Target audience: junior school teenagers, silly youvebeenshosen.dot.com ARG and Syfy-like production values, what could possibly go wrong with this game
This you have been chosen is typical shit they use in all sorts of media right now. The target audience is young adults, a.k.a people who are in their twenties, but mentally still 14. Generation YOLO.
It will be of the quality as the young adult superhero movies, where you vicariously live through the teenage hero, and the main and only message is: you are speshul. Believe in urself, and you will accomplish EVERYTHUNG. Modern durrghons!

Bioware has released a third teaser trailer for its upcoming new IP franchise that will be unveiled at Gamescom. In addition, the company announced that it will be holding a special fan event at Cologne Marriott Hotel on Augusth 13th (3PM – 7PM CEST). Not only that, but those who won’t attend Gamescom will be able to participate via TwitchTV from 4PM – 5 PM CEST. In other words, this new IP will most probably be revealed during that event. Enjoy!
Seems like RPG about superpowers ,teenagers and buttsex
Why do they insist on having teen crap in Sci-Fi these days... don't they know us geeks got older... we don't need that teen drama in our sci-fi! Kids watch youboobs, not tv, and play facebook/phone games instead something proper!
Good Sci-Fi takes place in an elaborate world, wherein fully developed characters interact, and the sci-fi bits are there to ask fundamental questions about the human condition: questions about morality, questions about determinism, questions about consciousness, about being ... etc
Shit sci-fi, aka shit Young Adult shit, has a bland/empty main character, through which the reader/viewer lives vicariously. The world and characters are set up in a specific way: i.e. one to rebel against. These productions serve one single purpose to channel teen angst (young adult angst these days, since we now have 20 somethings, who are emotionally still 13) in to cash.
I boycott every and all Young Adult shits, and simply laff at people, who enjoy shit like that.
Shadow Realms has been confirmed as the new IP from BioWare Austin, and it’s an online action game inspired by pen-and-paper RPGs
Shadow Realms is set in a modern fantasy world, and features an ever-evolving over-arching narrative which will be released episodically. BioWare expects it to play out like a TV show, except the community will explore it together.
The multiplayer-only gameplay is asymmetrical; you can join a four-player party of heroes, or go up against just such a party as a Shadowlord.
BioWare calls this “dynamic co-operative four-versus-one”. These individual matches are part of a greater narrative in a fight against something called the Insidious One. No two play session will be the same, apparently. Players will earn experience and progress their characters, whether they play a hero or a Shadowlord.
"Shadow Realms is a multiplayer action RPG ‘dungeon crawler.’ Set in both modern day Earth and the parallel world of Embra, Heroes harness the most powerful abilities of both worlds to reach their greatest potential. Shadow Realms has flexible RPG style character progression and customization that allows the player to choose their Hero’s powers, whether that means shooting a gun, wielding an axe, or casting fireballs. Every match is comprised of four Hero player characters that can be any combination of six classes with countless combinations of abilities and equipment. Together, these Heroes fight their way through different Realms (both on Earth and Embra), finding treasure, dodging traps, opening secret doors, discovering lore, and completing story-driven objectives along the way. But all the while, a fifth player – the Shadowlord – is opposing them.
In tabletop RPG sessions, the Dungeon Master (DM) does not see the game world differently than the Hero players. While they do have perfect knowledge of the tactical situation, they still interact with the game world in the same way as the players – with pens, papers, and imagination. And if they are a fair DM, they play by the rules. With Shadow Realms, we decided that the Shadowlord should interact with and see the gameplay world in a similar way to the Hero players – albeit with better tactical knowledge.
Just like the Hero player characters, the Shadowlord character has broad progression and customization. However, their objective is to stop the group of Heroes by haunting them, setting traps, casting spells, summoning monsters, and controlling any monster in the level. And by controlling monsters, I don’t mean a top down clicking to direct monsters. The Shadowlord is not a disembodied character affecting the world from outside and “above” the game, so to speak. They are in the mix with the Hero player characters for the entire dungeon crawl sharing the same 3rd person over the shoulder camera and control scheme. The key difference is that the Shadowlord remains unseen until they possess a monster, cast certain spells, or choose to reveal themselves."
Sounds like a bold design idea though. To have asymmetrical multiplayer in this form - one "dungeon master" against 4 "heroes"... I don't recall any game that has attempted this, at least not on this scale.
I'm not sure if it'll be my type of game and don't know if they'll succeed in making a good game, but it does sound innovative at least.
