There is nothing wrong with scyfy doing a serialized show based on a gorgeous Gillian fairy tale we all grew up loving. What is wrong is the people who work at scyfy are imbeciles who can't do a single thing right. It's like they all went to lindelols school of production. Once in a blue moon scyfy brings in something nice. A strong idea poorly executed. And they're ok with it. They shouldn't be. But they are. Idiots who watch scyfy because of the lols and bad production are to blame. Giving them ratings and advertising money. Idiots. Also tv actors... Ffs... How many times am I going to see the same actor in 5 different shows in the same year?!

Planet of the Apes 2 - 6.5/1 - This movie was a bit of a disppointment for me. First of all, I really liked the first movie. It was a great coming of age story (or whatever you want to call it) and I thought they handled Caesar's maturation very well. This movie however is pretty much a cliche Hollywood action movie. It has great CGI, the apes are awesome and the action is good, but the movie itself is so full of cliches and so simplistic. You know the second how a character will act throughout the movie when he enters a scene. All characters are cardboard cutouts, it didn't have one second of surprise. Dialogues are one cliche after another, a couple of facepalm moments. The drama moments are taken out of a "how to write a script for dummies" book. I won't go into detail to avoid spoilers.

Overall a good action movie with a very, very, very basic script. I'm willing to bet anyone here with a small bit of imagination could've written this basic story.

I know it was panned by critics and that it was a financial failure, but I still like it. Nowhere nearly as good as the book of course, but maybe because I like the original so much helps me to excuse the obvious problems with the movie.

As for the story itself, it's kinda the same base premise of Solaris (the book of course, not any of the movies (which I'm yet to bring myself to watch)) with American style of writing and a bit of time travel thrown in for good measure. Wish there was a director's cut for this. There lots of stuff that were handled badly compared to the original that could be fixed.

Ghost in the Shell 2

To me it's the lesser of the two. Except for visuals obviously. Lots pretentious, self serving quoting of famous people, somewhat uninteresting plot, little to no character development, etc. But holy fuck it's a gorgeous looking flick. The contrast between cgi and hand drawn stuff is glaring, but that WH40k-esque cathedral is always a high point when I watch this. It's only there to look pretty and it serves no real purpose, but damn it's awesome. Smile

The only part when it got an emotional response out of me (apart from the look of the film) was at the end when Motoko disconnects and Batou just watches the doll collapse. That was a bit sad.

Expendables 3

Antonio banderas was the BEST thing in this, I loved him, he was great, freakin hilarious

Actually, choppa' jokes a side, I really enjoyed the humor in this, I thought they managed to land 90% of the jokes and one liners really well... Little nods to Bruce being booted out, snipes prison dealy, fords entry into the film and the like....

I'd rate it a 6/10

Pretty good movie, that was missing the balls it needed (and the money to get better effects and hire better actors to play the newbies)... It could have been epic, but instead was simply "enjoyable" with a fantastic start, mediocre middle, and some great mixed with weak action for the last third.... favourite bit in the last battle was seeing banderas and mole lady have their moment to shine... That was fucking epic!

The Expendables 3 - 5.5/10

It's watered down, sure, but there are quite a few nice stunts, enjoyable hand to hand combat and a few funny lines.

Jack Reacher - 7/10

I've watched it 4 times now, it's an enjoyable action-thriller with some well crafted action scenes, check it out if you haven't.

Heat - 9/10

Michael Mann. Me Gusta

The Pacific - 6.5/10

Didn't like it as much as Band of Brothers.

Actually, thats something I much to my own suprise dont agree with you on. Both Död Snö 1 and 2 are tributes to old splatters and ZS fits quite well in. Just as it would have fit in Bad Taste or Braindead.

Död Snö 2 - 8/10 from me.

Below

This is an interesting one. Horror movie set on board a WW2 US submarine. And I like it. It's just clicking together for me.

First, the setting. WW2 submarine. I fucking love WW2 submarines. Lots of believable jargon about the working of the boat, some of which I encountered during my Silent Hunter 4 career (and one of the lines from the movie was actually used in one of the big mods for the game Smile ). So yeah. Even if the horror was sub par, the location alone would be enough to make me love it. Smile

Now, the actual scariness. It's sort of working. There are two jump scares in total. I can forgive it. What I really liked was the subtle way the ghost was portrayed. Never shown to be a tangible presence. Always just getting glimpses from the corner of the characters' eyes, just when the light flickers out and their eyes didn't adjust to the dark yet (my favorite scene btw), or mistaking shapes for a face in semi-darkness.

It's kinda like the other early '00s horror flicks, but not as bombastic and over the top as the others.

Plus there are a few Band of Brothers actors in it (Nixon and Martin are the most obvious but there's at least one more). So that's a plus in my book. Also Galifianakis.

Not a horror fan, but this easily earned a 7/10 from me.

Would have been a 4/10 but I... really liked the chick.
Also it could have done without the slow-mo actioney bullshit just fine in order to tell the story that they wanted to tell.
