I have an Asus MB with an Intel Chipset, Pentium 3.2 ghz, 1 gig dual channel pc-3200 ram, Hitachi Serial ATA 250 gig HD, NEC 3540a. My computer seems to be lagging, unraring ps2 games take 30 min or more, paring takes a long time. When I burn a game I lose the read buffer and it goes back and forth. I've noticed that my PS2's DVD laser makes a noise (probably the laser coil) before it starts the burned game. I use Maxell 8X DVD+R and Sony 8X DVD+R (both made in japan). I've installed the chipset drivers, I've tried starforce clean, I've tried scandisk, etc. I even tried defrag, which I had to quit because it was taking 10 hours for like 23%. Can anyone help me try to figure out the problem. I really don't want to format my HD. My friend told me it could be a bad Serial ATA cable or Windows got corrupted. What does everyone suggest I do to fix the problem?

Do you know a program I can use to test the Hard Drive and my system in general to see what the problem is?
