Damn that fucking deduction system for heightening my paranoia and thereby choosing the most complex outcome imaginable. |
God fucking dammit. Just when I thought I was a good detective.
Spoiler: | So it wasn't a double conspiracy murder? That little fisherman shit was annoying regardless, I'm glad I locked his whiny deflecting ass up. |

My take on it was this......
Spoiler: |
The kid's long missing father (along with his fortune) was murdered one night on the ship by the victim - this is according to the drunken sailor's story. Given that he had no idea who I was, and the fact that he was drunk, I believed him. Why would he lie at that point?
The kid hears of his father's murder (and comes looking for his riches), enlisting the help of the gardener that was fucking the victim's wife. Now they both have something to gain by killing the guy (kid gets revenge/possible rightful fortune, gardener gets the wife).
They sneak in there while our good captain is all liquored up, grab a spear off the wall, heave ho', where there's a will there's a way (and all that ) and stick him to the wall.
|
Makes perfect sense to me still. I don't know how I could have gotten it so wrong given that the game actually TOLD me I had found all the clues.
Was I supposed to ....
Spoiler: |
Interrogate the drunken sailor back at the station or something? The game told me I had found all available clues so I assumed I was to make a deduction and finish it before stepping out of the pub. What did I miss?

That was my take on it too. There are very few flaws in that train of thought.
As for the second spoiler, no idea. Mind you I didn't even get to the sailor part. It's pretty cool how the game doesn't force you to do it either. I decided to conclude the case based on the fact that the motives checked out, and I didn't need a bunch of drunken sailors diluting the case.
I have to say I love this game. The evidence system is pretty great, mini games are dynamic and interesting so far (save a few), deduction system adds much needed depth (the brain neuron logical connection interface is refreshing), plus the UE3 engine makes facial animations incredibly realistic. Makes LA Noire look like Toy Story.

you are both wrong regarding the first case
even if you find all the clues you have like 4-5 different outcomes but only one is the real one.

Spoiler: | In the first case the strength needed to throw the harpoon pretty much excludes the kid and the gardener. And the sailor was a harpooner lol. |

In my first try, I said the boy was guilty.
I figured the victim stole the boy's father's valuepapers after he killed him on the sea. When the papers resurfaced, he went there to claim them and killed the victim in self defense when he got violent (he was drunk and had a knife).
From the evidence, it wasn't obvious at all the sailor did it. There was only circumstantial evidence (the tobacco only proves he was there, comparable to the evidence against the boy), and during the tests Sherlock was able to throw the harpoon through the pig, despite his lack of strength/skill.
During a second playthrough, I noticed that Sherlock gives subtle hints. For example, after the interviewing the gardener, he says it's a false lead.

But after he throws the harpoon Sherlock himself says, that someone really strong and skilled had to have done it. Also if you haven't read SH, he's good at everything and quite strong.

The deduction system is excellent. All cases had at least 2 possible solutions and I really had to go back and examine the clues and conversations again to find that little nugget that tipped me in the right direction. I only wish the game didn't hold my hand as much as it did - it was way to easy to gather the clues.

About the gardens case
Spoiler: | I guess I missed something because I accused the son for the murder while it was the bitch. I mean it was obviously that the professor was the killer but his partner was supposed to be the son. What was the reason that made the girl to assist the professor? Besides the fact that the victim was giving her free stuff and was about to fire her, there was nothing else. While the son was treated like piece of shit, publicly humiliated, restricted to go to the Naval school, etc. I guess I missed something major because it doesn't make sense the girl to be the partner of the professor. |

You're halfway through. IMO the best case in the game is still to come.
