No, if you want to get technical you can say that the developer didn't breach the contract that you made with them when donating.

Just refund and stop complaining with useless arguments. Go on and win your little battle against the greedy devs. |

Yes. People are certainly going to win their "little" battle.

Ffs DB is currently taking questions in the forum, myself and numerous others have asked about the offline thing, but naturally those questions have been overlooked in favour of one's that are far more positive.

Back during the Kickstarter, we were clear about the vision, to make a phenomenal new sequel to Elite in an online world, which we believe we are about to deliver. At the time we believed we could also offer a good single player experience, and base an acceptable offline-only experience off that. As development has progressed, it has become clear that this last assumption is not the case. That experience would be empty at best, and even that would take a lot of extra work.
It is not to enforce DRM or advertising as you suggest. We will be judged on quality, and the quality of that game experience would be poor, and we don't want to deliver a poor game. To make a richer offline single player experience has always been possible (and still is) but would be a separate game with its own story content. A huge slice of separate work. We have developed a multi-player game with an unfolding story involving the players, and groups collaborating with specific objectives and taking account of all players behaviour. This is what the game is about. Without this it would not be the rich gaming experience that we will deliver, and would be a great disappointment to all players.
I don't pretend it was an easy decision, but it was done to benefit the game as a whole. One thing we have looked at carefully is our requirements of the network connection. For the single player game they are pretty light. I myself have played the game fine on the train using a laptop on a tethered connection over my phone. Given that this is a game which is only available online, this was the decision we took. I am sorry that people are so upset about it, but it was the right decision.

reading the replies of the dev and head guy it seems pretty sensible what has been said, the servers are a persistent online setup where being online is key to it and its changing economy via players etc.
I can not see how well an offline version would work if its not got the possible code content to deliver a "today's" expected game. It is probably safer to not release an offline version if it portrays dumbed down playability, it would do the game more harm than good.
Now if it was originally said it had "been" coded for offline use at the offset then so be it, but when they made that choice to stop that and mention it is more important than if they stop it at all.
None of you are gaming devs or top brass I would guess, so can be pretty sure here that you are all just spewing a little on just rage fueling from what YOUR expectations were originally. Take that as you will I am sure flames will ensue they normally do here in hostilehump
If its in the best interests it is in the best interests and nothing that is said can change that, only the devs and the like can be sure of how things are progressing and how they may affect such offline systems. It is a shame that the game may not be able to be as good/indepth as its online counterpart but hey can you imagine eve offline, no not me either - and nobody may reply to that which has no long term play background with it.

I don't like always-online games for the reason that mods are highly unlikely and seriously, people were creaming themselves at the idea of mod potential. Not to mention that these games WILL die in the future.

Im not getting why being online is fraudulent sabes, why? its just being online its not asking you to bend over and copy paste ur ip to them every 5 mins making online hell.
Tensions are high and seeing such makes it obvious people who are upset about the discussed problem here really wanted to play this, the trouble is it is still able to be played lol.
