Wow Neon, you just hit the real spot there. Very Happy

The video ixi posted is based on research done by Karim Nader published in 2000. Nader himself quotes Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind in his presentation on TEDxUChicago http://news.uchicago.edu/multimedia/tedxuchicago-2012-karim-nader-memory-manipulation .

It is interesting to see that what neuroscientists say about memories beeing rewritten when recalled, ultimately changing them is very very similar to what psychologists do in therapy. They make the patient recall a certain memory and then rework it, ultimately changing the perception on said memory, eg. creating a new, less terrifying memory of some traumatic event. Neuroscientists like Nader seem to show the material side of the psychologist point of view on memory. In the process they create a pill as a shortcut over the lenghty process of psychologic therapy.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
