Definitely consolified in this instance. There is absolutely no reason to limit a PC hotbar to 8 slots, other than the fact that the consoles are limited to 8 (2 sets of 4).

You're going to wait until they hack some extra active abilities in it?

The problem in Divinity:OS was that it was not customizable enough (in that there could not be multiple or larger hotbars). However it's not an mmo and in no way did they try to limit it. They even expanded it from 3 to 5 switchable hotbars in an update. This means 50 usable abilities, and you can use any ability from the spellbook.

DAIII maxing the total amount of abilities you can use to 8 is a totally different story. This is intentionally consolfied design because consoles can only use 8 abilities (4 buttons + a modifier/switch) easily. Also, it's been confirmed that these need to be selected before each mission and nothing can be used from the spellbook.

Not bashing to bash, just hate these types of restrictions because they want to equalize pc to consoles. PC has more possibilities, so ffs if you're releasing a game on PC allow the players to use them. But nooo balancing this takes too much time/effort and puts console players at a disadvantage, so PC is limited...

I'll just wait for when it's hacked so I can use all the abilities I've unlocked all the time. If this makes it easier I'll play on higher difficulty or w/e.

How do you KNOW they won't have additional hotbars just like Divinity? Instead of having an arrow to click on the hotbar to switch between them they could easily have a keybind to change them... Nowhere have they once said that you can ONLY use 8 abilities at a time, you're only going by what you've seen in a single screenshot which can also be subject to change by the time the game is released if they actually have limited the number of abilities on a hotbar(which I doubt).

Yes they have said this. Post from 1 page before quoted below, then click the link to read Mike Laidlaw's twitter comments on this.

Lol, hilarious. Apparently the PC interface is locked to 8 abilities at a time (same as console - they toggle between two sets of 4).

I guess we know what the number one mod will be, if it turns out the UI can be edited.

What makes you think they will change it? No one here trust Bioware, and specially not when Mike Laidlaw is in charge. And for good reasons too.

I'm going to lock my steering wheel so it only turns in one direction. I'll have to choose whether I want to be able to turn either left or right before starting a trip, which should introduce a real tactical element to my driving.

well, in that sense, I could probably be wanking off during the entire game to distract from the annoyance of only having 8 active abilities as I only need to use my mouse Laughing

This game is perfect for that, because Bioware added characters of every sexual preference!

So, accept your characters for who they are. They didn't choose their active ability limit, they were born that way.

You need to wiggle your joystick at the elves to make them join your party, then when they're ready to join you push your thruster all the way forward to make them O-face and unlock an extra combat ability.

I don't have pedals, I wish I had though.

I think I won't even bother playing it with a "tactical pause". It would be... wrong. Kinda like forcing 50 cent to play Moonlight Sonata. Very Happy

That's a straight up action game. Instead of mobs spawning out of thin air like in Dragon Age 2, they pop up far apart, so you just have to run to them now. It almost looks tedious. Kill this one, oh there's another, and another, and another. No point in team tactics when your team is still trying to catch up while you're slashing away at the next monster.

Dragon Age Origins broke up most of its battles into individual skirmishes, so it had good pacing. Really hectic, sometimes quick, encounters with breathing room inbetween.

Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition seem to struggle finding that same balance. Well, not struggle. More like they don't want to make Origins again because they're obsessed with catering to the bros that just want to mash buttons and see shit blow up. Too bad that same audience has the attention span of a flea, so their loyalty is short term at best.

This game will go down in history as nothing more than "that other fantasy RPG" people played while waiting for Witcher 3.

I don't think you can conclude much about the tactical combat from that video. The guy doesn't use it, he plays it as a hack and slash.

Anyway, I think I'm going to enjoy this game very much. This might be my surprise hit since it obviously has had much more effort than DA2

I wish I could be this optimistic. One of thing I love from Bioware games are companions. My first impression of the ones in DAI, terrible. Its not even about who they are, or who wrote them, etc. It like one of those feelings where you feel like you can't see yourself getting along with them. Right now I'm actually thinking about playing the game in easy and just go solo. At least I know I'll get along with my own character.

From what I've 'heard' you don't even need to worry about the tactical (pause/top down) view on the easy to normal difficulties, having to micro-manage multiple party-members on a per move basis is an acquired taste kind of deal.

So apparently straight male characters only have 2 romance options. Meanwhile straight female has 4. 3 for gay male and 2 for lesbians.

So I guess their demographic changed? Or do everyone play female characters nowadays?

Not that is a problem to play female or gays, but I was expecting equality rather than complete bias after all the talks in recent years.
