The fact that they used Last Light's engine is noticeable, looks fairly different from how I remember. Hope they didn't make it too easy (there's actually a classic style as well it seems).
Wonder how the survival mode works with ranger difficulty, should be quite a challenge.
(Although I guess spartan mode and ranger won't be that easy either.)
Will be fun to re-explore Metro 2033 again and see the updates the new engine brings.
As long as they didn't screw 2033 challenging gameplay, it'll be fine. What I'm wondering if they finally managed to give some challenge to gameplay in Last Light.
Metro: Redux on PC will feature higher resolution textures than those found on consoles, better optimized PhysX effects (that will take advantage of PhysX 3.x) and greater levels of tessellation.
As GeForce noted:
“On PC, the collective Metro Redux package benefits from higher-resolution textures, higher-quality effects, greater levels of PnP tessellation, support for 4K resolutions, and most significantly, re-tooled NVIDIA GPU-accelerated PhysX effects built using PhysX 3.x, the latest version of the critically acclaimed physics software.”
Tech comparison and benchmark between 2033 and 2033 Redux.
EDIT: Strange that they are testing with 14.6 for AMD when it's 14.7 that has a profile for the game.
(Otherwise it seems pretty optimized seeing how much the visuals have improved though especially so for Nvidia GPU's which even sees a small performance gain from the original version whereas AMD sees a performance loss.)

The comparison screens from the article are a tad suspicious.
There are better textures, but seems like they're using less tessellation overall, and a much brighter lighting (with bloom) that makes the game lose some of its original atmosphere.
Global illumination was added, for Metro 2033 they adapted the graphical style from Last Light in addition to the game engine so yeah it's brighter but even Last Light Redux is brighter than the old version.
(That PCGamesHardware.de benchmark has a comparison slider that shows this fairly well. -> http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Metro-2033-PC-143440/Specials/Technik-Test-1131855/ The comparison picture with the title "Last Light Original vs Redux")
Last light is 5 bucks on steam. Wonder if I should get it or wait for isodemo of redux version.
I've finished the isodemo without dlc and steam have complete pack for 5

I'm playing the Redux version (I want a different experience this time so I'm playing it on "Spartan", the more pew pew friendly version compared to the original - although I'm so early in the game that basically I haven't encountered any serious combat so far) and the improvements are massive.
New soundtrack that works well with the action/cutscenes, new notes that help explain the story and expand on the lore, much better to the eye art assets.. Some killer global illumination.. (I miss some heavy volumetric lighting, but the art improvements alone more than make up for it. Oh and Artyom's new voice.. not a deal breaker but I prefer the original.)
It feels so much more polished. It hooked me immediately. It just "flows" so much better.
Weird to see this thread just died like nobody played this. Get to it

Gameplay in this game was already leagues above Last Light, but yeah, the technical improvements certainly must add a lot to the experience and I'm sure we can say this is now the definitive Metro game. I plan to be playing it soon
Unless I am terribly mistaken there are just tons of new conversations the NPCs have in the station.. So many I have trouble hearing them all since they are in real time and some of them overlap each other. So much more world building, atmosphere and so on..
Really impressive stuff.

Yeah there were a few problems with stealth beyond half-game but at least it was properly challenging contrary to the complete joke it was in Last Light
I'll disable it. edit: At least I hope it is PhysX because some people say the crashes persist

Well, I can confirm that disabling Advanced PhysX fixed my crashing. I'm on GTX 970.
Anyway, just playing this game for the first time ever. I wasn't interested back in 2010, and I rather didn't push Last Light on my old GTX 570 ('fraid it would melt ) when it came out, so now, with the Redux version out and my new 970 ready to get to work, it seemed like the most perfect time to jump on board. Needles to say, I'm impressed so far. Hopefully, Last Light is just as good.
I hope the stealth is improved as well. I remember it being all over the place especially during the nazi level on ranger difficulty.
It's definitely better. All the animations and mechanics are borrowed from Last Light, but the different level design somewhat makes the AI blindness less noticeable if compared to LL.

Hopefully this doesn't mean that they copied the stealth mechanics from Last Light and put it in 2033 Redux, cause that would effectively ruin the whole thing. I will remain optimistic though

Partially, instead of gradual visibility it's that on/off thing from Last Light and enemies are a bit more forgiving if you are spotted.
(They calm down faster if you disappear, I believe they remained alert forever originally.)
