Recently some friends that went to Germany, complained that after Friday night they can no longer buy stuff till Monday morning.

So I live in a perfect place, where most shops work on weekends, and some are even 24h.

It's 2AM on a Saturday and I have the munchies, but the fridge is empty? No problem! Hop in the car and into the nearest 24h non-stop supermarket Very Happy

The only difference the current time of the day is how far I have to go to buy the thing I need - 5m walk to 10min with the car.

Do you have 24h open shops?

shops are open on weekends here, except on sundays.

shops are usually open until 8 pm but most shops are open until 10 pm. On Sundays you can only buy stuff at the gas station if needed.

supermarkets here in potsdam are open from monday till saturday from 6am to 10/11 pm.
only day closed is sunday but if i really need anything badly i could drive to berlin.
would be 25mins with the train and then go to the 24/7 supermarket which is opened everyday but also expensive.
in berlin there are also "späti's or spätkauf's" where u can buy stuff until in the night. it's like buying on the gas station but with better prices. Smile
not that much to choose from but it's ok if u need a beer/something else to drink, some noodles or pet food.

but mostly if i forgot to buy something for sunday which is not that often i just go to mcdonalds or order some pizza...

Yes, but they are expensive as hell. The open for 24h shops, that is.
Supermarkets are open as usual on the weekends.

Supermarkets in Norway are generally closed on sundays, with some exceptions. In December most stores are open all days of the week. Some of them are also open all days of the week in the summertime because of tourists. Apart from that we got sunday stores with the chain name... they are smaller (a little bigger than gas stations) and a little more expensive.

In Denmark on the other hand there are quite a few stores that keep open every day. But just like the thread I made some time back, I don't like the opening hours in a lot of european countries. In Norway id say 8-22/23 is most common. In Tønsberg we have a store that is open 6-24, witch is very common in larger cities.

I was shocked when I the first time I came to Roskilde at 20:15 and found 3 supermarkets who all had closed. had to buy food at a gas station :/

what's this about slavery? people working in 24h stores don't actually work 24h every day. Laughing

don't see what's the problem with 24h stores, they just have more workers doing more shifts. should be illegal for food stores not to work on sundays Wink

Most shops here are open Sundays and you must have at least a few places in every town open 24/7. A lot of supermarkets are 24/7 and Tesco's sell all sorts of things, from food to electronics. We are starting to get a fair few shops open xmas day too.

Shops stay closed even when they're supposed to be open here, let alone during weekends Sad Laughing
If by any chance it's Friday and you've forgotten to buy something, you receive the virtual deal with it ticket xD

Things are generally different in the big cities, though, where giant supermarkets and outlets stay open more often.

Tesco is open 24h here, most gas stations as well, so if you just want a snack or some basic food you don't have to drive to Tesco, but to your nearest gas station.

Meh, even the Tesco brands vary from product to product. Chips are rubbish, but SunGrown juices are actually pretty good quality. Besides, they also buy stuff from local producers (...at bargain prices, but hey), so calling it "british" is a bit of a stretch.

Anyway, in Poland most shops are open on sundays for at least 8 hours, usually more. By law they're ordered to close only during state/religious holidays, unless the actual owner is behind the counter (so mostly small local shops are exempt).
