Dark corners of the earth was in my 2013 playthrough list, even though I have played 75% of the game on release.

The point is,its fresh in my memory just how amazing that game is, no nostalgia talk Smile

The lore is awesome for the horror genre, so I hope this game continues the tradition of good cthulhu games on the PC.

Frogwares are talented people, so we're in good hands. Though we still don't know if the game will be a pure adventure like their previous games or an action-adventure a-la DCoTE.

I hope it's the latter, because Dark Corners was damn great indeed. Razz

Dark Corners was fantastic. It was a surprise for me, really, because I didn't expect the game to be this good. It built atmosphere and tension perfectly.

The inn, the "Mommy", the whole damn city area was incredible. First hour or two I was like So Much Win In later parts there was sometimes a little bit too much shooting, but it was still a really good survival horror experience. And the ship level... Pure win.

Fingers crossed for the new game being that good as well.

Just came across this post: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=178879697&postcount=174 which links to http://www.gamepressure.com/e.asp?ID=242 which claims that Frogwares left the game's development and Styx: Master of Shadows developer Cyanide Studio is now working on it for publisher Focus Home Interactive. The game now has a 2017 release date.

Frogwares will no longer work with Focus which is what caused this.

Looks and sounds great.

What's confusing is that after the rumors that Cyanide had taken over development were published in August, in December Frogwares released some pictures: https://twitter.com/Frogwares/status/677420116418670593 and in February 2016 they said "they are working [on it]".

But if Cyanide took over development what the hell is that Cthulhu game they are working on? So it might be that Frogwares are now developing their own Cthulhu game (not a "Call of" one).

edit yeah, they now refer to it as "Lovecraftian", so I guess when for whatever reason they lost the license of "Call of Cthulhu" (which has a copyright) they decided to continue developing the game and make it belong in the general mythos which is in the public domain.

Indeed, that is.. awkward. In the best case scenario we could end up having two good Lovercraftian games...but in the worst one, I don't want to think about it xD

Cyanide lol. No thanks.

Just yesterday I was thinking of playing a Lovecraftian game. So when I saw the screenshot of this, it had my curiosity. But fuck Cyanide, an average at best studio who always partner with THE average publisher.

"RPG-Investigation game with psychological horror and stealth mechanics"

Stealth is one of those things that very little studios can afford to do it right. I have no faith in Cyanide to deliver that. Not when Styx wasn't up to par.

RPG. Yea writing of Cyanide have been garbage, I don't see how they write a proper Lovecraft horror story.

At least Frogwares is specialized in these type of games, I just don't see Cyanide pulling this off. Especially when Focus Home is the publisher.

Someone on neogaf said this last month: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=191370503&postcount=235

I have some new info on the game from a credible source. It won't be based directly on one of Lovecraft's works but will be an original story set in the Lovecraft universe but in an original town/country. It is being written by someone with a great deal of experience in the genre. A title has not been established as of yet so an official announcement may be a way off. After finding this out I presume Cyanide will be developing Call of Cthulhu and it looks as though Frogwares are going it on their own so we may get 2 Lovecraft games in the future.

That's a junior though so, not very credible.

Doesn't really mean much. A game takes more than just one writer creating the story and characters, someone else still needs to write dialogues, screenplay, design the flow, progressions, branches if there's any. Having someone experienced in the genre is a good start, no doubt.

Hope that Frogwares manages to put out their Lovecraftian game at some point. Cyanide doesn't have the chops for this I am afraid. I'll still play it though without a doubt since I am a sucker for Lovecraftian horror.

Call of Cthulhu: insanity is the only path for truth

The E3 trailer for Call of Cthulhu, the official video game adaptation of Chaosium’s pen & paper RPG, rises from the depths. Developed for consoles and PC by Cyanide Studio in Paris, Call of Cthulhu will offer an RPG-Investigation title, packed with psychological horror and stealth mechanics. Cyanide Studios brings to life a disturbing world that players will have to explore and investigate while Cthulhu, the Great Dreamer, prepares its awakening. Today’s E3 Trailer offers but a glimpse at all that awaits you.

In Call of Cthulhu, players will control Edward Pierce, a former veteran and private investigator in 1920s Boston. Pierce will be investigating the tragic and mysterious death of Sarah Hawkins and her family in Darkwater Island. The game’s E3 Trailer showcases this disturbing Island and the eerie Hawkins Family Mansion, and gives a glimpse at how the intensity of the investigation will slowly start chipping away at your Sanity.

Insanity and the Cthulhu Mythos have long been entwined – as your investigation brings you closer to Cthulhu’s sphere of influence, madness will progressively engulf your senses, leaving you to increasingly question what is real and what is illusory. They say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth and you will have to balance your sanity against your determination to discover it!

The Cthulhu Mythos has grown to become one of the largest shared universes ever envisioned, giving birth to countless stories, novels, and even movies ever since the original publication of Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu.

Call of Cthulhu will release in 2017 on consoles and PC

Adore Lovecraft - but the amount of good games based on his work can be counted on a couple of fingers.

Cyanide's best tends to be mediocre - but let's hope this is an exception.
