And, to echo what you said to me earlier; what game has ran like shit during "alpha, top lel" and suddenly ran 100x better at launch?
that is not really the point. it was said enough time already.
the point with rsi is that you need to get a next gen 2015 gfx card to be able to play it on ultra. that was stated countless of time. is not that alpha sucks in terms in performance, is that we dont have yet accessible hardware to run in on. they they to build a game for the next gen hardware. and again, that was stated from begining.
i played fine on 760 gtx with medium details in mp.
happy ? not really. but i know why.

I appologize in advance sabin, I really dont want to antagonize you or come off as to much a fanboy ( admittedly I do wear rose tinted glasses but I am realist enough to have doubts that they will get it done as envisioned )
Isnt making games that aim to graphically impress people allways done with aiming for the hardware thats available at launch? It takes like 4 years ( best average guess ) to make it, wouldnt it be weird not to go for hardware thats available at release?

Bollocks.
And why does everyone keep throwing up "Ultra, lolz!" as some kind of defence? I never once mentioned Ultra, nor anything like it, I'd be "satisfied" being able to play on "medium" - where I can't even play it on LOWEST, but hey... "Ultra" And yes, it most certainly IS the point, whenever the subject of performance comes up - the same few trolls bleat about "pre-alpha" as if to say "beta/final will run better", I'd like to see some evidence where this has occurred. System requirements often INCREASE rather than DECREASE as development goes on. |
usually alpha in your content means shit game, shit gfx, shit optimization, and fanboys who yells "look, it will run a alot better at launch".
swtor/wildstar/terra and so.
from my pov rsi is not in that hole.
rsi run like shit because you need serious hardware to run it flawless.
swtor/wildstar/terra/gw2 in beginning (no ideea how is now) and others runs like shit on godlike systems (which will run rsi on ultra with high fps), without any reason.
that is the difference from my pov.

BF3 and BF4?
Former did low 40s on my 6950, release locked at 60. Latter did upper 40s, lower 50s in beta, 70 at release. Since then it fluctuated a little in both cases (although during BF3 one of Nvidia's drivers broke the game quite badly...wait, sorry, I'm sure I was running an AMD driver for my 680!), but no more than 2-3 FPS.
So it does happen
Sorry Sabsab, just had to do this because DICE have managed to do it twice in very recent history. Difference is of course that it's 100% _their_ engine, and written for a large part by Andersson, who is one of the best in his field so...myeh
Not saying this one is going to see similar improvements, in fact I doubt it. But, surely this one will get back to the performance it had pre-MP patch (my FPS was cut in half) and surely SLI will be put in at *some point*.

Before I say anything else, let's me get this out of the way - I absolutely want this game to succeed on everything it promised, I'd like nothing more. I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard.
Having said that, I'm extremely surprised at the amount of people (and you guys of all people!) that are so quick to embrace and defend the "It's in ALPHA (beta, substitute whatever "state" you want) excuse. That's an extremely slippery slope to stand on, and if history has shown us anything, quite a deadly one.
If people keep encouraging this kind of mindset (as seems to be the norm now'a'days') all they're doing is fucking crippling the future of games they supposedly love (whether they know it or not). Any optimizations they would have bothered to make to this "release" would have gone on to make the game that much better upon launch.
Releasing something meant to showcase progress, deeming it playable, then having it run like shit for the majority of people and bellowing the excuse "it's OK, it'll be OK in three years time on hardware that doesn't exist yet that even WE, the DEVELOPERS, can't be sure of the specs of) is at best disrespectful to the very people that are feeding them over the next 2-3 years, and at worst akin to outright lunacy.
They have the resources.
They have the expertise.
Optimize it - make it playable for people today. Otherwise rescind its release in its current state, and release a screenshot pack that people can run in slideshow mode in Windows Photo Viewer - they'd be better off than this fucking cock-tease run around they're giving everyone right now.
For shame. Get your heads out of your asses guys. Hold them accountable to SOME standard, or come two years from now you're going to be in for a very unpleasant surprise.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

+1
It's almost as if they're making the game to run on the hardware THEY have - after all, they have their millions now - why would they NEED to go through the laborious task of making it run on lesser hardware? Roberts often said he dreamed about making the game HE wants to make - and thats exactly what he's doing.
TBH I don't even know WHAT specs are needed to run this at a good 60fps in MP (or even SP skirmish) at ANY detail level. My particular specs are what I would consider to be mid-high end, not the highest of course, but certainly up there, and I can run BF4 with Mantle ( which SC will support apparently), at a fixed 60fps on Ultra.
It seems that they're going with the 'people will upgrade by then' mentality - which I don't think works any more - graphic and CPU performances are decreasing in size every year; Moore's Law is becoming outdated; the 2010 update to the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors predicted that growth will slow at the end of 2013, when transistor counts and densities are to double only every three years. [citation: Wiki ], and thus stuff written 'for the future' is less likely to be runnable on cheaper hardware than it was 5 years ago.

Well she was just uninformed. It is the first part of the german anthem, BUT the german populace agreed to skip the first and second and start with the third. So officially it is not sung this way anymore and nobody in germany would do so, if he doesn't want to provoke.
If you just look it up on the interwebs and are from another country, you can easily miss those related notions

It is sad tho that Germany can't have a little bit of Nationalism without being condemned, while other nations are doing it on a daily basis. To me the phrase is the same as someone saying their country is the best in the world
I do wonder at times how long they have to drag that past with them (Mind you... I'm not saying one should forget its past ).
Anywho, not really about Star Citizen but my hype is low at the moment.

Dunno what you mean, the game is 100% perfectly playable in it's current state* - no need to mess with the coding now, just add features as demanded by the SC Forum groupies.
* assuming you are using Chris Roberts' PC.

You're probably not far off, to be honest. Derek Smart and Peter Molyneux had a baby and Chris Roberts is his name;

I'm pretty sure by the time the game is finished...I don't know how much the Old Republic budget was, but we'll probably be up there. Some people say it was 400 or 500 million, and who knows how much of that was marketing. We won't be up there, but I definitely think that we'll be, by the time the game is finished, we'll be at the 80, 90, or 100 million dollar range of funding, and most of it will be all for the game. I mean, what I sort of feel is that all of the prerelease funding is saying how much you can put into the game and content up front, and post-release, hopefully we can make enough money to support the servers and additional content.

Do you see a finish line for the development of Star Citizen?
No I don't. It's like something like World of Warcraft or EVE Online. It's an ongoing thing. If you look at EVE right now compared to what it was when it came out, it was totally different. So what my view is: we get the game out and then hopefully we have a lot of people that like it, and it's doing well, and we're making money, and we're just using the money to add content or add features. To me it's like an ever-evolving game. Maybe at one point it will have every feature, but there's a lot of other things that I'd like to see in it, and it'll take some more money and time. |
Quote: |
Would you be happy working on Star Citizen for the rest of your professional career?
One that lasts a long time, I hope! For me, Star Citizen is not like a two- or three-year project; it's like a 10-year project. So I'm hoping that I get the game out with the full persistent universe and people like it enough that it becomes successful, and that I have years after that to build and flesh out the universe more.
We've got a whole plan where different locations will grow over time. As they expand, they have more business. You'll go back down, you'll see something grow from a small pod into a small city, and then an even bigger city, and then a metropolis. So that's not going to happen day one. That's going to happen over years of game playing. We're building the systems to allow us to have that so different planets and star systems will expand and contract based on what's happening in the universe and the economy. I want to see some of that where it's player influenced, which I think could be really kind of cool. EVE I guess kind of does that, but I want it to be more tactile. I think it would make a difference if the last time you went down to a planet, it was a barren colony, and now it's got three skyscrapers and a bustling market and stuff like that.
|
I'm so sick of this damned project, the more I hear about it the more depressed and irritated it makes me. This grandiose money-sucking project that only the tiniest percentile can actually run even the most basic of the existing content. They have this massive 10+ year plan about cities growing and businesses expanding. It's just a pipedream, an expensive, never-ending pipe dream whose doors only open to those with limitless funds.
