I used to run 2 Jedi Outkast servers then i switched to 2 Jedi Academy servers. They are actually quite afordable to lease. I used to rent from VSK Gaming servers for about 40-50 a month, and when you have a group of people supporting you. all it takes is everyone to pitch about 5 bucks every other month. But i ran them out of my pocket for about a year.

The most aforable solution is to lease the entire box in a Data Center with a decent OC48-192 connection. Then sub lease slots on your box and you should basically be able to run a couple servers for yourself for free.

So I guess the question is which service would someone go with? Not that I'm hosting anything, just curious.

Anyone know the leading competitors in the US?

Also were those servers public or private, and how many player slots were they? All services I see charge you per player slot.

They have amazing hardware but really really shity service, so you better know what your doing before ordering one.

heres there pricing for the ones i used to run, but they have gone way up, i cant beleve how expensive they are now.

My pings were always amazing, my server was hosted in the central USA and i logged in from West coast canada and my ping was 60-80 with the server half full.

just checked the Q4 pricing becasue the doom3 engine is a bandwidth hog. its like 87 bucks for a 16 man. Sad way to expensive

Servers come from the mainframe, the real world as we know it has limits but in the mainframe "the one can run free"

Take the blue pill my boy and I will wake you from your dreams....

thanks TIPS.. LOL of course if your a server admin somewhere you can run one for free. restates the obvious.

But. Read stooz post. He was asking about companies. Prices etc.
Why dont you give some links to other companies then?
Yes there are cheaper servers out there, there are alot of companies started by leasing a whole bunch of boxes, then sub leasing the box (Like i said in a previous post) But on average you get what you pay for. Try running a BF2 server on a "Value" box, or heh doom3. And many of them are fly by night operations.

sad that im the only one with a on-topic response.

A 32 slot public Battlefield 2 server is like $300/month. :\

Even though I don't want to host that, just stating how bad it gets with certain services... I'd like to see some competitors if anyone knows of any.

and there are a dozen more companies. You can also rent a box from a thousand different providers. Many will allow you to host games, just read the fine print.

In sweden the limit was for the old 100/100 from Bredbandsbolaget, however they are not the only ones to provide 100Mbit.. several other isps does it as well with no limits. And BBB removed the limits also, but i don't think they sell their 100/100 anymore, now it's 100/10
