The game just gets more and more intense as you play through it plus the fear, insanity and injury system really starts to kick in you as you get later into the game and ammo plus medpacks are more scarce. You literally have to make a conscious effort to calm your character down at times or he goes insane and the game ends he even shoots himself commiting suicide if he really starts to go insane. You have to make sure your gun is empty so that isn't an option for your character when he gets scared.

The thing with your vision getting all blurred and shaky to the point where you can barely see what your doing is brilliant as well. The screen turning to black and white when your about to die and your heartbeat pulsing on the controller is great plus the way when your at that point you can sometimes avoid death by using the morphine in conjunction with resting in a safe spot is brilliant.

There have beens some stages which I've found garbage as well to be honest, I liked the novelty of playing the first third of the game without a gun and when you got one it was like now its payback time. But some of the levels just have far too much gun based action, too many enemies and no option to try and sneak through them.

I like the tips that you get when the games loading scenes as well

Quote:
when your arms are broken then aiming and accuracy with the guns will become adversely affected, the effect is more pronounced when both arms are broken

No shit, theres another tip like that in the game for when you break your legs. Very Happy

61% in and absolutely loving it! The refinery was one of the coolest maps Ive ever played in any single player game especially that huge monster thing! Damn that took some figuring out! The joypad vibrations are insane at times! Ive never felt vibrations like them! lol. I heard about the character commiting suicide but its not happened to me yet! Sad

Im 83% in, some of the scenes are starting to get really challenging. Im at a point where stealth is required so I took a break from the game being that this aspect of CoC isn't my favourite.

Looks like its game over for me with this title.

I noticed throughout the game there were certain scenes later in the game which would trigger the Xbox to freeze up i.e. you could walk up to some NPC's and talk to them during a mission and it would cause the Xbox to freeze up plus there were a couple of other scenes where you could recreate a system crash by doing certain things. Its literally frozen my Xbox up over 10 times which as any Xbox owner knows the machine freezing up is a rarity.

Anyway got to 89% and hit a showstopper im standing at a spot on a level firing a gun into an area on the level and after a specific number of shots (13) have been fired and made contact with the intended target the Xbox screeches and locks up.

I've tryed every video mode possible and every video setting within those modes and still the same result plus theres nothing wrong with the disc or the xbox.

Ah well cest la vie if anyone manages to get past that part and complete it please post what happens after the 89% mark storywise just to satisfy my interest.

I can confirm the game locks up on some levels/events from a retail build... Hell even the official site are full of threads complaining about corrupt saves, locks ups etc etc Sad

I really hope you'll finish the game starshine, because it's great.

Im currently battling with that idiot "Robert Marsh" using a knife... hard as hell, dunno how many knife wounds he takes before he dies.

I've seen half of these puzzles in other PC adventure games GP, plus the game world is tiny compared to something like Myst with all its different ages. Your inventory is very small and the amount of reading and listening compared to something like Myst is tiny all of the above make it easy for me.

l don't think they made it too hard because they don't want to alienate alot of people that could play this as a crossover adventure/horror/fps/stealth genre game.

Lol no I don't think im stupid either Very Happy We all think differently, and approach situations using different tacticts/logic. The game locked up for me during the "welder level" where you're suppose to weld a broken pipe, I had to listen to that sailor about 20 times going on about the doors must be shut, annyoing as hell.. I went to gamefaqs and found out you could close the furnance, here's another problem.. level design... It locked up evry time the light went out!

You know that level - mansion right after you climbed up from the hatch, you were suppose to find another translation in order to pray - dagon? I probably went around upstairs for at least an hour, before I read on a forum, you can jump over the obstacles near the stairs... sometimes you can jump over things, but for the most time you can't, poorly/stupid level design.

I love hard games (Ninja Gaiden is my favorite), Im an old school adventure/rpg/army simulator player, meaning I love challenges and I hate kid games like "fable". But being hard shouldn't meant "stupid". In reality there's only 1 way "international" how you open a safe.

Logic would suggest you follow the arrows in order to get a code (see church - safe combination) I've seen a few similar approaches in other games, and you followed the arrows in order to get a code.

In 99% cases I get stuck is because of poor level design or no back info.

Still I love this game, and im gonna buy some HP Love craft books, in order to find out more about Dagon/hydra/chutulu, btw I've seen most of the movies, check out "Necricon" or re-animator they are classics Smile

Once again I really hope you'll get past that error, wait.. it could happen to me as well.. im at 82% - fighting Robert Marsh... If you can't get by the freezing point and I'll finish the game, I can fill in the blanks...

Sorry for my grammar, it's like 2 am and im fucking tired Sad

Completed it just then GP it was the final boss that I was at, don't ask me what the ending was supposed to be about its 2am here, im also tired and I have the sound on my speakers down to near enough zero so I don't wake people up but it predictably eludes to a sequel.

Im gonna play the last 5 mins again just to get a grasp of exactlly what just happened. The bug in question was like the one in Prince of Persia Warrior Within when you tryed to do something which should have been done at a later stage it transformed you into the dark character and whisked you away to a later level in the game which was impossible to complete. In this however it just results in a hard crash. Was obviously fixed by relistening to what the character says and trying a different slant on things. The bug still shouldn't be in the game though but thats what you get when you hire people to playtest and give them a walkthrough to do so. There was another error which involved my character almost floating through a wall, im damned if I know what that was all about plus talking to some of the crew on the boat when your grabbing ammo for the officer also resulted in a hard crash. I had crashes in the first town as well which just isn't acceptable for a console game unless there gonna recall and repress new patched discs which is highly unlikely. Theres also major hitching and frame drops in places, at times I couldn't be sure if it was the effects within the game but I think it actually has some performance issues on some scenes.

I know what your saying about some of the design you either see it or you don't and in 90% of the cases in this game I saw it and could follow the logic in the game and I ain't just saying that I even found that for the most part the game shepherds you on a single route through the levels there really isn't that much backtracking at all. A couple of stupid puzzles caught me out and they weren't even puzzles really it was the fact that I was playing the game in PAL mode just made the game that little bit harder to pick out objects due to the darkness. I walked by that damn crowbar christ knows how many times on the Jailbreak level before eventually retracing mysteps with a fine tooth comb.

Compare some of those puzzles to some of the Myst ones and they seemed very logical and straightforward to me but as you say people think differently.

Overall gotta say this is one of the most enjoyable games out this month and must recommend it to everyone that has a PS2 or Xbox, I'll probably play another adventure after this im sick of FPS games and this was just so enjoyable. Very Happy

Thanks GP for your offer of filling me in on the outcome of the game, obviously no need now im finished with it.

According to the game statistics my Drug Abuse was Heavy and my Mental Condition is Nut Job Laughing

Finally finished this one! I had a huge break from it but this is one of the best games this year for me without a doubt! My first attempt took just over 13 hours and 94% completion which is pretty bad but I spent ages on a few puzzles that I think I should have been able to figure out much quicker than I did! lol. I think I ended up with the worst possible ending so I may try a 2nd run through the game if I can find the time! The requirements to rank A are rediculous in my opinion!

Well done, my rating was crap as well headshot I ranked in at 96% grade D and took just over 9 hours (although in reality I probably took alot longer) Drug use Heavy, Mental Condition Nut Job, Blood loss heavy.

I think to rank in at A you would have to miss out on some of the best elements of the game by pretty much looking the other way whenever theres anything creepy on screen which just doesn't appeal to me. I loved the feeling of being hunted, constantly running away whilst your characters bleeding badly and teetering on the edge of passing out. What there effectively asking you to do to achieve that A rank is miss out on all of that.

What do you mean by worst possible ending? are there different ending scenes based on performance?

Yeah there's an ongoing rumour about a secret ending, only if you do REAL good Very Happy

I finished the game like 1-2 weeks ago...and it's easily one of my favorites, despite some "puzzles" eh starshine Very Happy

Not much to add, I think it's sad a lot of players are missing out on this game, because of poor marketing. I really hope the next 2 games are gonna be good (diff story, based on the same author, diff develp)

l'a Dagon l'a Chutulu

EDIT: Im so gonna buy "Call of chutulu" by H.P Love craft Smile

@starshine sorry m8 I noticed your reply above, im sick (fever) so I don't have the energy to write a full story about the game etc, im glad im not the only on who enjoyed the game Smile

no worries mate get well soon, yeah the other sad thing about this game aside from what you said about people not playing it is that absolutely noone appears to be buying it. I saw it on sale for £17.99 the other day presumably down to bad sales.

I guess thats why come this time next year, there will be 50+ sequels/generic FPS games and the like - a shame really.
