Good or functional ? Can someone elaborate on the extra features compared to shogun 2 besides unit diversity ?

IMO good as in I enjoy playing it. I still think Shogun 2 is better, but I also play the crap out of that and now I want a different setting. I can't tell you objectively since I also play with mods without checking what features that mod has. I just install it and go in blind and have fun.

“We’re reintroducing some features that fans have been asking for, such as family trees and skill trees, and improving many of the core aspects of Total War we know are important to them."

"But to really bring the period to life, we’re building on these foundations with many new strategic features for them to consider, such as advanced street-fighting, civilians, complete settlement destruction and dynamic fire that can rage across a city as armies clash. We want to push players to the limits of their skill to survive against the odds, and to love every minute of it.”

Re-selling Rome II.

The wait for the next Total War game continues. I guess we'll get something in 1-2 years.

They name it after Attila, but turns out you can't play as him or his faction. From the IGN write-up:

Quote:
Attila and his forces are not a faction in the traditional sense and can’t be played. They’re more like a force of nature that sweeps across the map, destroying and spoiling everything they touch.

I wonder how they're going to name the DLC. Attila Total War: Attila 4real

"Force of nature that sweeps across the map" makes me think it'll be like the Golden Horde invasion in Medieval 2. They should make it more interesting and give a chance for factions to be absorbed into the Huns, forcing players to make alliances and respond to threats quickly.

yahmmmmm they keep making the same game since Empire. CA must be a very boring place to work.
Wish they evolved the combat experience maybe Adding some kind of Operational level to it. Or at list some proper logistics.
But no, lets just re-skin add bugs and ship it.

Playing Rome 2 during the free weekend has made me even less interested in the future of the TW franchise. Damn that game is ugly, there are so many jaggies and so much flickering that you'd think the game was running at 800x600. And that's with everything as high as it goes except depth of field which is turned off.

Graphics aren't everything, they are usually a very small part to me but the game doesn't seem to have much else going for it either. The gameplay seem very bland so far compared to the original RTW or M2TW.

The flickering is obnoxious, older games like Rome and Medieval 2 had much cleaner image quality. I also don't understand why they didn't include MSAA since it was in Shogun 2 which uses the same engine. The only way to somewhat improve the graphics is with the GEM mod.

My hopes aren't massively high, but I'm hoping this is to Rome 2 what Napoleon was to Empire.

What did Napoleon add to Empire, exactly? I'm asking because the former is the only game I don't own; regardless, I've had no major complaints about the latter, either.

It just kinda polished most of the rough edges off and added a few nice things.

Edit: Worth adding that quite a lot of the Napoleon improvements were backported to Empire.

Way to accept and encourage mediocrity, folks. In my opinion Creative Assembly has to up their game, and that's putting it mildly.

Where is the accepting and encouraging?
Haven't seen anyone talk of throwing money at it so far.

Exactly, the fact that people here are acknowledging that Rome 2 is a truly good game in its current state after the shitload of patches and added content doesn't mean we would go and pre-order their next game. It's become very clear that one should wait around 8 months to 1 year after release before touching the product.

It's just that some people can only think in binary Laughing

Now about this new Attila title, it looks like a bigger expansion for Rome 2 to me
