Oh wow. That has genuinely surprised me. He has done nothing but belittle and insult everyone right from the start. Good riddance to people like him. Kicks is also being a colossal dick as well.
Kicks wrote: | Like I said it sucks that it means some have been cut out of this - but you know what? Horrid internet connectivity aside, I think many of the antagonists here will be quite happy playing the game given this decision. |
Yes, I'm totally sure people will be HAPPY playing a game that can drop at any fucking time and leave them unable to play, at the whims of the developers who can institute any changes they feel like and be damned the paying customers. I'm certainly happy! Can't you tell? I'm DELIRIOUS with happiness! Even today, people playing the game were booted when the server went down.
GREAT FUCKING GAME, GUV'NOR.

Tolerance to bullshit? Me?
I just saw this coming a mile away and am not surprised in any way. I'm just afraid to say anything bad (or good) about ED and SC because there's always pricks like you attacking me straight away, nitpicking on every word I say about these games. I'm either a hater or a fanboy and in this case you're being extra hilarious, because I've been one of the few who's been saying that Frontier are no better than CIG.
But it's okay, I'll leave the thread again. I've got better things to do than this shit. |
Hey mate, don't take it so personal.
Oh, and calling me a prick... that's a no-no!

Jesus... the fucking asshole fanboys on the forum are trying to pretend that offline was never promised and that it was always online only. Someone please invent the "break fingers over the internet" button. The amount of scumbags that argue in defence of online-only DRM ("everyone has internet these days!") makes me sick to my stomach.

Load up a tutorial mission, unplug your internet then go onto supercruise. All orbits are there. Jump to another system, everything is generated on your PC without an Internet connection and it still all works. Fly around for an hour, watch the planets orbit. It all works.
No Internet, all local. And in Beta 3.

It was promised right from the get-go, and while many weren't happy with the whole "eghhhhhhh, you won't get all the nice universe changes if you play offline!" schtick, at least the option for offline was there. Brooke also confirms that offline was an option but is now 100% online only, in various posts. Subscriptions are *going* to happen. Of that much I am absolutely 100% certain; they're *going* to happen .. and likely soon too. The advertising, the "buy premium skins1111!!" stuff, the removal of all offline functionality - they need funds for the servers somehow and I'm absolutely convinced we'll see talk/announcement of subscription packages sooner rather than later. Then we'll also hear from RSI about how their planned private server implementation won't be released because Blah Blah Reasons.
Brooke posted earlier (I'll try and find it) about how the team doesn't want offline players to have access to the server software because the team doesn't want anyone knowing the secrets. Sound familiar? Same bullshit parroted on the RSI forums too.

We paid to test the game, and to receive a copy of the finished game at release.
Never said anything about not being sub-free You're right, I bet they pull that one out.

The problem here is that you'd have access to the server which isn't something we'd want to allow as it contains the secrets of the galaxy. Which was also an issue with an online version.

They never had any intention of allowing offline mode and, judging by their jealously guarded "secrets", modding was never an option either.

Great post here:

Yes. Kickstarter's Terms of Use require creators to fulfill all rewards of their project or refund any backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill. "
My reward of a Physical DRM-free collector's premium boxed edition of "Elite: Dangerous" can obviously not be fulfilled now. |
I have already requested a refund. Lets see what bullshit they say about that.. If i get a reply!

I'm done with that thread, I simply cannot read another post in it without feeling the bubbling rage threatening to explode. I said it before and I'll reiterate it again; I hate gamers and I really fucking hate fanboys. Oh well, just another game to scratch of my list then - because if FDEV think they're seeing a penny from me for their DRM-ridden crap, they're sorely mistaken.

Can't say im suprised given the state of gaming atm, even when you help fund projects they still fuck you over.
They would have known long ago whether a key feature such as offline mode would have been available but obviously decided not to tell us cause they knew it would have financial concequences and that is the name of the game.

So i just now noticed all of this. Obviously they are dicks for lying, but i find it difficult to give a shit, since it dosent really affect me, as i'm always online.
But what is this about advertising? I have completely missed that, does it mean i can risk seeing adds for McDonalds or Coca Cola while flying around?

There's a clause in Eula that makes it possible to advertise in game.
And since it's always online now, if they do implement it, you WILL be seeing adds in every space station probably

Yo guys a crazy, damn.
At first when I saw all these bashing pages I thought the game was canceled or something...
So I will have to be always online to play game ? Fuuuuuuu !
Oh wait I am already always connected...

Personally I prefer to see ingame actual adds as long as they fit right (futuristic version) than having to pay a subscription fee to help servers maintenance.
(They don't have 60+M$ in dah bank like RSI here)
Now they should have learned after all these fuss about "online only" games, and they should have proposed an offline mode even if if would have been a tiny part of the universe with limited features, just to calm people down.
Also I tried offline mode in beta, honestly it felt so peaceful and lifeless that I didn't bother.
(if this can be of any help... )
But again, I understand people wanting offline mode, as griefers there are and more griefers there will be at game launch...
This is the only concern I have with online play, but if I understood correctly the online (solo play) will still be in, so I don't see any problem here.
Unless I missed something, microtransactions ? monthly subs ? overpriced DLCs ?

@Silent_Lurker
Two words;
Error 37.
Yeah, I'm sure you'll be having a blast playing your solo game that demands a constant internet connection "because Reasons®" where the servers can go down because of DDoS, or maintenance, or updating, or because of any number of factors. You *like* paying for a solo game that you can only play when X Company dictates? As for microtransactions, subs, DLC, etc. Quite possibly, yes, and since they've locked it to online-only now.. there's fuck all you can do about it. If they decide their not making enough money from ship paint DLC ( ) they could - and I'm absolutely certain they WILL - implement a monthly "premium" sub. And, again, there will be absolutely fuck all you can do about it. Suck it up. Pay up or leave. In the meantime, enjoy some fresh Coca Cola, brought to you by our sponsors!
The simple fact is; they promised full offline capability from Day 1. It was a selling point of their Kickstarter (ka~ching, $1.7m please) and it was touted weekly over the last two years while they sold a grossly overpriced $200 beta (ka~ching, another few million please) - it was even reiterated LAST WEEK that offline mode was available. They lied, repeatedly, then scammed their customers and there's nothing you can do about it.
Wonderful company.
