i do not know about your specific problem but i can give you a good suggestion, turn off the automatic reboot that xp has by default.
right click "my computer", select properties. then the advanced tab, and properties for "start/restore" (not 100% sure about that name), then uncheck the "reboot automatically". you should now get atleast an error message or a bluescreen with information about the error.

Well yea but never had that prob what you describe there. Sounds like a bad file or somet or simply your comp is freaking out, sorry mate but like I said I played COD2 for 2 days now and no prob what so ever. I think I got 1 level left of the British campaign and prob 3-4 of the American.

I'm having some serious performance probs here! even when i choose the optimal settings i get like 5-11 fps in some desert missions, what the fuck is this alll about I use the latest forcewar: 81.85 and so on! amd 64 3200+ 6800gt oc to ultra and 1gig of corsair twinX should be able to run this game i think! I', pretty shure thaey are going to have to release a patch adressing the dX9 rendering issues since this is gay! Of all the things i've lost, i miss my mind the most! "Ozzy Osbourne" _ _ _ _ _

Well I got the exact same specs though only with 3400+ and my 6800GT aint overcloaked and I play this with Optimal settings though with only bilinear textures set "Why don't you zip it, Zipfero?" - fraich3

a patch would be great, where Dx9 features are optimized.
it has much more atmosphere with all the gfx sweets cranked up

i have maybe a nice find for you ollax:

here you can download some new nVidia beta drivers 81.87 which are specially optimized for call of duty. i hope you are lucky and they help you out alittle bit.

go here: nVidia.forceware.81.87.BETA.optimized.for.CoD2

edit: i hope ATi will follow nVidia A.S.A.P. and do some driver tuning! Mad

anyone had a problem where you have to place 3 explosives on a building so you can get to the top level but after you palce 3rd explosive nothing happens. star on minimap is still where 3rd explosive is and nothing more can be done?

all righty i solved my problem. i cant understand why it happend right now not earlier but hmmm fuck it i tried couple of things and got pissed off and then i runed game oin safe mode and stardted to switching graphic options one at a time... turned out that at this level (d-day mission one) i dunno why but DX 9 fucked up things. so i stayed with DX 7 which is hmm not so bad and my performance is much better (higher resolution, AA and anisotropic filtering blah blah ) so i switched off this DX 9 shit and now im playing on DX 7. graphics is not important so much after all. ah and this happend on radeon 9600 pro if someone wonders AMD 64 3800+ ~2.7Ghz, 2GB Ram, GF 7800gs + bliss 512 RAM...
