The Xbox One Collector’s Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also include additional physical content--Gwent, a highly addictive card game, and a unique cloth map of the in-game world.
“Gwent is an amazing game and we're really happy to be able to bring it to the physical realm with Microsoft's help. Now we’ve got Gwent in every copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as an in-game experience for free on every platform, and a physical version in the Xbox One CE, how awesome is that?” said Marcin Iwiński, CD PROJEKT RED Co-founder and Joint CEO.
Gwent will be available as an in-game experience for everyone who purchases and plays The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The physical representations of two in-game decks are exclusive to the Xbox One Collector’s Edition of the game.
Gee, thanks CDP. Guess shitmoney from MicroShit really works.
As long as actual game content stays the same, I couldn't care less. Invidual publishing deals like that were here for ages, it's adding in-game exclusive stuff that gets on my nerves.
Except the "individual publishing deals there were here for ages" weren't there in W1 and W2. And the same CEO that is now "excited to bring exclusive bullshit to the weakest platform because we got paid hot dollars" said this a couple of months ago:
Quote:
"We are treating all gamers equally," Iwinski answered me.
"We'll not deliver exclusive content to any of the platforms, nor will we artificially delay release of the game on any of the platforms because somebody's paying us money for that. It's definitely against our values. We are not doing that."
They're not screwing over the average Joe. The average consumer. No, they're screwing over the customers who are willing to pay more money, who are willing to support CDP more, by buying the collector's edition.
The average console/PC gamer get the same content if they buy the retail version of the game.
The hardcore fans of previous games or CDP? They are screwed unless they purchase the "totally-not-exclusive" CE for XBONE.

Who the fuck wants to play at 720-900p at 30 or less fps? Kinda shitty move.

Of course they were. TW2 on GoG is something different than TW2 on Steam - the difference being DRM, an issue forced by the publisher. TW1's and, if I'm not mistaken, TW2's physical editions were also differing between countries, which is no less "condescending" than differences based on platform. These are publishing deals, it has nothing to do with exclusivity of game content - that's the thing I abhor and rage against, that's the point where I draw the line.
Maybe I would treat the issue more seriously if I still gave a fuck about phyisical stuff added to games, but I don't - despite TW2's CE comfortably sitting on my shelf - so it doesn't affect me. Including DRM in TW2 was way more "against their ideals" as far as I'm concerned, so if I accepted that, I don't really give a damn about an "exclusive" deck of cards and a sheet of cloth to wipe my ass with.
*edit*
Just to clarify: I do get where you're coming from, though. I just don't see it that way. What I care about in a game developer is quality of the product and support after the launch - that's the important part of a developer's/publisher's relation with their customer. I don't buy CDP's "saviour of gaming" image, but I do like it as far as it affects their games and support of them (free enhanced edition being a chief example). But that's about it. If I treat CDP differently than other devs, it's because of the quality of their games, not their PR image.
But what's stopping CDPR from taking extra money for exclusive in game content from MS or Sony?
Because they said so? Well they also said they'd be no exclusive content on any platform. I guess that meant just in game content but they will accept handouts from MS for physical goods in the Collectors Edition.
It's a thin line to tread and one that some gamers won't be happy about especially PC/PS4 gamers that paid the same price for less content, physical or otherwise.

I suppose I can see why some hardcore fans would be upset, seeing how they won't have the option to get a "complete" edition for their collection... but at the same time I just can't make myself care about this even a little - there are only so many fucks I can give, and I'd rather not waste them on this
As far as exclusivity deals go, I'd say let them do this for all other games as well, instead of exclusive in-game missions/equipment/skins/whatever. But that's just me - a normal ( ) non-collector's edition person - talking.
