For the first time ever, Hellraid will be shown publicly after its transition to Chrome Engine 6 ( Techland’s proprietary next-gen engine that also fuels Dying Light), tomorrow, September 16th, at 10:00 AM PDT streamed live on Twitch. http://www.twitch.tv/techland
I'm not quite sure what they were showing on Twitch today (stream is down and I haven't seen a mirrored host yet) but -- we've already seen the Chrome6 footage, no?
This was posted a month ago on the previous page. So if that was the Chrome6 footage .. what were they "publicly" showing today?
That was the same area they showed today, but a different playthrough, it was prerecorded. (It's the beginning of the game.) Then they re-showed the older engine playthrough of the catacomb level again, that was the whole stream. They were also answering questions in chat. They said the game was mostly linear with a few sidequests and no random levels although some mobs and loot was random. They also stated it was more action orientated than story driven and it was 8-10 hour long campaign.
Yea can't say I care much about a linear game. One of my biggest problem with Dark Messiah was that there weren't enough Dark Messiah I have hoped for a non-linear (doesn't matter if its sandbox, open world, randomly generated) first person melee game set in fantasy setting since Dark Messiah. I thought Oblivion would be it, it wasn't as good in combat. Although I don't like zombie, I was hoping Dead Island could have had good combat at least. It didn't.
I guess Hell Raid isn't the one I have been waiting for either.
isn't it supposed to be online one like Dead Island so playing offline makes little to none sense?
Dead Island had 4 player co-op but was absolutely fine playing in single-player. Same with this; you can play co-op if you want, but you can also play solo.
Project Hell : Gay Raid Demonic Lust Possession Edition. I'll only buy it if has gay naked manwhore demons, and also duke nukem in the game also - and will buy for metal case, and free sub to playboy, and demon porn dvd's.. i will pay $500 even though it will be a b grade game with a 2/10 score from ign
A little disappointed to hear that it's linear and 8-10 hour campaign. If the devs/publishers are saying it's 8-10, that probably means it's actually shorter.
Since when is there no sense in playing SP offline...?
Have you played Dead Island in singlelayer? You might as well play L4D2 in singeplayer with bots, what the fucking point? There is no fun in it. it is boring crap.
Well, unless you have such taste for such kind of shallow gameplay. Can' argue here.

Exactly what I was thinking, too. Perhaps my expectations were too high to begin with. Dark Messiah was something so brilliantly well-packed and balanced that it's incredibly hard to replicate.
But as long this Hellraid comes up with a satisfying melee combat (i.e. not some clicky-click-based stuff) and a level design that is not too repetitive, I can see myself enjoying this game a lot, even with its limitations.
@Kein: Personal taste-aside, that's not a fair comparison, to be honest. Dead Island is mostly exploration-based, with loot and crafting, plus quests/side-quests and slower pace. It actually became semi-realistic with mods that increased the difficulty.
I still can't understand why people being disappointed by any game if it's linear... there is NOTHING wrong with that. Good fucking riddance, we have too many shallow open-world/sandbox games.

Doesn't mean a linear game is going to have depth either. One of the thing Dark Messiah had despite its linearity was options and interactions. There a lot of objects you can interact with all over the levels. It is not just swing your sword around. Combine that with interesting spells (not just shoot different elemental bolts), stealth mechanic, rope arrows that could attach to almost anything, unlike Tomb Raider. You have an interesting game that varies itself at the base mechanical level, no need for CoD set pieces to offer variety. That makes the linear experience fun to play and reasons to replay the game.
This game however reminds me of Lichdom. For the sake of my point, let's say Lichdom has great combat, but what else is there? There's nothing else. No exploring, bad story, no progression beyond RNG items, and no reason to ever replay the game. That's my problem with these kind of linear games. It is the same reason why people don't replay CoD campaigns, but will always replay Deus Ex. It is not just the linearity, but the other mechanics that tie in with the combat.
Hellraid's combat looks promising, and there are currency for whatever reason, but what else is there? Will there be an arena so I can actually enjoy the combat without having to repeat levels, listening to the same voice acting over and over again? Will there be a NG+ where the encounters are different than before? Why would I even want to finish this game when I have already experienced what the combat has to offer after the tutorial?
That's why I'm no longer excited about this game after they've confirmed that it is linear.

Yeah... no.

well they have over 100 of skills in skill tree (no sure about percantage of actives in that)
PS: comparing lichdom to CoD in level of complexicity is wrong on so many levels
Whatever complexity it has doesn't matter when it reality they all do the same thing. In Lichdom, your spells are still bolts, ray, lob, nova, pool, etc. That doesn't change. What changes are the stats and destruction, mastery, control. Which I don't find interesting at all. It felt like playing a hotkey MMO, just apply my debuff then blast them, rinse and repeat. You can have all the stats altering you want, but if the player is still the same thing over and over, I don't consider that good complexity.
As for 100 skills...Are we talking Dead Island skills or Fallout Perks? Are those 2% increase crit chance or are they new moves? If its just stats increase, that's just numbers. That's hardly progression when the enemies will go stronger as you progress the levels anyway.
tbh I would be fine even with something like heretic\hexen\witchaven without any skill trees and stuff like that lichdom kinda disappointed me in this regard.
