So are your gripes with this game mainly due to the fact that it resembles civ 5 too much?
Meaning that if one hasn't played that so much, this will be a great game?

Anyone else experiencing this bug, where you have to build a resource specific building to gain a level, but the building cannot be build in that city, because the resource is lacking? I have two of those quests at the moment. Really annoying! Hope they will provide a fix soon.

Lack of a final score and a map is a pretty horrible (and lazy) decision. Watching the history of your game and seeing power shifting was always a nice way to end a game. There's already a problem with immersion (diplomacy sucks, and you get zero background of other races), now they removed another motivation to play the game.
Funny how every iteration, they remove some of the features that made the original Civilization awesome.
Civ5 already lacked a lot of features, which is why I hardly ever played it (Civ 4: Beyond the Sword is still the ultimate Civ). Painful to see they were able to cut even more of the good elements.

The game is entertaining enough, my main gripe is goddamn pan asian coop bonus is too damn overpowered. They keep snatching all the wonders, this is just plain annoying.

As I skipped Civ5 mostly, there's plenty of 'new' stuff and it is quite entertaining, yes. Currently having problems keeping health in the green as there's no luxury or tax level to play with.
But I can already see this having less replayability than previous iterations.
I guess they will re-implement the features of previous Civs through DLC, just like they did with Civ5.

I don't know what append. Civ series used to be the one with generic factions, then came Alpha Centauri and bought with it vastly different factions with varied playstiles.
Then entered Civ 5 and it's biggest strength was faction variety. Now with Alpha Centauris spiritual successor, you'd expect even more variety, but somehow, for some weird reason, we are back at generic factions.

There are satellites that create new basic / strategic resources.

There is a supposed workaround for the resolution issue, but it requires editing the registry - don't do it if you don't know what you're doing:
Quote: | Hi all, I have a fix for my setup with an NVidia 680 and an Acer HN274H on Win7. None of the previous software-based solutions worked for me.
The bug is that Firaxis has a limited size buffer for display resolutions. It looks limited to 48 resolution/refresh rate combinations. For users with many refresh rates, they overflow this buffer because of the multiplication of possible refresh rates by possible resolutions. Since I only care about my monitor's native resolution at 1920x1080 (1080p), I modified my Windows registry to only include the native resolution I actually care about. When CivBE then requests my resolutions, they all fit in the limited size buffer.
If other Nvidia users want to try this (potential dangerous, proceed at your own risk) solution, here are the steps to follow. It will only work if you have an Nvidia graphics card:
1. Open regedit (a program for editing the Windows Registry, a database of key-value settings) by opening the start menu and typing "regedit" into the search box and pressing enter.
2. Accept the prompt that this program can modify your computer.
3. Press F3 to bring up the search box, type "NV_Modes" into the text field, and make sure the "Values" checkbox is selected. Press search to find the NV_Modes setting.
4. You will see a table of keys, types, and their current value. The NV_Modes setting controls what resolutions are visible to the driver. Right click the NV_Modes line and select "Modify."
5. You will see a text box with the current value. I recommend copy-pasting this into a new document on your desktop to save the old value so you can restore it once CivBE is fixed. Reinstalling your drivers probably works too, but YMMV.
6. The line begins with a prefix, mine is "{*}S", followed by space-separated resolutions and modes. Find the space-separated substring that matches your desired resolution. Mine is "1920x1080x8,16,32,64". Replace all the text following the prefix with your single, desired substring. My total line becomes: {*}S 1920x1080x8,16,32,64
7. Press "OK" and reboot your computer. If you launch CivBE, you should be able to select your native resolution in fullscreen mode. You'll see others besides the native resolution, as the driver appears to auto-fill "normal" resolutions not in the registry.
Good luck to any who attempt this. It worked for me, but can seriously mess up your system, and you're messing with NVidia's undocumented internals. If anything goes wrong, edit NV_Modes again and paste in the old settings, and it _should_ return your system to the prior configuration, but don't hold me responsible if things go wrong. |

This kind of thing usually goes like this:
Hyped game is a disappointment - people hate on it massively
Game is really not quite that bad - just not that good
Developers improve it through patching/DLC
Psychology dictates that people give the new version an extra break, because the original was hated
Game is better - but people overrate it now, because of psychology.
Developers improve it through patching/DLC
Psychology dictates that since the last version was so praised - they need to hate on it a bit
Game is better - but people underrate it, because of psychology.
At this stage - game is actually quite good and "finished", and you should just ignore opinions and start playing it fresh
