its not new, they released a package of the "old" diskette dos version and the later cd windows 95 version. last one does not work without a controller. and thats the reason they packed both into one package
works out of the box with modern os. unless you have 64bit os then you need a fixed installer cause the one on the disc is 16bit which cant be run on 64bit os, just change the exe and install works fine, google will give you that
@VGAdeadcafe: be happy they did. i had almost no hope that there will be a re-release of the cd versions cause lucasarts said it will never run on modern os (a few years ago) and with the studio sold to disney and shutdown it went to 0. gog has modified the files that they run on modern os, which is nice. and wtf you play the pilot proving ground shit? its almost endless, if you finish the course it will take you at least 20 min or so. only bummer is the need of a joystick, since you have so much buttons. pain in the ass to play with a 360 controller cause you have to grad your kb every now and then for different things
Meeehhh spent a bunch of time to get PPJoy and calibrate it and then almost died of boredom in the pilot proving ground race.
The interface is pain-inducing and the cutscenes look cheap as hell, instead of retro. Nope, this isn't for me.
Also, fucking GOG releasing ancient shit without updating them (no widescreen, no mouse support) Fuck off.
*facepalms*
First of all, the DOS version has mouse support. Second of all, it's impossible to tweak games this old. Third of all, this game isn't "ancient shit", it's a true classic. Fourth of all, the interface is just fine - you just need to remember the key presses like with any other space combat game.

They gaved you a real pilot feeling with this combo
I also checked the version from FIGHTCLUB but that one does also not match

Star Wars: X-Wing is being recreated in Unity Engine and looks fantastic, new video released
Quote:
For those not aware, XWVM is a remake of the Star Wars: X-Wing flight engine that reads the original XWing resources (music, graphics, missions) in your GoG XWing game folder, and uses them to play the mission, allowing for modern resolutions, input methods, and even usability improvements that were later added to TIE Fighter and XvT.
This new video shows new explosions, a new HDR lighting system, new planets and sun, a mission selection screen, complete Y-Wing historical mission set, AI improvements and a playthrough of Mission 5.
The XWVM Team plans to release many smaller iterations of the mod to showcase implemented features little by little.
even more to remember how cool these old games were and how shit this current ponzi scheme space game is compared to a wing commander 3-4 and this game
grand scale space battles , each gun emplacement on a big star ship was destructible( yes it was a shitty triangle cone, but it was shooting at u ) , soo freaking immersive , man , just best shit ever, compared to todays dog vomit
we could have had FIFTY new wing commanders with the budget they fucking STOLE from pc gamers
makes me seriously wanna go negan on roberts head ...
better get fast before EA shitheads do a cease n decist
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
