dark souls is a pretty nice looking game imo, if you're expecting it to be crysis then you better jog the fuck on because this game is about the >gameplay< as opposed to cinematic graphics. it does look nice regardless though.

You need your eyes checked mate. Never mind crysis... this doesn't visually compete with your average modern game. It's very low end on the graphics front.

The mods make it look and play a lot better, that's why everyone bothers instead of playing the console version (since that one still looks like shit, no mods). How does placing it with other bad ports feel wrong? I assume you mean because it's a good game. Does it being a good game make it a good port? I don't care how good/bad a port other games are.

I can't get into this goddamn game. This is the third time I started it, I keep stopping after 2-3 hours because I get bored. I feel like I'm missing out on the awesome, I just don't see what's so great. I probably suck I guess good combat alone isn't enough for me.
I was the same as you, I started the game 3 times and got bored at Undead Asylum already, but out of the blue the 4th time I started after some time it finally clicked.
yep i ah problems aswell at first , my turn around point was after beating Gargoyles, when the game opened to different areas other than just some castle or chapel. Was forcing myself to play especially with Gargoyles (they were harder than O&S for me)

that's way too early to quit, the undead burg isn't so exciting but boy does it pick up after that.
Yeah Mister_s, I tried it 3 times (I even stopped after that for 6 months) and then I said to myself, man this game can't be that hard and stupid, it must be me. Well I was sadly right. I took the game serious and bam, insta favorite.
I'll keep trying this time, I have nothing else to play anyway.
Is anyone here using the HD texture pack at nexus? People seem to be divided between "looks awesome and works awesome!" and "looks good but runs like shit!".
Haven't they released an .exe or program that easens things up with the settings of the game?.. In other words, a "DSFIX" BUT WITH AN USER INTERFACE....AND WORKING.Actually updated or something.
I might give this game a 3rd try but...I prefer "The good stuff to happen" in a graphics related term..

I really doubt that they'll do any good. Just take dsfix and a fix for the low font resolution. The game won't look any better with the HD texture pack because it lacks proper shadowing, lighting and polygon count. It has a nice atmosphere and very refined gameplay. Concentrate on those and just accept that the graphics look like poo most of the time. It's the art style that is good
Would a 7970 + 3570 be able to run the game at 60fps with the extra options in dsfix enabled? I usually only unlock the fps, force AF via drivers and leave everything else at stock in the dsfix.ini.
