Silent Hills

A new Silent Hill game designed by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with the famous director Guillermo del Toro.

Starring Norman Reedus. Running on Fox Engine.

Quote:
Originally, we were thinking of making a game that would make you pee your pants," Kojima said at Gamescom today. But after further discussions with del Toro, Kojima said, "we are aiming for a game that will make you shit your pants.

An excerpt from "P.T." walkthrough revealing it's actually an interactive teaser for Silent Hills.

EDIT: Original substituted for the version provided by Toni.

Polygon wrote:
The P.T. playable demo that Sony announced at Gamescom and released earlier today on the PlayStation Store was actually a teaser for another game: a new Silent Hill from Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro.

The PlayStation 4 "interactive teaser" was apparently a stealthy, creative way to announce the new Silent Hill game that Kojima has been teasing for months. At the end of the P.T. demo, a character is shown walking through a quiet, foggy city street. The names Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro appear on screen just before the main character turns around, revealing that he is played by The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus.

The target platforms haven't been announced thus far. Only PS4 seems to be certain at this point.

There's hope after the announcement that MGS: Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are going to be released on PC. Also what, like only two games out of ten weren't released on PC? It's not that bad.

Watched whole ps4 teaser P.T demo. It is AMAZINGly scary and atmospheric... and have some fantastic ideas.
And raphics are just unbelivable. It blows my mind how good the simple corridor looks.

Wonder if it will ever come to pc...
btw, I've watched it here. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/spookin-with-scoops-08-13-2014/2300-9338/

Nah! It was some kind of Walkthrough, I think. Sony and Konami have released a demo of a mysterious thing called P.T. Since it heavily resembles typical indie horror game, people instantly started doing those retarded 'Let's play...' videos out of it.

That "bitch" - as you called her - was the first one to find out that the project P.T. is actually a playable teaser for a new Silent Hill game. Then the video got viral.

Given that the PC is becoming (has already become?) quite a strong platform, thanks to Steam and plethora of gamers who buy stuff legally, with increasing number of high-profile Konami titles ported to it; I would rather jump onto the optimistic bandwagon here.

One can only hope. I'll apply my usual philosophy here when it comes to exclusives: if they really want to release it on PC, then go on, I'll be a happy panda. If they don't, well, patience. I'll move on and forget about it Razz

Anyway, I doubt they'll achieve the same quality as Silent Hill 2 and 3. Different eras, different generation of gamers etc, the usual stuff when it comes to "survival horrors" these days.

I loved Silent Hill 2. It's still holds up as one of the most atmospheric games ever. Otherwise the rest of the games in the series are mediocre. Downpour was the ultimate trolling on their part. I'm glad that crap never made it to the pc.

I hope they can manage to implement some interesting and inovative ideas in the new game, but I won't hold my breath for it.

Silent Hill 1 and SH2 were the best games of the series. SH1 was a testing grounds, they already had the concept for a horror game in mind but decided to thread carefully. However, in SH2 they went full steam, especially with the lore and design. These grotesque monsters from second game still give the the creeps every time.

Starting from SH3 is went downhill to poorly rehashed ideas.

Don't believe your post for a second. Now, I'm not trying to stir up controversy, but I have to say this.

Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3 are all classics. 4-stars out of 4, imo. And most video game reviewers hail 1 as the greatest, but I have a feeling that's because it's the first, and they were there to play it, similar to how most movie critics hail Raiders of the Lost Ark as the best Indiana Jones, when all three of the first ones are good to great.

And, true, Pyramid Head may be the scariest thing in the SH universe. And 2's story is very psychological and gripping, so I can see why it's the favorite of many.

But, hands down, Silent Hill 3 is an unsung candidate for one of the greatest survival horror games of all time. How critics missed it, I don't know.

That is, of course, if you don't shut your brain off. If you play games by only 'sort-of' paying attention to the story and details, i.e. if you play for fun only (not that there is anything wrong with that, no Seinfeld pun intended), then SH3 will simply be a 'good' game. Fun, frightening, etc. The last truly great Silent Hill game.

But, if you are willing to think while playing a game, SH3 is phenomenal. It has the scariest atmosphere of all the first three. The attention to visual detail surpasses 2 by eons. So many rooms/areas have their own haunting stories if you are daring enough to explore and click on little details. The sound quality is the best.

A good film analogy is Spielberg's Minority Report. If you wanna sit back, eat pizza, and have a beer when you watch it, you will have yourself a great little action flick (craziness of the lead actor aside). But, if you think during it, you'll find it raises many moral and psychological questions.

The same is true of SH3. The characters are so developed, that if you really pay attention to what they say and how they act, there are so many more psychological undertones than SH2, you couldn't even count them all. It's damned near perfection.

That doesn't mean there aren't flaws, of course. The game throws you right into it, similar to SH2, and some of the first couple cut-scenes come off slightly cheesy till you get to know the characters better. And, forewarned, there are two puzzles on hard riddle level that may or may not require outside knowledge (i.e., internet access) to solve. Intelligent puzzles, yes, but you shouldn't need the internet to solve any in-game puzzle, imo.

Besides, if you want to talk about cheap scares, what's the scariest thing in SH2? Pyramid Head, of course. Him (it) is the definition of a cheap scare,. done right He's a boogeyman who makes the first run of the game absolutely terrifying because you are always afraid that every weird noise is him showing up. Genius, yes, but after that, the game becomes far less scary because you know when and where he'll show up. SH3 doesn't make that mistake - the scares are atmosphere based, and quite terrifying for several runs through the game (which, granted, it might take to understand the story).

Well, that was a novel, wasn't it?

Sorry, I should have just said this - If Resident Evil 4 is the Raiders of the Lost Ark of the survival horror world (and it is), then SH3 is the Citizen Kane. It is the God of the SH series, pun intended.

Now you have to play it to get that pun, right?

Yes i think so too and it helps if you see the game for what is: a spinoff, it was never actually ment as a numbered Silent Hill game.
The Climax Studio games Shattered Memorys and Origins are not that bad either just not
as good as Team Silents games and very different in style and gameplay, Homecoming and Downpour on the other hand are just pure action shit.

What.

Kojima and company seem to have put an inordinate amount of thought into what originally seemed like a silly little gimmick. During the Gamescom panel, he explained everything from the game's visuals (they were purposefully downgraded to go along with the gag of P.T. being made by some unknown indie studio) to the reasoning behind the fake-out: a lack of information is scary. We fear the unknown.

@tet666 you lost him when you said an action shooter [part 4 that was the reinvention of the genre] with uzis and guns was a survival horror

survival horror for survival horror fan means , like it sounds survive a horror

a normal girl/guy tries to survive against something that's scary , creates terror ... the unknown
a game about a commando/trained police force that have limited ammo, fighting something non-human ... is not survival horror , the sad thing is many people think this IS... and that's why Resident evil 5 and 6 was what it is ... same can be said about Revelations and other games that came later

In 2005, Resident Evil 4 attempted to redefine the genre by emphasizing reflexes and precision aiming,[70] broadening the gameplay with elements from the wider action genre.[71] Its ambitions paid off, earning the title several Game of the Year awards for 2005,[72][73] and the top rank on IGN's Readers' Picks Top 99 Games list.[74] However, this also led some reviewers to suggest that the Resident Evil series had abandoned the survival horror genre,[40][75] by demolishing the genre conventions that it had established.

Obscure is a survival horror
Alone in the dark is a survival horror
Martian Gothic is a survival horror
FEAR is not a survival horror
Cold Fear is not a survival horror
Fatal Frame is a survival horror
Condemned was a survival horror
Outlast is a survival horror
and the list goes on ...

Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil franchise, announced his new survival horror game The Evil Within, coming in 2014. Trust me i played every survival horror game under the sun and i agree that Resident Evil 5 and 6 are complete shit but Resident Evil 4 was just perfect, Resident Evil was never as scary as more psychological
series like Silent Hill,Siren,Fatal Frame or Clocktower anyway so it seemed like the logical evolution at that time if they had just continued making the games like this without further derpifications it would have worked but of course that wasn't possible.

Yeah seems like konami doesn't want to do exclusive games anymore (the last exclusive game was MGS4 i think) which is understandeble cause it's kinda stupid to exclude potential buyers and with the ps4 and xbox now beeing the same architecture as pc anyway there is really no point in not releasing this on pc too.
Besides there is allrdy MGS5 coming and it uses the same engine.
