Every villain has a noble cause, and every hero has a dark side.
In the gritty new action-drama GANG RELATED, Detective RYAN LOPEZ (Ramon Rodriguez, “Battle Los Angeles,” “The Wire”) is a rising star in Los Angeles' elite Gang Task Force. What the world doesn't know is that long before Ryan became a cop, he pledged allegiance to a different band of brothers – a powerful Latino gang called Los Angelicos.
When Ryan's best friend and police partner is senselessly killed by a notorious gang member, Ryan teams up with longtime Task Force member CASSIUS GREEN (RZA, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” “Californication”), who has been at the forefront of the city's war on organized crime. In this war between law enforcement and gangs, the series explores how only people who really know the streets can win the battle on the streets.
Despite his profession, Ryan is still beholden to the gang's leader, JAVIER ACOSTA (Cliff Curtis, “Live Free or Die Hard,” “Training Day”), the father figure Ryan has tried to make proud his entire life and the man who masterminded his entry into the police force. It's a secret that has been held for a decade by Ryan, Javier and Javier's sons: cold-blooded gang lieutenant CARLOS (Rey Gallegos, “Sons of Anarchy,” “24”); and Ryan's childhood best friend, straight-laced investment banker DANIEL (Jay Hernandez, “Last Resort,” “Hostel”).
But Ryan is starting to realize that he is even more dedicated to being a cop than he is to Los Angelicos. He is respected by his team, including TAE KIM (Sung Kang, “Fast Five,” “Live Free or Die Hard”), VERONICA “VEE” DOTSEN (Inbar Lavi, “Underemployed,” “Street Kings 2: Motor City”) and Task Force leader SAM CHAPEL (Terry O'Quinn, “Lost”), Ryan's other surrogate father figure, whose estranged daughter, JESSICA (Shantel VanSanten, “One Tree Hill,” “The Final Destination”), is the city's Assistant District Attorney.
Ryan's education comes from the streets, and that schooling will work to his advantage, as he, Cassius and the rest of the police unit take aim at the city's most dangerous gangs. While balancing two allegiances, two father figures and two families, Ryan's increasing sense of loyalty to one will help him finally determine which side of the law he is really on.
GANG RELATED is from 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment, Chris Morgan Productions and Skeeter Rosenbaum Productions. The series is created and written by Chris Morgan (“Wanted,” “Fast Five”). The series is executive-produced by Morgan, Scott Rosenbaum (“The Shield,” “Chuck”), Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer (“24,” “A Beautiful Mind”) and Francie Calfo (“The Great Escape,” “The Playboy Club”). Allen Hughes (“Dead Presidents,” “Book of Eli,” “Menace II Society”) directed and served as an executive producer on the pilot.
Yeah, looks very appealing cinematographically but from the writer of Fast and the Furious? That's not gonna be good story-wise, and filled with over-the-top action sequences
The trailer oozed genuine derp, just as expected. Who knows, maybe it will be a decent-ish timewaster afterall. However, hopes are very low for many different reasons xD
So I've just finished watching two available episodes and I quite liked it. But, hey, I'm a sucker for undercover shit(sleeping dogs, infernal affairs, the departed, donnie brasco, rush ,beyond the law etc etc) and (possibly ) good girls falling for bad guys lol
PS I didn't get why FOX censored the old lady giving police the finger
They should have never cast Ramon Rodriguez as a lead though he is really bad other than that it's a pretty solid tv series to waste one's time
gets better with every episode, the first ones were meh.
it is certainly not as bad (The last ship etc) as some, who haven't even watched it, paint it to be
Having watched all available episodes I'd give it 6.5-7.
So, if you have nothing to watch, you might as well give it a shot
If you go into it expecting some decent action set pieces and gunplay, then you will be entertained. Have been watching this for the past few weeks and its not too bad; as h0rnyfavn said, its certainly better than The Last Shit. Just don't expect a gritty realistic cop drama; this is not the next "The Wire".
I'm watching episode 1, and who do I see if not RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan(ain't nothin' to fuck with ).
I like the WTC, but RZA, my man, stahp, just stahp. You're not an actor, you've had multiple opportunities to showcase a modicum of acting talent and you failed to do so, stahp.
Watching him attempt to act is painful, I suspect he's only there to make the lead actor's acting more bearable.
Edit: I'll pay him this compliment, he's still a better actor than 50 Cent.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
PS It is pretty easy to guess what really happened in the desert
Spoiler:
They knew the exact location of the drop.So they got there beforehand , dug a large hole, covered it with planks and sand. When the truck arrived they created a diversion and when what was happening at the drop point was blocked by dust in the air they simply unloaded the cargo and hid it in the hole, then covered it with planks and sand again.
After that it was easy.
Ryan had to "capture" Acosta so as to keep his cover intact.
There was nothing in the truck he was driving or just something insignificant.
I bet the real cargo was being moved by a second crew hidden nearby as the brave policemen were chasing Javier.
Simple and efficient.
PS And I have some ideas on what might happen in the season finale. Jessica will find out that Ryan is really a mole, she will confront him and when she tells him she will expose him for what he is (she will be emotional , angry and whatnot so not thinking clearly ) Ryan is going to show her the video of her dad committing a murder as in " If I go down then your father will get sentenced to life in prison"
