Yeah, but with proper ear protection (the cheapest and best protection are uvex ear protectors) drums sound much better if the room is not sound dampened with wood and foam panels or such. And of course after playing your years "feel" much better.
I never play without ear protection anymore. Also Shure SE215 make it an awesome experience to play along with music in your ears with added ear protection and sound dampening. Also you can use them with a metronome obviously.
