@vurt: first install the 0.4 runtime and install the new firmware to your dk2. Then, some games work fine with extended desktop mode (you need to make the rift the primary display, set it to 1920x1080 landscape, then launch the launcher most demos have and run in fullscreen at 1920x1080, took me a while to figure out as well.) for some others (like the totoro one) you need to stop wscript.exe and the OVRsomethingService in Task Manager, only then tracking will work, don't ask me why.
I can't seem to get extended desktop mode to work, are you sure you mean 1920x1080 and not the Rift resolution (whatever it is again), because 1920x1080 is not available. Setting it to primary doesnt seem possible either, it's greyed out.
What should i set the display to? Mirror i guess because otherwise the Rift doesnt seem to even turn on in this mode. Though when using mirror the Hz will change to 120 for some reason, i doubt the rift is really capable of that so the image gets messed up.
Any help would be great
First you have to enable Extended Mode in the Tray App under Rift Display Mode. Then the rift shows up like a monitor in vertical view, then you set it to 1920x1080 landscape mode. And then shortly before you launch your game you set it as the primary display and need to fiddle with the window in the rift view. I expect this process will become less fiddly with increasing adaption of direct-HMD-access rift mode.
This game looks so great with the rift. It's easy to get the feeling you're really inside the cockpit
I am still messing with my 3 display setup, no joy for now ...
With ED I got the screen upside down and no head tracking.
I am just back from a week on duty (with 17h per day), so too tired to mess with workarounds for today.
I will try again tomorrow, I guess.

@Xenthalon thanks! it's messy as hell to set it up because you can't see propely in the rift when you do that, is it like that for you as well? It's like you get double vision or something. But i somehow manged to start Radial-G and it looks really stunning, best i've seen so far. It's just.. wow
Just using the rift as the only monitor doesnt seem to work, the picture is on its side and not fully visible....
Downloading the SDK to see if that helps, hopefully.
Lol. Downloading the SDK is the first thing you should've done. The next being updating the DK2 firmware. Also, did you even set up your IPD profile? This is definitely one of the reasons Oculus made it clear that consumers should not buy this. I dread the thought of all the little kids that get one, realize there are only like 5 compatible demos, don't even adjust their IPD, instantly get headaches, and wonder why VR sucks so bad.
Also, I saw in another post you asked if you should mirror your display. You should never mirror as it creates additional latency. I'd advise anybody who bought a DK2 who didn't have to pleasure of struggling with DK1 to check out the Oculus subreddit. Every question ever asked about DK1 or DK2 has been answered many times. It's by far the best resource for DK2 setup, and compatible demos (those supporting the latest SDK are pretty thin.).
Edit: On a side note, just picked this up on my lunch break!
Afaik it's the Runtime you need since they contain the drivers, not the SDK package..
It's ~40 degrees celsius in my apartment so i'm more lazy than usual atm
Oculus subreddit, i'll take a look, thanks. And you're right i've not touched the IPD yet i suck.
Definitely measure and set up your IPD before doing anything else. An even slightly off IPD can completely ruin the experience and cause eye strain, discomfort, and headaches. Not only that, it'll completely throw the scale off. The world will either feel too big or too small. In the Oculus config utility just make yourself a profile, set your gender, height, cup size (not those cups, ha), eye relief distance (the coin adjusters on the side), and use the built in utility to measure your IPD.
The directions for the IPD measurement are pretty easy to follow, but basically it'll show a green line. Stare at the line and use the mouse wheel to move it to the outer edge. While staring DIRECTLY at the line (this is important as it completely changes when it's in your peripheral vision), stop it right as it's at the edge of your vision, where you can just barely see a sliver of it. You'll repeat the process again for the inner edge, and then do it all over again for your right eye. This will give you a surprisingly accurate measurement. Remember, if you ever let anybody else try your Rift, do the exact same thing for them before letting them use it, unless you really hate them. You can save multiple profiles so you'll only need to do it once per person. Whichever profile is selected will be the default settings for every Rift demo you load up. Hope this helps!
Edit: Also, I forgot to mention, if DK2 is like DK1, you'll need to set your eye relief (coin adjusters) all the way out when measuring IPD. With the lenses as far from your eyes as they can go.

I would avoid wearing rift with 40C... the foam would get soaked pretty fast. And lenses would get foggy. wait for the night !
And yeah - lucky motherfuckers I envy YOu! Why on earth i've ordered only on may 10th ?

If you don't already frequent the Oculus subreddit, here's the one link you'll need for all DK2 questions about setup, issues, game compatibility, etc. It'll be updated multiple times a day.
It is therefore, quite troubling that the Oculus Rift, the visual gaming device of next generation only has a resolution of 1280×800 or atleast unless Nvidia’s R&D department can do something about it.
What? It's a 1920x1080 panel, split up into 960x1080 per eye. What the hell are wccftech/nVidia talking about? 1280x800 (640x800) was the DK1 resolution.. and Oculus already said CV1 will be even higher.

It's just wccftech, they're a rumour site. They generally don't actually think about what they post. Nvidia are smarter than that.
But yeah, this is exactly what the Rift needs. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Oculus worked with them on this. The big downside to it is that it needs to be TFT. Can't be done with OLED as far as I can tell. TN would also be even worse than normal for this; it's bad now, but in a cascaded setup the light leakage would basically destroy all its benefits. VA would come after that, IPS after that - IGZO is most suited for it.
If someone is interested in a fun cheap version of the rift, there is the google cardboard project. I do not have tried the rift so I don't know exactly how it compares, but I have to say that the demo they have is quite fun and immersive.
Basically it's a bunch of cardboard with two lenses and you put your android in it, you can either buy the kit
With that said I would really like to try an Oculus... I'm always tempted to just go an buy one, then think at the future consumer version. What to do, what to do...

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Thanks again.
It's too hot to be inside for longer periods so i havent done any tinkering with it yet. I really need to buy myself one of those portable air conditoners.
Alright, 3D movies work too with the open source VR Player app and a DK2 Tracker plugin posted on the oculus forums. Now I just need more Vireiro updates and plugins for several games and I'm golden.
So I finally got Euro Truck Sim 2* and Elite Dangerous working, thanks again for the tips Ghworg .
I must admit I had a blast ! ETS2 is much more playable than with DK1.
But ...
Resolution still isn't good for a full longtime enjoyable gameplay.
And I see this 75Hz/fps will become a big issue for high quality and demanding games especially as resolution should increase for CV1.
ETS2 have DK2 support already :
- hop in oculus beta branch in Steam
- put "-oculus" as launch parameter
- put OR in extended mode
- reduce gfx to maintain 75fps or bring a bucket beside to be safe.

Has anybody gotten Direct Access to work with any demos? I honestly think it's only worked maybe once or twice out of the 10-12 demos I've tried. I almost always have to use Extended.
Also, for anybody experiencing judder during head rotation, I'm pretty sure I nailed it down to a frame rate issue (and lack of Timewarp?). In Elite Dangerous positional tracking was extremely smooth, but the instant I made any sort of head rotation, the judder was so bad I had to stop. I realized I could just take screenshots with FRAPS to see the framerate counter hidden from the Rift's view and, sure enough, it was fluctuating between 50-75fps. I lowered the graphical quality to low and it was instantly ten times more comfortable. The judder is almost completely nonexistent. Sure, I don't have pretty shadows and whatnot, but now I can actually imagine myself playing for extended periods of time.
Which brings me to my next point. I've owned a DK1 for a year and it always gave that tiny little glimpse of the future. I've always thought that someday it'll be so good that people will not want to leave VR, but it seemed a bit far off. Well, with my first night with DK2, I'm realizing that it's going to happen much much quicker than I expected and, honestly, for the first time, I got a little worried about it. I have an extremely addictive personality and I can now say with 99% certainty that I'll be spending the majority of the rest of my life in VR. Oh well, fuck it. This shit is going to rule.
