Not sure what you are on about?
Haven't played Beta 3 yet, was waiting for my joystick to arrive (arrived today)

This line from the patch notes makes it sound like you are able to trade with those massive merchant ships that pop up when entering Unidentified Signal Sources sometimes.
The only one I've ever seen, but I've seen it multiple times around the core systems, is a Type 9 called "The Mineral Magpie". In the chat he (the NPC ship) advertises that he is selling/buying goods - but there was no way of trading with him that I could discern.
I'm just wondering whether they've implemented that somehow.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

So Sol will not be immediately available to new players, as this and other selected systems require a permit, gained by building reputation with factions. Alpha and Beta backers get the Sol permit as a reward.

In Elite: Dangerous there will be areas of the game that will not be immediately accessible. Players may have to build a reputation with the governing faction in order to be given a permit to visit an area under their jurisdiction.
The Solar system, which is the star system of the birth of humanity, is restricted in this way. In the year 3300 humanity's homeworld has become a rich playground for the successful, the wealthy, and the powerful and famous. And of course, as a Beta backer, you belong in that set. All visiting commanders will need a permit, granted by The Federation in order to visit Sol or anywhere in the Solar system. However, all Alpha and Beta backers will be given an automatic permit, without having to first earn a reputation with The Federation. (For those of you whose allegiances lie elsewhere this could be a very useful benefit indeed!).
My guess is that it WILL be available immediately. Just that you will get fucked up showing up there since it's Federation controlled space. Until you're friendly with them, expect an ass kicking.
It wouldn't make sense to totally restrict it so that you can't even get there.
Made a post regarding persistence in game at present and got clarified on stuff by other players, must admit the immersion of this game online wise has taken a plummeting for me, just not what I thought it was going to be.
Yeah, there's little-to-no actual "depth" or "immersion" in the game, it really is pretty much just an enormous visual upgrade to the classic Elite. It's not even as advanced as Frontier yet. I'll still play this, happily, especially since it is available completely offline and not neutered or heavily restricted like I fully expect "private server, no offline, haha, mmo, pay us more monies" Star Citizen to turn out like - but yeah, this is Elite through and through. Fly around the galaxy, shoot enemies, trade cargo, shoot more enemies, become "Elite" in ranking. Rinse repeat.
Its just little things like, I head to a location and dump a load of cargo, as soon as I warp off, that cargo vanishes... Why? If a mate goes to collect that cargo he wont find it unless I'm sat in that instance waiting for him.
if I mine a rock and deplete it, then warp out and back, its full again so I can just exploit mining the same rock over and over. If someone visits that location and is placed in a different instance to my own they will be able to mine the same rock... there is no decent sync of the game world between clients so it just feels like a single player game with PVP if you want it and looking at other ships flying around.
There isnt any real interaction or effect on other players.

World persistence is too big of a challenge. Not suited for action games, only for those retarded laggy MMO shitgames with lock-on battles or no collision between players...

Yes it can indeed be played with m/k, and after a little practice it can be most effective. Just remember you will need to use the keyboard quite a bit to control things like throttle, flight assists, power allocation, etc etc. There is a floating mouse indicator that lets you move the ship in that direction, si the amount of control is quite satisfying.

apologize in advance if the question has been asked before.
I know Elite can be played with m/k but is it a huge disadvantage compared to a joystick?
Reason for the question is i have a physical disability which makes a joystick impossible.
From my experience, and general reading online and seeing YT videos, yes... this is predominantly a joystick game. You *can* play with k/m but it's a far less enjoyable experience

A little tip if you decide to go that route - map "pitch up" to a key you feel comfortable holding down while manipulating other keys. This, in effect, removes one of the largest advantages a joystick has over mouse & keyboard, the ability to infinitely pull back on the stick to keep turning.
Also, try to get your thrusters mapped so that you can manipulate them at a moments notice during flight. This part's a little trickier, and you'll definitely be at a disadvantage here compared to a joystick, but entirely doable (I use Ctrl+key I normally use for yaw for example).
The game is definitely playable on mouse and keyboard, and you'll be far more accurate than you ever could be with a joystick when it comes to placing shots. In the end, all it comes down to is mapping controls that work for you, and, you guessed it, practice.

I play this with mouse and keyboard fine? The only keys I changed is put roll on the A & D buttons and put boost on B as I kept killing myself with boost under tab

"My father died [in] 2011," player Caliburn wrote on the game's official forums. "When Frontier offered Backers to add NPC names to the name database, I added his name. Today while exploring an anarchy system, I ran into a random Viper and scanned it. It was his name, dangerous and clean. Dad, hope to see you again out there."
They want to release before the end of the year, although I sincerely hope they don't - it isn't really ready for that yet, plus there is the Gamma test phase too...
I would imagine it'll be 1st quarter of 2015.

Man this title is SUCH a shame for me at the moment. Absolutely loved the elite series and loved Elite Dangerous up until they got to beta 3 and all the point releases.
For me the multiplayer is a total shambles. They are SO SO far off the mark from getting this to a decent level of multiplayer stability. Plus the constant push of new content is just wreaking havoc to the game mechanics at present because they haven't got the multiplayer component sorted yet.
Not sure if they even can given their current p2p strategy. Pushing for an end of year release is a big mistake IMHO. It needs another good 3-6 months of hardcore bug crushing and dev on the multiplayer side.
Releasing early at this stage would be crushing review wise.
"Game is great single player, online is borked"
They've released 4 point releases since 3 and multiplayer has gotten worse each time. I understand their need to move forwards with content and test those mechanics but they are doing that at the wrong time. They needed to get a really stable multiplayer side working, as it stands all the netcode issues are causing a mess in all the systems like missions and trading for the majority of users.
I'm watching the forums constantly but their evasion over the subject of multiplayer connectivity leads me to believe this is going to be a very buggy launch.
My anticipation level of this title went from a 9/10 to a 6 or 5 at present. Almost bordering on damn I wish I hadnt backed this.
All that talk about "the benefit of being our own publisher etc etc" is all craptalk at present. They've either run out of funds (possible?) or some cockpiece high up has said the game needs to be released NAOW
