Makes sense they would make a statement like that. It's clear consoles are seriously underpowered this gen. It's just damage control to make console users believe that their expectations of current gen have been met and not disappoint them. Of course we all know, and some console users, that it is complete BS.

This week, gamers accused Ubisoft of keeping the frame rate and resolution down to these numbers to avoid the PS4 having a graphical advantage, but Nicolas Guérin, World Level Design Director on Unity, told TechRadar that the decision was partly to give the game more of a cinematic gloss - though did admit that it was also tough to achieve.
"At Ubisoft for a long time we wanted to push 60 fps. I don't think it was a good idea because you don't gain that much from 60 fps and it doesn't look like the real thing. It's a bit like The Hobbit movie, it looked really weird. |
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Plz drop 1080p standard, too hard to run on system. 800x600 is elite duh |
oh... oh where to begin...
900p gives it a cinematic gloss does it? 900p is optimal for making a really amazing visual experience and isn't solely because you cant get it to run well?
and 60 fps doesnt make it look real? like hobbit? i was under the impression that people hated it precisely BECAUSE it made it look too real... shit, i wasn't aware that my movements in real life were limited to 30 fps... but hey, now i know... thats why i look real, because my movements are synced to 30 fps... everyone knows you cant see more than 30 with the eye anyway, right?
seriously, this guy is talking out of his ass... but its amusing because he KNOWS he is, i can just imagine him squinting and gritting his teeth as he says it, thinking "No way... no way is anyone going to buy this... but in for a penny, in for a pound, if i say the lie enough, people will believe it... just keep on talkin' bullshit, believe your own nonsense... just make it through this interview and then have a drink and a little cry..."
but i can tell you one thing....
console gamers will believe this shit.
just like they believed 30 fps was the max we could see, and 1080p wasn't all that important anyway because you cant see more detail than you do at half that... fucking primitives...

@Azor.Ahai
Good one.
But alas that console poop spills over to the PC part as well.

Um fps in movies and games is something different entirely.
As has been pointed out over and over again, this is just bullshit because the next-gen consoles have shit for hardware and can't run games properly, so they are hiding behind these excuses.
Moving on.

Not really. Movies only have a constant frametimes going for them and can have natural motionblur. Other than that, movies also stutter like hell.

and it drives me fucking insane too. It's like nobody ever notices it but I can't do anything BUT notice. Any kind of scene panning judders like crazy, stuttering every few seconds.
