I have to be honest, this looks so much more impressive than Star Citizen. Progress is much further, all set targets have been met, it looks brilliant, the performance seems good for people... I bet on the wrong horse, it seems.

I am considering buying this. I see people having fun with Oculus.

Well they did have the engine ready to go, that saved them a lot of time. The game's designs were also done long ago, the Kickstarter just started the actual asset production (before anyone even bothers: not my words, FD's own words). The two were just at very different stages when the Kickstarters happened, I don't know why people ever expected them to have identical development paths. I don't think you bet on the wrong horse at all, I personally still don't think there's any comparison to make between the two other than the general description "space game". I "bet" on SC too, simply because this showed 0 inspiration at the time. I have since picked this up obviously, but I still don't regret not backing it.

I am on the fence to grab a DK1 (there's a guy selling one for 70 EUR here, what a dummy Razz), primarily for this. I still don't want to shell out the 400 EUR for a DK2, because I really want the consumer version and selling the DK2 off then isn't going to be worth it Sad

Ill wait for the final version in that case...who knows - perhaps O.R retail is out by then too!

DK1 for this game is not worth it. Text if very difficult to read.

I have been very unimpressed with SC since backing it. Recent delay after delay, and terrible performance in small maps (CryEngine 3, yay) just makes me not very optimist regarding the future.

I also hate the economic model the Roberts assholes have chosen. It's clear where their heart really is.

That's the model they chose. Final game will have the price of a normal game, while the earlier you buy into the game, the more you pay. Full game on preorder is 50$.

Yeah I know how it works - its been the same with Wastelands and Planetary Annihilation. Smile

But for me its not resonable to pay that price now when I can wait until its release and buy it for a normal price Smile

Yeah that's my main reason overall, but if I'm perfectly honest, I'm okay with spending 70 EUR on a funky gadget that may not deliver 100%. More so than spending 400+ EUR (shipping + VAT, with the DK1 practically every Rift was taxed) on something that'll still not be perfect and I will replace once the consumer version is out. If I had any plans to develop for it, it wouldn't bother me but in this case I'm a consumer. Same reason I didn't get the DK1 in the first place.

Yeah well, that's the general consensus. I dislike the current state of it as much as anyone, but I'm just not worrying yet. We knew it would be a long road and we knew it was extremely ambitious so I'd rather cast my judgement once it's actually getting near something that resembles a real game. Do keep in mind that a lot of things they want to do will come to ED too - as expansions. Planetary landings will come later for example. Boarding they haven't been clear about -aside from the fact that it's "on the list"- but I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes an expansion too. SC is often called a cash grab, but so is ED.

See above, "full" game is relative. To buy the "full" game + beta right now, you need to buy the lifetime pass too. A lot of people will hate me for saying it, but that is the truth. 40 EUR doesn't get you all of ED. 60 EUR doesn't either. You need to spend at least 80 to get it all (Game + Pass), 100 if you want the beta too.

There is nothing to hate, it's true. I don't like the "expansion" either. But SC looks much more of a cash whoring, especially considering the large amount of "funding" they have received.

I doubt FD is far behind in terms of funding. They have got private investors too and with the prices of Premium Beta and such, they've made a lot more than the $2m from KS. They're just not as vocal and public about it. Just think about it for a minute; if 50000 people bought Premium Beta, that's 50000 * 120 EUR (sorry, not sure about dollar price) = €6m or ~$8m just the same. I'm pretty sure there's been more than 50000 people buying in late. And that's not counting the private funding they received, I think one of the investors was good for 12 million pounds - that's $20m.

CIG might have almost $49m and brag about it, I doubt FD are very far behind. Only difference is where the money came from and how public they are about what they have.

Same goes for development time, while FD have got stuff on the table right now, by the time they're done it'll be 2016 just the same.

Yeah, for now it's just server-side and requires authentication even for the newly released "online singleplayer" mode. You'll have to wait for an offline version to be released by Frontier.

how can feedback be provided quickly and efficiently (except manual ONLINE forms) if it stays offline

the feedback provided from online crash reports etc is invaluable for testing

thats why
