http://venturebeat.com/2014/07/30/crytek-drops-u-k-studio-and-downsizes-its-team-in-austin/
Quote:
Crytek is closing its U.K. studio and cutting jobs from its U.S. team in Austin, Texas. Much of the talent from Crytek U.K. will join Deep Silver’s new studio in England to continue working on Homefront: The Revolution. The Austin wing of the company(ex-Vigil) will remain open to operate as a support team for North American developers that license the studio’s CryEngine development toolkit, but development of co-op thriller Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will move from Austin to Crytek’s Frankfurt team. This news comes after months of rumors that the developers was missing payroll payments to its employees.

“As we look to cement Crytek’s future, this strategic deal with Koch Media would allow us to continue with our ambitious goals to become an online publisher,” Crytek chief executive officer Cevat Yerli said in a statement. “With Warface, Arena of Fate, and Hunt, we believe we have the perfect portfolio and teams to make that happen. We would like to thank all our staff – past and present – in both Nottingham and Austin for their contributions to the company, and we wish all the very best to anyone who may no longer be under the Crytek banner moving forward.”

While Crytek is cutting jobs in Austin, the company says it will offer those employees the opportunity to apply for work at its German offices … on another continent.

The developer’s other studios in Budapest, Istanbul, Kiev, and Sofia will continue operating without changes or job cuts.

Rest in pieces Crytek

BTW: sad for ex-Vigil guys

So I'm guessing the team in Austin will join Star Citizen now, seeing they did a lot of work for them (then again I doubt any of that team got laid off).

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Some people were very impatient and got angry at the smallest delay. Also, there was a critique of us not being proactive in communication, which we don't understand, because we had been frequently in the UK as well as every other studio, talking about potentially rough times. And we had even shared with people how they should maybe work with different banks at a personal level to prepare. Or, if not, they could make a choice to resign and look for other jobs.

The fucking arrogance of this man. Jesus H Christ.

It's okay, it's okay! Crytek *advised* its employees on how to take out loans or remortgage their homes!

Orly sounds like my old boss, the one that with his half-assed, shady decisions made the company go tits-up and also kept lying to all the teams involved until it was too late to go back (in order to finally get our delayed pays - the last few months at least - which did not happen obviously). Awful people Mad I wish 'em a life full of Ryse.

I didn't want to start another thread so I'll just ask here - is anyone currently working (or was) with cryengine game or mod? I want to join a mod team as a programmer but the documentation/tutorials created for the SDK are bad or non-existent on some topics (custom shader programming?). Can anyone recommend some good sources other than crydev or yt-vids please?

http://docs.cryengine.com/display/SDKDOC1/CRYENGINE+3.6+Features

That's the documentation for the SDK (With the info on the latest version of the engine linked to but they do cover down to 3.0 as well.), it's pretty extensive but for further help or more in-depth guides for say Crysis or Crysis 2's editors you would probably need to check Crydev.

http://www.crydev.net/forum.php

There's Unreal Engine 4 as well - https://www.unrealengine.com/blog although they don't have a free version of the latest engine so the UDK would still be based on 3.x

Both are good engines as far as I can tell with my limited knowledge and experience but I think UE4 is definitively winning over Cry-Engine, full source code availability, community is involved much more and contribute to the engine, numerous free example demos and very frequent updates plus access to SVN builds or beta previews like the upcoming 4.4 release.

(CryEngine was finally updated to 3.6.5 yesterday which added some stuff though but they have a ways to go if they want to directly compete with Unreal Engine.)

Thanks but those features are for 3.6 already which is not part of the Free SDK (3.5.Cool which I'm using. To use 3.6+ and all future updates you need the steam one which requires a monthly sub, and I don't want to pay for it just yet. Also the doc site doesn't give you deep enough insight or useful examples to really learn the SDK.

I know UE is far superior but that's what the mod team is already using.

I am aware that the community is pretty dead but it's still the best "free" engine to create large scale outdoors fps game.

Shocked Drooling

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

I have the SDK installed though I'm not subscribed at the moment though it still gets updated although I can not use it.

Can't find a pak explorer utility though but I packed up the tools and editor folder and the zip containing the source data.

I think it's the same as with Crysis 3 and Ryse where it uses a custom encryption found in one of the .dll files (If there still are .dll files, otherwise it's all compiled into the exe.) so a unpacker can be a problem unless the existing one for Crysis 3 works.

Here's a discussion on Xentax:
http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12184&sid=3025183a900d65f62d3aaf3c3801152a

And the Crysis 3 unpacker:

Considering Evolve is an online game, I'm going to go ahead and assume you won't be able to unpack or utilise any unpacked data without triggering modified-file-alerts that will likely end up with you being banned :\

Looks nice, turned off the first video after a few seconds. I can't stand motion/panning "judder" in videos that are supposed to show off great visuals. Whether it's a YT issue or whether the scene just runs at 2fps and is sped up artificially, it doesn't matter, still ugly and detracting Sad
