Bioware really should just make everyone bi, like the Sims. This isn't high art, this is a game. The romance is a gameplay mechanic, not part of the story at all. I could see Morrigan's romance in Origin a part of the story, or Bastila in KoToR. But romance in DA2, ME123 don't add anything to the main story, the romance are there to allow players to interact with the characters in multiple ways. Then might as well make it so. Let everyone be bi, don't promote and announce it like it's a big deal, leave it as a gameplay mechanic.
Because IMO unless there are a reason in the story or theme, character's sexual orientation, race, beliefs are purely arbitrarily. If this isn't Brokeback Mountain, then whatever the characters are doesn't matter. It's one thing to want to create a diverse cast, but it s all pandering when you feel you NEED to have a diverse racial group, or sexual orientation.

Making romance not about gender would be a good thing. The problem is, as you said, that Bioware are really forcing it in your face. It's like a game for them to be as politically correct as possible. If they didn't make it a big issue, people wouldn't make as big a deal out of it and wouldn't even notice it since the game would just adjust to how they play.
In ME2 I hooked up with Jack (I love punk girls) and in ME3 I made a female char and hooked up with the coms girl (who stood to the right of you at the galaxy map) but in ME2 it was more subdued while in ME3 you got a gazillion mentions of gay marriages and so on. I don't mind by itself except it felt as if Bioware tried way too hard to be "cool and hip and modern" and it felt cheap and tacky instead.

Completely agreed! Though the obvious fact is, if they did remove the "romance" stuff that was tied to a character and just made everyone bi as a gameplay mechanic, there would be an inevitable backlash about "fuck toys" or "male fantasy objects" since the characters would no longer be fleshed out in their sexuality and character. Meh. Can't win. I really do think BW are going absolutely overboard with the "oh and this character is GAY! You can romance this character! We're so progressive!"
I guarantee we'll see a "non-binary" character soon.

"non-binary" refers to people that don't associate themselves with a specific gender. EDI was designed to be female and she identifies as such, soon we'll have a character with no set pronouns who doesn't identify as male or female.

Well, it's ridiculous to have everyone be bisexual because the NPCs don't have any "choice". So then you could essentially have your character have his way with any NPC he wants. Romance doesn't work this way.
They should make romance depended on player choices/alignment AND some characters should be strictly straight or strictly gay if it fits their demeanor.

But of course the NPC's don't have a choice, you're an all powerful god incarnate or something (You're the main character.) so they don't dare do otherwise, which explains why you could loot anything in the previous two games without anyone daring to speak against it. (And why nobody made fun of the Warden in DA1 if he choose the pig / nugget in the bordello...)

ME3 got a really good example of what I think show what's wrong with Bioware's handle of romance and sexual preference - Cortez. The entire early interaction with him is about his lost spouse, and him getting over it. While I think it was awesome that they wrote a character that deals with the more emotional side of war, he also happens to be gay. But that's not the problem, the problem is (with male Sheppard) when I wanted to comfort him, to interact more with him, learn more about him, it became;
A.Let's be friends only
B. I'm gay so let's romance.
This is actually different to the problem I have in DA2, as DA2 just do surprise butt sex. ME3 is a binary I'm gay or not. Garrus was binary in his growth too. C-sec "follow the rules" vs "renegade". That's what most of the dialogue choices deal with. It wasn't very organic, but that's about something more crucial and complex than I'm gay or not. Cortex didn't have that depth to it, which I feel makes the whole "he is the gay character" more prevalent.

There's a substantial difference between "this game is moddable because the community made custom tools to make it so" and "the developer provided an official SDK to facilitate modding". Only 2 of Bioware's games fall into the latter category, NWN and DAO. All the rest of their games are only moddable because modders found ways to get their content into the game. There was nothing Bioware did to facilitate modding in BG1/2, KOTOR, JE, ME1/2/3, DA2. Inquisition could very well end up "moddable" under those same criteria, assuming there's enough interest and enough talented people to code the required tools. If it ends up with little to nothing in the way of mods, it's almost certainly because the game is too shit to warrant any interest from those capable of creating the necessary tools, rather than some nefarious scheme on Bioware's part to inhibit modding.

finished today dragon age 2 after 2years ( played 40h 2 years ago,got bored, deleted game kept saves ) , continued these past days from where i left off.
what mess, no isometric camera, un customizable characters, boring, same level over and over
don't care much about the decisions you take in the game. i just like the game to be enjoyable and DA2 wasn't. Besides the amount of hours it takes to finish the game, it felt like an expansion.
hopefully DA3 will bring back IsoCamera, customizable characters and a nice story
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

With all this crap about characters sexuality and the crappy second game in mind, I have no interest in this game whatsoever.
In my time pre-release discussions were about gameplay, gfx, content etc. Nowadays, with BW, its about gay-sex.
Just ditch the romancing alltogether and concentrate on gameplay and content.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
