why would there ever be open beta?

They have thousands of active alpha/beta testers who actually payed for the privilege.

There would literally be no point.

I am disgusted by the video

Not because of what it looks like or will be, but because whoever did the music for it took the baseline and tempo of eve onlines background typical beat and sound to use in this.

No its not the actual music but it is a representation of the exact same tune, probably used in this case to lure the brain of eve players into it.

Dont bother replying if you have not at least played eve online long enough to notice what I have said.

It's from a dude called stellardrone, he's actually quite well known and respected in the ambient music and synth geek community. I guess there's just something that makes laid back 80 bpm beats universally appealing to spacey chillout music.

Got an example of the eve music you're meaning, I'm just curious Smile

It's not an official video nor an official theme of the game.
So, no reason to be disgusted Smile

I doubt that's the reason. I wouldn't be surprised if most long time eve players play without sound. And if eve players start playing that game it's because it's a space game and not the music.

EVE players don't like ED - not enough spreadsheets.

not my fault u all play eve without sound while only having another screen playing some porn or something Very Happy

I had no idea if it was official or not, it clearly was not an issue either way, the point was the temp and style of the music was very sim that is all to some of the music i hear in eve.

something like this would suit

true, but at least in a lot of past updates there are now sound sliders for every sound effect/type available for adjustment.

You are not up with installed servers on ones client fooling the application that its credentials have been accepted then. Been done with apache server and purchasing with credit cards, same thing, all it needs is verification. Its not that its not possible its that very little people have done it.

Of course if its mp bases its pointless.

Shouldnt be too hard, as theres a fully working singleplayer mode. Just needs a fake verification, as moose mentioned.

nope
a lot of the game logic is serverside
the world economy, item and ship purchases, etc
would need to rewrite all that locally too
not impossible but not as simple as just authentication

Beta 3 phase incoming on october 28th. Multiple ownership and mining ... Containing 2,406 star systems, including 4,181 stars and 24,918 planets. Yet it represents only a little over half a millionth of one per cent of the full game to be launched later this year! Smile

Yeah I'm very up Smile It can be played solo, but it still requires internet access to get all star system data, market info, news, etc etc...

As it's procedural data creating each star system, I believe thats done server side too.

star generation at least is clientside since it couldn't possibly stream the data as fast as i can scroll on the galaxy map
planets could be serverside since i have to click to open systems

I don't know how it is now, in regards to streaming data, but the final ED can be played 100% offline. Thankfully Smile SC has "private servers" if you want to be on your own or just a few friends, but I'm guessing that will still have some kind of enforced server-side checking Sad
