Yeah ranged combat, you can usually buy 100 bullets for a low price. I have around 350 rounds of each type Laughing

Am like 16 hours in, and still liking it very much.

Common complaint in reviews, is that they game the combat system by constant rolling and letting the companion off the enemies.

Idiot fucktard journos, that is EXACTLY the way to not learn anything of the game. They suck in combat, because they didn't make a good build (which takes like minimal effort, but it's not handed to you on a silver platter), and they never actually learned the patterns.

The combat is nothing special, you might even call it uninspired, but it is very funcional and consistent. Don't get, what the crying is about.

Fucking stupid journos.

3-4 hours in game and i tried 3 times to get in the game but i can't, gameplay is mediocre, graphics outdated, like they applied overburn effect from photoshop, models are joke, risen was really awesome, what happened with risen 2 and 3 i really don't understand. Gothic 3 with patch is way better then this.

About 8 hours in and I still like it. Not as good as risen 1 as far as I can remember but it's close enough. Leagues above the 2nd. If you can ignore the dodgy production values and sometimes awful dialogue theirs fun to be had. Learning some magic and switching between it and melee makes the combat pretty satisfying as well. Good enough/10

I like and enjoy it very much, imho the best Risen so far. It looks old and cheap at some parts but its far from game breaking. Gothic fans can totally play and enjoy this.
Looks like three factions and big world to freely explore will give enough replay value.

Do I have to do things on each of the faction islands to get Antigua to show up? I need to talk to the admiral before I can join the Demon Hunters, but the island hasn't shown up on the map.

Strange, it should be the first island you go to and it's next to the gnome island on the map and below the inquisition's plantation island.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I think you can travel to Antigua after you talk to Bones about it. Have you exhausted his dialogue?

I didn't think it was possible to sail away from Crab island without fully talking to Bones but maybe it is possible to use the rowboat and then the rudder of the main boat to sail without talking to him?

Ah that might well be it, I think I still have one or two dialogue options with him. I was pretty anxious to get off Crab Island.

There are a few interesting things to discover but I'd also recommend leaving and then returning after you've gained a few more attribute points ("glory") and learned a few new skills, opening locked chests for example. Smile

EDIT: A lone screenshot from Gnome island, fun place but pretty tiny.

I properly finished only one island(guardians) Wink and although I have like 95 crystal magic I found there a chest that requires even higher magic level in order to open it with Rust Wink

Anyways, the moment I got the glove that shoots fire\ice'\lightning (faction weapon) combat has got much easier.+

healing spell
+
Rain of Fire (a pretty nice aoe spell although I wish it hit harder) ;p

There are some places you can get to only by turning into a bird . I liked it .

I'm playing this but have a few questions and could not find the answers anywhere online... for some reason there is very little info online about this game.

1) What's the purpose of "soul", the thing you can increase or decrease through conversations?

2) Are there permanent skill potions which use the skill herbs? In other words, should I hold onto my skill herbs or can I use them?

Yes brewing potions will make a stronger version than just eating the herb.

Soul I'm not 100% sure about but a low value means you are disliked by humans though you can have other benefits instead, high value means you get a more favorable reputation amongst the living or how to say but there could be other benefits as well.

There's a special companion that will leave you when you have a very high soul reputation to name one thing. Smile
(And he will complain every time you do gain soul level.)

Soul reputation is gained by being nice to people such as not demanding a reward or just treating people nicely during conversations, quests usually allow for conversations so you can have either a positive or a negative soul reputation (Or what to call it.) outcome. Smile

Patty has changed in every one of the games now hasn't she?

EDIT: Yeah she's changed a bit.

Yeah they kinda overdid it but then again PB has usually had problems with women in their games.
(The only females in the first Gothic were a bunch of sex slaves as I remember - for Gomez the ore-baron -, then in Gothic 2 there were farmers and well prostitutes and for Gothic 3 most were again slaves or servants.)

EDIT: Risen 1 did a bit better come to think of it though the outfits and designs were a bit odd.

Anyone else experiencing extreme lag and choppines? Starts randomly and then it is always present. Restarting the game does nothing.

Starts randomly and always present makes it seem like a VRAM or RAM issue to me, but the game shouldn't be that demanding either, perhaps a memory leak then?
(If you have a integrated GPU you could also try with disabling it.)

Thank you for the answer. Disabled integrated GPU, but it does not help. Lowering graphic details to low on everything... nothing helps. Latest drivers for GPU also.
