So I reinstalled Marvel Heroes two days ago and played for a few hours. Its a strange feeling when you've been away from an addiction and you've gotten some perspective on it. On one hand I felt such relief when not playing, but now afterwards I can sense that urge, that tension thats being built up inside of me until I can sit at my computer and play.

That feeling, that sense of I dont give a fuck about anyone or anything else, just give me my game is really scary. Its like all fibers of my body, mind everything is just screaming for me to sit and play. So Im thinking of removing the game again and Im trying to convince myself that I need a break from it, call it vacation or whatever but alittle time to think and not feel its grasp on me.

I honestly don't get how you people can put so much time into gaming, where the fuck do you find so many enjoyable games? there are probably no more than 3 or 4 games per year that can totally take me in and at worst I can finish them in a few days. usually I install games and leave the icons in the desktop until they gather dust and I see spider webs connecting them. I play almost exclusively some kind of online games. Not really into mmos but online arpgs like PoE and above mentioned MH. I enjoy the grind to some extent eventhough I cant be arsed to grind for the sake of grinding but I like coming up with projects that I have to complete, in MHs case its all about completely gearing some of my favorite heroes with legendariers, blessings etc
To each his own, if you get tired of games after a few days, then in a way you should consider yourself lucky, though I cant imagine how bored I'd be if I constantly didnt have something to play and something to keep my mind away from the more disturbing aspects of adult life.

same here. I've played so much in my life that I play games as they come because i've played all games on all platforms i was interested in.

But you have to take into account that there are games that you can play for 1000 hours (marvel heroes for example) and these are probably the main sources of addiction. Probably because all the other games are 8-20 hours long on average.

Unless we're talking some past traumatic event or something huge that's unresolved, things like this will depend on your own response, and "being happy" or even somewhat excited is essentially something you have to work on.

You see, as young people - we're much easier to impress and we're much more likely to get excited, as we've seen almost nothing at all.

If you're the sort of person inclined to dwell on matters and reflect on whatever you're doing, chances are you'll find yourself in a position of having "figured it out", which will make most things seem boring or predictable.

This is where our limitations as human beings can do us a huge favor, because we can't figure out everything - and we tend to forget other ways to be excited if we've focused on a single way for too long.

So, if you've been focusing on gaming for a long time - you will have dismissed other ways to have fun and you can't get excited by those things until you go do them.

Sometimes, you have to put in a major effort to go do something else - but you'll find yourself surprised by the level of enjoyment, and you can find nuances of almost any way to pass the time - that you couldn't possibly predict.

It's like playing a game where you think you know exactly what it has to offer, but if you push on - you can sometimes be surprised by some little feature or something you just didn't see coming.

You have to allow for the possibility of surprise - and you have to suck it up and accept that great things won't come knocking on your door like they used to.

Being happy takes effort for some of us - and it can mean doing some work, unfortunately. Physical activity can be great and, in general, just doing a variety of things and talking to a variety of people can take you out of most depressed states.

I don't do MMO's because they keep asking for money, and paying for something that I can't smoke or eat or pour into my car sounds stupid to me. (yes paying for smokes/lung cancer is stupid too, we all have our vices)

As for adult life, I think the thing that takes my mind off of its disturbing aspects is the variety of pussy the globe has to offer since I don't tie myself to one and then cannabis. And the fact that my life is always at risk of death and collapse takes my perspective on it in an area where sinking years into a game sounds like the biggest waste I could ever do.

Not to be rude, but the way you're describing your life makes F2P MMOs seem like a sure route to happiness.

This is coming from someone who's sick to death of even the best MMOs.

Depends on what kind of person you are, if you're a wimp you're bound to not venture too much into all kinds of aspects of life and seek happiness in a perfect virtual setting.
I get off on crossing lines and new experiences in life, all within the boundaries of calculated risk obviously. not a YOLO retard type. also learning a shit ton about the globe and its mechanics. there's a lot to enjoy in life other than games, which puts them in a "only if absolutely trapped and bored" in my list.

But you can be damn sure I'll fucking disappear when GTA V comes out.

So, you're a wimp if you're not desperate to escape from yourself with drugs and hollow relationships?

Ok, I guess that's one way to look at it.

Personally, I think courage is about facing your fears - but that's me.

cannabis isn't a drug it's a tool for self reflection Cool Face

And about facing your fears, my fears aren't internal they're external and if I face them they'll straight out drop me dead.

Sure it is Wink

Every single human being on the planet has internal fears - and there's no such thing as external fears.

We're all cowards in one way or the other, which is why calling people wimps because you don't share their interests is a bit silly.

As for myself, I'm not particularly brave overall.

But I made a choice early in life not to live a lie and to always face the truth if at all possible. This has been very hard - but I wouldn't want it any other way.

But I'm still a coward in other ways, and I'm as much a work-in-progress as the average Joe.

You sound like someone on the run.

That's not meant as an insult, more as an empathic response - based on what little you can tell through the screen.

Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Yeah, I think addiction used in this context is a matter of perspective; as is whether it's a waste of time or not.

I agree 'every human being has internal fears'. Life is a bit of a struggle.

I think in this case it is actual addiction rather than doing what you enjoy. Be careful Acer and it doesn't help to play those kind of games that are designed to keep people playing and stimulating to buy stuff.

There is nothing wrong with gaming a lot, but there is when you are feeling the way you do about it.

If there is something you don't like in your life try to change it instead of numbing yourself. Be it job, living conditions, relationship or whatever.

+1

i could play 10-12 hours a day a couple of years ago, but when I went to out or went to my grandparents for 2 weeks to countryside i didn't miss it or even thought about playing.

I guess that's what I call "healthy addiction".

So I deleted Marvel Heroes but got bored after a few days and installed Path of Exile.

Its such a vicious cycle, hopping from game to game and coming back to an old addiction. I have since then however removed PoE aswell, I just got fed up feeling like crap after having played a whole afternoon, evening after work, not going to the gym or anything.

I kinda felt disgusted by myself and felt I needed to stop playing for a while so hopefully I'll be able to stay away from all gaming for a while, studying to renew my ccna and then onto the ccnp cert exams.

Of course you can, you just don't. But you're a human being - and we're all weak.

Eventually, you'll focus on what's important if it's really important. Hating yourself for being human is not going to change much.

The only thing that will change anything is.... changing something.
