Well, method #1 hasn't panned out for me. Can someone clarify how to run this with WinXP SP1.
Quote: | Don't select any profile. Only enable Buffer Underrun Protection. |
Hmm, don't see any 'profile' option in alcohol.
Quote: | When Alcohol request TOC, leave TOC unmodified "First Option" (reccomended choice) |
Never see anything about TOC when burning.
Quote: | Run the copy with a cdrom/dvdrom reader. Don't use a burner if it is not a Plextor, in which case you have to use Plextools and use the "Enable Hide CD-R Media" option |
Ok, so does this mean there is no way to play this with a DVD-Writer?
Any suggestions would be great.

Just so no one loses hope I wanted to post I was able to get the game working, and I didn't have to unplug any of my drives.
I'll try to answer a couple of the questions people asked. Cybtropic, just try to launch the game and it installs the starforce drivers, then you restart your pc and continue following instructions.
As a note, I didn't notice SFN being packaged with this release, so you will need to go download it. Hope this helps.

The same way you always do with sfcure, except that you also unplug the IDE cable from your dvd/cd drive.

Just like the nfo said.. =)
First you need XP SP2.
IDE PCI drivers must be os standard.
unpack itw-tools.rar and run !setup.bat and reboot.
Mount and install.
Try and start the game to get the installation of starforce drivers unless you already have them installed from a previous game.
Skip the update part because drivers are already up to date.
from itw-tools run !start (this will start the starforce "cure")
Then you can either get sfn.rar and run sfnightmare and disable everything accordingly to the nfo or you can physically unplug the drive. I choose the latter one because i think i missed a step in sfnightmare.. i did after all do this in the middle of the night and was pretty out of it.
Start game and enter cdkey and it should work.. mind you that i could not get it working from Alcohol, only from Daemon tools.

Isn't it more simple to disable the IDE port in the bios?

Hmmz, just to note something more there.. Well basicly for example if you do as the NFO says it works, but on Virtual Device when you have disabled the devices as NFO says the Virtual device has to be on place where the Physical CD/DVD drive you have was before.
Dunno if this info is correct but my sets were G: as Virtual CD drive & H: as Physical and it does not work if H: is disabled and UFO DVD is still on G: drive it has to be changed to H: as replace of physical drive.

Seems that it doesn't work in Win2000, tried removing the DVD-drive, tried to hide node with SFnightmare.
Tried to change IDE-drivers to Generic drivers, that didn't change much (what does that help anyway?).

That's very interesting.. Since none of Starforce 3 games have worked with my systems with out this specific change of drives. Might be that since I always use Virtual Drive as first after HDDs that might cause the problems.. (This is since some Old games doesn't understand 2 CD-Drives). Either way as I said I was just mentioning this because since nothing else worked this got my stuff working good.

Starfoce protection system allways stops responding when its "Checking Disk.." and then it tells me that "The Disk Key you entered doesnt correspond to the disk in the drive. Make sure you use the ciorrect Disk Key" Strange becuase i enterd it like in the nfo. Iv'e started sfcure, unpuged my dvd burner, tryed dtools and alcohol and still the same thing. What else could i try?

Try what TheWarlord said and make your virtualdrive the same unitname as your physical drive usually is.. i'm not sure what good it would do but it obviously worked for him.
And you are sure that sfcure is enabled? if you just run the batfile from windows explorer you wont see if it display any errors, so run the batfile from a command prompt.

I don't know about UFO (in progress...) but for other SF-Clone this method works greats with my DVD Writer Plextor :
1. Run Alcohol 120% and select Burn Image. Select .mdf file
2. Pick RAW/DAO, 4x speed between writing options
3. Use securom NEW profile (Don't use Securom new 4/5, make sure RMPS is off)
4. When Alcohol request TOC, leave TOC unmodified "First Option" (reccomended choice)
5. Run the copy with a cdrom/dvdrom reader. Don't use a burner if it is not a Plextor, in which case you have to use Plextools and use the "Enable Hide CD-R Media" option
6. Install the game, and reboot if needed (due to starforce drivers)
7. Launch the game and have fun
Maybe with a DVD SF Clone...

you need xp with sp2, as stated in the nfo, and you need that for most sf releases these days.

Yeah, that really doesn't make sense.
Could someone explain what it is that requires WinXP and SP2?
Because first of all, i have played other SF-releases and second it doesn't make sense that it needs any kind of update when you remove your drive then revert to generic drivers etc (in other words you're using old shit).
There shouldn't be OS requirements on a release if the original doesn't require it, that's just lame ripping.

ok let's put it this way... atm is possible to choose between 2 options: a- play the game with sp2 b- don't play the game at all. u can add the third one c- buy the game.
your choice
