Many hardcore Civ fans calls Civ 3 Civ 2.7 because it was only a minor upgrade, while removing some great parts of Civ1/2

i had the same impression of the game. some old mechanics were gone while some new ones were clunky and strange. i think i even played that hideous call to power game more than vanilla civ3. however after letting the game rot on a shelf for yrs, downloading the rise and rule mod made me pick it up again and give it another chance. i couldnt believe how much more epic the game became with that mod. thats part of the reason i have such lofty expectations for this game...if ppl could mod civ3 which never promised any moddability to make it 100 times better, then just think what they could do with a game that is already looking to be outstanding, with plenty of support for modding...my brain goes numb at the possibilities...

Civ4 will be definately better. Some of you mentioned that some games don't "feel" good when changed from 2D into 3D, but I think that's not the case: not only the 3D part of Civ4 seems to be so well defined, but you can play the game with a "2d" aspect if you wish it (there's a video showing this, and it looks exactly as Civ3 with better graphics).
Civ4 has a huge community, and one thing that I pretty much liked about the developing team is that they sent a copy of the game to every "community leader". And I must say that I read all previews that I could find, and none of them mentioned nasty bugs that made the game unplayable (like in Bw2).
The decision to make all "game internals" coded by Python (a free programing language) will allow the modders to change almost 100% of the game. Some people started messnig around with Python months ago, just to get a glimpse on what to expect when Civ4 is out.
Simply put, this is a game worth buying for sure. I can't think about a game with more replayability than the Civ series, not to mention the possibilities of mods.
I couldn't pre-order it because of lack of $$$, but since I will want to play it online (and I'm sure it will have some kind of serial k), I'm already saving some bucks to buy it later.
Just... can't.... wait...
I just can't understand why Civ4 has not that much hype as Quake4. I didn't even consider downloading Quake4 because the history is so dumb and it was obvious that it would be a clone of Doom3. But Civ4 is a long waited sequel, and it has so many improvements that I expected more people drooling about it.
Cheers.

hehe i love this game.
hey ghandi, how about we start a trading relationship, i ll build roads to your kingdom.
ok so here i am now at your territory with a whole army, know what ghandi, fuck you.
if you give me all your resources i will maybe abstain from crushing your domain.
thx, but ya know its alot more fun seeing you get served so prepare to get annihilated.
so many secret fantasies you can live through with this game, even conquer the world with the great empire of bosnia
the only kinda stupid thing are some of these victory conditions, like for example, cultural victory or "who s gonna fly to alpha centauri first" victory.
it seems kinda stupid to end a session like that, i dont know who would play with these rules.

definitely, becoming leader of the free world after establishment of the un isnt bad either,
but there s nothing like stretching your borders across the globe while leaving destruction
