Meh, feeling down, i should have never stopped college, those 2 years i lost have taken quite a chunk out of my life....
A Coordinator (Management, $$$$) position at work opened up and i worked with the guy that left for years, then i went to Programming and i still supported his work, im THE guy to talk to about what is done in that position (formulas, validations, management of taxes in the programming side) soooo i saw the contest for position and i applied.
2 weeks went by and i have not heard anything.... then i was told that one of the new guys who worked under the guy who left, applied too and he was called from HR to interview. He is graduated i think and young and since the other guy left they consult me and i do the work that needs to be done to make things work. You can imagine how i felt when i heard that. 8 years working arent enough to be appreciated there.
So yea, i have never gotten that so damn wished raise of salary (to get the same salary as my coworkers, i do the same job and get payed less because im a student) and now i dont get the position that i fit the most. Makes me feel like im fucked until i graduate.
This has really affected me, this means im stuck with the same salary and things just get more and more expensive, means im not worth shit there since they CAN make it happen they just dont do shit to make it, they could recommend me and nothing, hell i even talked with the big boss, he KNOWS im the one who knows this shit and still, nothing happened. sweet.
Oh well, tomorrow ill talk to my boss or the big one, ill express how i feel about waiting 8 months for a raise just hearing "im asking HR, im waiting for their answer" meanwhile my life deteriorates in burdens, how i do the same job as everyone for years and still nothing, how i manage the most delicate procedures there and look, nothing.
If im not even interviewed for the position, im going to clear cut support to them, they want to create a new tax? validation? formula? good. thats ur job, my job is programming. Sad thing is that i know those guys who work there, but i will tell them clearly its not against them, i just cant do that work, they will understand how i feel about how im treated (hell, they supported me to apply to the position, oh well)
This is my life, luckily this will soon end, i will graduate and ill start a masters, and ill be able to ASK for the first time in my life and choose damnit.

Sounds like my old job.
All my colleagues got paid in class 15 (it's a wage system we have in Belgium) and I didn't know until 3 years later that I was paid in class 1 and was grossly underpaid. I found out when they were going to drop the shift fees which took my monthly wage so low I could no longer live off it.
So I discovered that I was supposed to be paid class 15 (= 40% higher wage) except they screwed with my contract and made it out that I was a common worker and for common workers, the minimum class is indeed 1. I got angry, and they said I'd get class 12 in "steps". 2 classes higher every month. So after half a year I had class 12 but was still paid 10% less than my co-workers.
When the company went bankrupt, I found a new job for class 16 almost immediately and I get all sorts of fringe benefits because they're worried I'll leave. It just goes to show - if you're really good at what you do, people will want to pay for it too.

Companies shouldn't look at degrees. I mean fuck, if you've been doing a kick ass job for the past couple of years for them that's all they need to know. It's not like you're applying for a new job, you're basically just wanting a proper wage for something you already do. Fuck those guys man.

Nobody looks for degrees or certificates in BG.
Everyone gives you a task at the interview, and judges how you deal with it.
Also past experience influences on their view of how serious you are to stick to 1 job.

Ive been there for 7 years now, i handle a lot of sensible stuff there, i even handled the work from that position as a help to my friend, the to-go guy was me, i got the official rejection letter last week. Even the new guy on the area that sort of knows his stuff got rejected too.
I mean this job is a mix of programming, behaviour of taxes, knowledge of how the system programs the taxes and extremely deep formulas, and they rejected both persons who know how to work that. I dont even know what they are thinking.... but they sure as fuck lost my respect, i wont be helping them EVER with anything unrelated to my position.
Funny thing is that the boss of the Datacenter, was a guy that got hired to work with sharepoint, and he didnt know shit of it, then all of sudden he got promoted to boss, he didnt even had a year there.
So there u go, politics and dumb bureaucracy. Ill just focus on my studies and my position. Whatever. Ill gtfo of this country as soon as i get my masters.

You need to suck more dick (ie, go to lunch, dinner, smoke and food breaks, watch some football, car races, etc out with the bosses, and instead of doing your actual work spend at least 50% of your time near the bosses too). At least that's how it works here

U think i dont know that? The guy i mentioned that got promoted to boss? He had less than a year, knew one of the bosses and licked every bosses ass, one time he was found crying because he didnt know how to do his job in sharepoint, and look how shit turned out for him, BOSS, oh yes and he knows jackshit about datacenter management, all the underlings do his work.
Sadly i dislike doing that, and look where its got me to. Fuck me.
What cha think about that mateeeee.

That it's quite common all over the world is what I think.
I'm asocial so I hate any form of networking... but it is a necessary evil if you want to get somewhere.
Tho cases where incompetent people get chosen over qualified people is rare over here.

That sucks so bad. Id be so resentful of where I worked after that.
I agree no one should look at degrees.
My company has hired a handful of "they got nice degrees" employees and they never lasted long..no experience, only book smarts.
I got lucky with my job, Im an application engineer, with no college for it AT ALL (I took architecture), and no school work period to show I knew anything about it (I didn't finish high school or college I had shit happen that I had to leave in 12th grade while doing 1/2 school 1/2 college so I got a weird situation of no high diploma and yet 1 1/2 year of college still).
On paper I was a no body, with no proof of anything. Got hired by show of competence and speed/willingness to learn.
Sadly I think those days are gone, no one does that anymore. They hire off what papers you can show signed from a college, and how many certificates with acronyms like MCSE you own. And promote off that and who you are good friends with

yeah... real life is fucking bitch.
it happens the same for me, i work for a well known law firm and i'm being payed the same amount from 2 years back, won many trials with important sums and didn't see a penny from that...
so im right now in the stage of having to make a decision: either i continue alone and try luck; or i have to continue to eat this shit till the boss says its over...
of course, in the meanwhile, i have to take clients and make my own, which i've started around 4 months ago, but its a damn slow process.
