Stuck in the first loading screen and reading steam,I'm not the only one. :/

Might as well test the yarr version to see if it has the same issue.

Motherfuckers. Very Happy

Steam forum to the rescue, disabling cpu cores makes this game work...apparently it only works on 4-cores. Laughing

at least I can play now.

Seems I am suffering from the same thing. I can't be bothered to disable anything to get the damn game to run. Into the bin it goes. Rolling Eyes

It will be patched in a day or so at most I suspect, issue is identified and should be fixed as soon as the developers have time.
(But some of them are at the current game event so support might be a bit slower than usual.)

Yeah, I assumed it would be patched eventually. I will revisit the game at that time.

After playing for about an hour, I can claim this with certainty: people have forgotten, how Risen 2 was, as this is MUCH better.

Combat is not nearly as fun as R1, or as precise, but it's like two steps up from R2.

There is however many, many stuff to explore, and the RPG mechanics are more thought out than in either Risens.

Overall, I give it my seal of approval thus far, and I will be playing this to the bitter end, for sure >D

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Few things that stuck out to me.

Double tapping movement makes your character dodge? WTF it's so annoying.
Patty went full retard.
Voice acting is ok, the usual slightly creepy/slightly funny you'd expect from PB.
Environments are nice and made me want to explore. It has that nice feeling from Risen1/gothic.
The factions seem cool and most characters are interesting.
Combat is passable but boring. I don't have any upgrades or magic though which I imagine make it heaps better.

Solved the damn thing, well it's a temporary workaround actually but without messing in bios and crap and it'll hopefully be fixed properly via a patch shortly. Smile

You make use of a affinity mask.
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/change-the-processor-affinity-setting-in-windows-7-to-gain-a-performance-edge/

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/24086-processor-affinity-set-applications-windows-8-a.html

So for me it would be a six or four core CPU value.

Which to put it shortly you use by starting the exe from a command line parameter or shortcut or bat file.

cmd.exe
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Risen 3\system\ start /affinity 3 Risen3.exe

You cannot use the task manager, it has to be done from before the game is started.

3 in this case means it uses the first two cores and then I can use the task manager to fine adjust it to use up to six cores.

EDIT: Damn it only works partially so the game is still prone to randomly freezing, waiting for a patch seems to be the only option then aside from limiting the actual number of cores.

I have some question before downloading this game. Is there any character customization at all? Can you change your look or are there many armors at least? Is it worth doing the quests in therm of reward? I am tired of the RPGs these days where you get better stuff from killing random mobs and total garbage from really long and tough quests. Like in Skyrim - go to the deepest dungeon, kill 53,468 undead warriors, avoid 100 traps, spend like an hour or so and in the end you get a dagger or sword identical to the one that you got when you killed your first bandit in the game...

No character customization although you can adjust your attributes and you need to learn new skills from trainers, usually limited by what faction you join.

Quest rewards are mainly "glory" which is used to raise attributes but you also get gold and on occasion an item but the better stuff has to be earned either by buying it or finding it.
(Armor might be limited to the faction you join as well as with the previous Piranha Bytes games.)

@warriormax regarding loot- the game's world is handmade thus it makes exploration and progression much more interesting and rewarding than that of randomly generated game(loot etc)

story is lame as fuck as usual (as usual for any pb game). but after you choosed your fraction you have almost the same open world feeling like in gothic2. the game doesnt tell you where to go to follow the main story, its all up to you

Oh, come on, the fact that it even has dodge at all already makes it better than Risen 2 Razz Not that it's much of an achievement Laughing

Still, I'm glad to hear it's an improvement and I'm even more glad to hear at least some PB games fans are liking it. Means there's a good chance I'll have a lot of fun with it.

A patch added dodge in Risen 2, but I do remember playing Risen 2 without a patch and the combat was godawful. After the patch it was much better but still quite clunky.
I also remember that the combat was really challenging until you got muskets, and voodoo wasn't nearly as powerful. I hope Risen 3 is better balanced in that area.

I'll give it another go during the weekend, Risen 2 had a lot of flaws but I enjoyed myself completing it. Risen 3 has the same flaws at first sight, but it has charm.

Ah, well, didn't know that. Played Risen 2 right after the launch, had some good time with it, despite the combat, but never looked back after that.

Well, the game seems to run perfectly fine for me, which is great because so far I really like it. They did improve things a lot. The combat system is not actually bad, it could be better, but it's good enough as it is. I'm also glad to see this one is really well optimized for the most part. It looks better than Risen 2 and it also runs a lot better for me.

Tried it with both gamepad and KM, and unlike R2, this controls very well with KM.

When it comes to combat, just read my previous post, but Iáll reiterate this much: if you play it like if it were R2, then it will suck just as R2 did. Do not spam. Learn attack patterns, learn your own patterns, the combat is polished up. On hard it's very much fun without being frustrating.

The world is very nicely crafted, and the attention to detail is better than the previous Risens.

The world is semi-open. Free to go anywhere, but it's not a large area, however it is dense, and full of secrets, and exploration is rewarded much better than in shit like Skyrim.

after 4-5-6 hours into the game i would say its good and fun. the biggest flaw is the non existent face animations to express their mood/feelings. they only wave their arms ^^

They are more open now, but it's not *completely* open. It's basically like G2.

I hate open worlds, that are empty and unrewarding. This world is packed with content, and loads of incentives to actually explore.

I'm well in to the game, like 5 hours, and still have only explored the first island and around 30% of the second island.

Writing is weird, as always, and as such, good fun.

what he said!

I'm thoroughly enjoying playing this game.

Yeah. However, I wish they would stop copying g2 and actually improve certain aspects of their games like story, for instance. It is kinda generic in all their games. Then , if they insist on having combat like this one, they should check out how it is done in ,say, dark souls, etc etc
