No news about Early Access yet but Smedley said they have something big to announce next week.

Hopefully they'll announce Early Access date next week. Smedley said they wanted EA to be in May so not too many choices left.

from what ive seen so far the design of the map really needs some work, it seem to suffer from the "2006 flatness of the world", making it seem very unnatural. look whenever they show houses, FLAT SQUARE AREA THAT IS THE VILLAGE /check
dayz is a perfect example of a good map and how it looks natural

I keep seeing it improve though. The engine isn't clunky either. Lots of potential here I'm excited for this.

Sucks its an MMO. Personally, I'd like it more if it was SP, or have an option to play it in SP. That way you don't have to spend countless hours of gathering and crafting items or structures, only to have some jackass kill you and take everything you spent day(s) doing!

Why? it can be fun. Too many times they think survival only works in an MP environment.
What I think is the true problem with these MP games is that the incentive to work with each other always falls short. Most of the time they award being a dick instead of trying to stimulate big communities working together.
And I don't see them coming up with anything to combat that since for them it's not a problem while I think it holds back an entire genre.

Im not saying it wouldnt work SP, hell state of decay was awesome. But as I read his statement it goes to say he doesnt want any meddling. Not saying it couldnt be fun.. just reckon it gets boring real easy. Like an empty dayz server, at some point your gonna have your gear/base/whatever. then what |
You're telling me it wouldn't get frustrating or old really fast if someone kept jacking your shit after you spent hours gathering etc? Look at DayZ, I hear that goes on all the time and ppl camp the spawn points.
You're right though, just walking around by yourself would get boring. I'm just saying it would be nice to have 2 options. MMO and SP

the only reason these types of games are any good is because you can kill and loot other players, it is one of the reasons why the original ultima online was and is the best mmorpg.
Without the other players and looting this and dayz would be average at best.
All in my opinion of course

Ok so you never played DayZ and have no clue how that game actually works but are against an online game?
Playing DayZ releases so much adrenaline, it's unbelievable. 95% of the time everything will be quiet. You'll walk around, sometimes a zomb will approach and you'll have to run away and get rid of it. Then you go into a barn, grab some stuff and head to the next city. There you'll see the same stuff, running away from a zomb into a house, grabbing stuff, but as you are about to leave, you'll hear a shot. Another player saw that you made a zombie aggressive and lays ready in the woods to take you down. You leave through another exit, head into the woods, to the point where you suspect the attacker to be. You see him laying in the grass and shoot him and take his better gear. Your heart will pump like crazy.
Not all players are your enemies and while you can't trust any stranger, you will form alliances. Sometimes only for a short amount of time, or to take out a squad of killers that terrorize the same city. You might get betrayed or you can be surprised by the kindness of others.
And of course you can meetup with your friends and then play together

Except humans are opportunist bastards and will stab you in back
It's great game if you have a dedicated group to play with (Same as Rust, my experience in DayZ is quite limited as I've only played it few hours, but Rust I've spent 100h+ in).
In rust at least, the biggest problems are that there are zerg gangs, who try to do nothing but to ruin the gameplay for others. IE. 60 people running in a tight pack, dynamiting every bigger than a shack structure. So the game turns into a hide and seek (also fun... until you're hideyhole is found )

The one thing all these "survival" games have in common. They reward the bandits much more than the community builders.
They will all turn into KoS shootfests if the rewards aren't equalised.
Most people would not KoS if the shit hit the fan. They'd group up and try to survive together.
All of these so-called survival games it's way too easy to gather items and survive. There is no need or reason to kill anyone to get their stuff. It's just an excuse to PvP.
Now I don't want PvP removed from these types of games as the games need to have the potential and threat of PvP but PvP for the sake of PvP is just a lazy way by the devs to make the game more exciting for the ADHD kiddies.
I'd rather have the environment and external sources be a bigger threat than players to actually create a true survival game instead of open world CoD on steriods.
