PostPosted: Mon, 7th Jul 2014 14:16    Post subject: General Indie/Niche Game Thread
The number of games being released on Steam is crazy, and making threads for each individual one is, I think, just as crazy. So, I was thinking that we should have a general thread for smaller games that take our eye and that we can discuss, in the same way that we have a general bundle thread now.

Lock/Delete if I'm being wrong-headed. Smile

Otherwise, I'll start... All of these are on my Steam Wishlist, so I don't know how they play yet. If anyone's bought them, what're they like?

Asteria (a Terraria/Turrican cross-over style game):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/307130

Super Toy Cars (a 3D Micro Machines-esque game):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/116100

And Slitherine are releasing their wargames on Steam

Civil War 2 (American Civil War):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/306630

Panzer Corps (WW2):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/268400

I'm kicking myself for not buying Civil War 2 when the store page first appeared. They made a pricing mistake - base game and expansion for £22.49, instead of the correct £31.99. Sad

Also, I've heard Slitherine are massively opposed to discounts and sales. Panzer Corps wasn't discounted at all during the Summer Sale, so I'm not holding out much hope for any of their games being much cheaper in the future.

The first one Laughing, but it actually looks good and like fun.

The third one: I don't even know what kind of game it is?! Says adventure/indie/casual, but that trailer shows like no gameplay..

Yeah, only reason I have Wayward Manor wishlisted is because Neil Gaiman's involvement. Will probably just wait til it's 90% off. Action Henk looks like a real laugh, but I'll wait to properly see what the tracks are like first - it'll live or die on them. Smile

There was a metroid style game announced some times ago, with really beautiful 16bits pixels graphics. I think you controlled two characters, but I'm really not sure about this. Does this rings a bell to anyone?? I can't remember the name at all!

After complaining a few posts up that Slitherine weren't going to discount any of their games, Panzer Corps has gone on sale:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/268400/

50% Off base game, no discount on the DLC. Weeklong, so ends 21st July.

(Not really for the game itself though, I just found the forum posts fun to read - http://steamcommunity.com/app/312970/discussions/ )

I guess Steam is being more open with games like this now which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

EDIT: In other news these last couple of months have seen more and more "indie" classed games released on Steam, pretty amazing how much is released really.
http://store.steampowered.com/genre/Indie/

If you sort out the DLC the entire list (100 entries.) goes from Today the 22nd to the 1st.
(So a hundred releases this month alone.)

Gods Will Be Watching:

RPS's Wot I think about it here:

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/07/24/wot-i-think-gods-will-be-watching

(As I thought, it seems like it's not going to live up to the hype/expecations. But I got it for, like, 3.5 Keys, so it's not all bad).

Asteria (mentioned in the first post) is on a Weeklong Sale on Steam. -81% (£1.32). If you're even vaguely interested, it's worth it at that price. Smile

Yea, seeing how bad of an image Early Access games get, that asked price is way too much

Who knows how long it will be in EA, or if it ever leaves it

Also on my wish list:

Subnautica: http://store.steampowered.com/app/264710/

Homebrew vehicle sandbox: http://store.steampowered.com/app/325420/

I don't want to jump on these games too early and lose interest.

Great thread idea btw Pixieking
