Is Secret World that good? You can buy it really cheap now and there are no monthly costs.

I quite enjoyed Rift a year back when it went free to play. Didn't have to feel so committed to it and just play at my own pace. I'm hoping Anarchy Online will follow the same path and fully unlock itself, really enjoyed AO even after the Shadowlands expansion.

WoW used to be great, but unfortunately now it's a game that shoves rewards down uncommitted players throats, but wasn't that what you were after? Laughing

Nice list. I thought about giving wildstar another chance... little bit too much comic for my taste but i guess the game itself is quite good. Didnt expect The secret world to be that popular... have to check it out.

No, they're all shite, with no sense of imagination, or indeed gameplay. anything free-to-play is pointless nby default as it costs more money than sense to be even remotely playable.

GW2 is ALOMST good, but suffers with the same problem that almost all MMO games suffer with - totally non-skill based combat; if you can click a button you will win, unless your gear isn't quite high enough, then you'll lose.

All MMO's are primarily based on gear, as this is the only thing that you can really aim for.
So much bullshit. Have you played the game at all ? In pvp there is no gear and its 100% skill based.
For wvw you can gear up your character in less than 1 week and from there on its only your "skill" (read game knowledge) that matters.
Also while some classes are more or less straight forward (like the warrior, ranger, thief) you got some fairly complicated combo based ones like the engineer or the elementalist. There's a class for every playstyle.
Pve gets easy fast (mainly because people complained that dungeons are too hard and so the devs made them super easy -.-) but when it does you can start solo-ing dungeons for the challenge (and even make some gold that way as you can sell the empty slots when you reach the endboss) or if soloing is not your thing there's also fractals where you can choose the difficulty and at maximum difficulty they arent that easy.
It got its flaws but its still the best mmo out there (edit: except wildstar, havent played that one much so cant comment)

Personally i only played it for some days. It's very story driven and has a complex skill system. Don't know why i stopped playing it. But i guess because better games got released Smile

Secret world is decent, I loved the setting I didn't like the combat system. Just felt a bit mediocre after a bit.

Keep in mind the scores at MMORPG are of the same value as IMDB

Why is EVE on that list? Technically it's still sub-based.

It's a list for all released MMO's Wink

Well, I stopped reading after "Best free MMO list...". Apparently only the list is free, not the games on it. Razz

The best thing about Secret World IMO is that there is a TON of solo content.

The engine is very nice, looks great, tons of dx11 effects.

The gear/stats were too simplistic for me.

The Secret World's modern setting can be interesting, but its combat is absolutely awful with bad animations and wooden character movement. Plus the menu and inventory design looks so cheap that it feels like you're playing some kind of lame browser game. Tried it two times to make it sure if it was really that bad and yes it was...

Also tried to get into GW2, but its PvE is so ridiculously easy without any challenge at all that it's simply impossible to not get bored. It also has one of the most repetitive and lamest skill systems I've seen. The graphics and character models look fine, but other than that - a complete waste of time.

If you want challenge, especially when doing raids and PvP, try Lineage 2. I truly think it's one of the best MMO's out there, but unfortunately it's extremely underrated. Amazing selection of races and classes, a huge world to explore, great presentation, lots of skills, decent armor and weapon crafting - still one of the best examples of hardcore MMORPG's.

Oh, this reminds me of one of the best features of Secret World.....

It has a fucking built in web browser, so no need to alt tab if you only have one monitor.

It's great!

WoW if you don't mind paying.
Rift if you want to play free.

Still playing Rift myself atm, there's plenty to do to keep you busy.

Secret World has the best quests from all the MMORPGs I'd played. But yeah combat can get clunky.

No update on that AO stuff of late? I remember it mentioned a few times and some images shown but then it was meant to be imminent and yet still nothing.

That engine change for AO is at least 5 years old news.
