I am installing 8.1 it right now.

http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/5160-tutorial-how-make-windows-8-understand-you-administrator.html
There's the "admin approval" mode as with Windows 8 if you really want UAC minimized but as with reducing UAC it is a security risk plus this will break all apps including the Windows Store one although I've never used them.
For Metro I just leave it be unless you really need a standard start menu, you can set the taskbar properties to boot straight to desktop so you only see that main screen when you press the Windows key or similar although by now there's probably several alternatives to a real start menu. (Which should be added with 8.1 update 3, update 2 being expected to begin beta in August or when it was and then update 3 in early 2015 followed by Windows 9 later that year I think.)

I had no issues with wic on win 8.1. I did not need to det any compatibility it just worked.
As for windows 8 in general, I've got 3 PCs all with it on them, I wouldn't go back to win 7, win 8 just performs a lot better and you cannot beat the load time. I've never had an issue running anything on it and the only downside of vanilla win 8 is the missing start menu which you van work around.
Personally I think the people that pay out on it haven't even tried it, it wad the same for vista, had a bad start but was great after a few patches, by the end it was the same as win 7 but people still paid out on it

THIS
That's the only thing i hate in a serious way about 8/8.1...You're NOT the REAL ADMIN of your system like Windows 7 did after formatting...You're just an USER...And if you try to disable UAC it won't work out at all, as you're still being asked for this and that (For example, editing the hosts file to troll Photoshop's activation system among other things by using a patch or host file's line edition..If you try saving it it'd tell you that you don't have Admin rights, "FUCK YOU,USER!"..)
Yes i know you can right click on notepad and Run as Admin but...it shouldn't be like that
I bet they're going to repeat that in Windows 9 to troll even more...
What else is annoying on 8/8.1?

The only thing i tought in the Windows folder are the Hosts file (Adobe's stuff) and System32 for the DLL insertion (games/apps requires some that are NOT there)
After that, nothing else...i could write a list of things that needs to be fixed or done in a new update or W9 ....like...Make it entirely exactly like Windows 7 (admin after format (no bullshit with the user and hidden admin account), though better on everything, start menu like W7 but improved YET KEEPING THE OLD MENU STYLE,etc)

btw, about that adminintrator user, is not disabled in win 7 aswell ? after install you are not really logged in the "ADMINISTRATOR" account.
so in win 7 aswell you need to run stuff with "run as administrator". (i know that to have a admin cmd prompt i need to press ctrl shift enter in run dialog.).

With Windows 7 UAC will block access to certain things (Stuff you downloaded but haven't gone into properties and unblocked, programs trying to start without your approval or a application trying to save to a restricted area of the OS such as the ProgramData folder.) and you might need to run the program with administrative rights to allow it access and make it work 100% correctly, however with Windows 8 there's also the "Admin approval mode." on top of that. (Can't enter certain folders on the HDD, can't alter certain files and some other things, mostly to protect the user from harmful code and such and also to prevent them from doing something stupid but it can get very annoying with MS having some security program and routines to "babysit" you but for the average PC user this probably helps out a lot against malware and the like.)

because afaik you are not supposed to have full access to some files not even with the administrator user.
if i remember right that was a leftover from a security risk, internet explorer had admin rights even if was launched from a power user account and visiting some malicious sites could install backdoors on the sistem, so the solution was to not allow full access to sensible file/services/registers not even to an administrator user.
i may be mistaking ofcourse. but seeing some java/flash exploits ....

i think you are mistaken. I have also done this since the beginning and have not noticed or been subject to anything wrong. It should be mentioned though, I dont run shit like IE or Smartscreen etc.

Hey guys, how about Rockstar's MANHUNT?
I still can't get it to run on Windows 8.1 x64, not even with compatibility mode.
Any suggestions? I'm REALLY DYING to kill some scumbags!!

That exe should make the game compatible with Windows 7 and newer.

My problem with Win 8/8.1 is some focusing issue where I'll be playing any game and something in the background takes the focus and minimizes the game. Happens like every 20-30 minutes and it's pretty damn annoying. Not sure what app/process is doing it but I'm guessing it's probably something with Office 2013 or Skydrive as this happens on my laptop too and other than the OS, those two apps are running on it as well.
