I always pre-order games I know Im going to buy. I dont see the prob.
Take GTA V for PS4...I got 1 million money, 500k for offline, 500k for online because i pre orderd
Yeah, I'm pretty sure just using a cheat-code gives the same result in single-player.
Most of the time, there ARE no cheat codes in games any more. Cheat codes are for the pre-DLC generation of derpelopers There are cheat codes in GTA5 though, but using them - as in SR series too - disables "cheevos", if you're thusly inclined.

Luckily I don't care much for achievements so I've used cheat codes plenty of times in GTA4. Ohh, and trainers when I really feel like a dirty bastard who wants to cheat in a single-player game.
I liked to finish games without cheating and then download a cheat (let's say if it was for Civ 2 or 3) and then cheat the fuck out of that game just to see all the things that were in it.
Or with the grand strategies like CKII and the likes... have the first extensive play with cheats to learn the system (I find it works better than guides) and then start a game without once you learned most of it.
And then there are occasions of daft design with some games so then you use a trainer to make it better.

Nothing beats having future tech from start and threaten all with nukes lolololololol
Especially if you're ghandi and you take over half the world. Good stuffz
The last time that I've preordered a game, Steam didn't even exist xD. I reserved my copy with words, "hey when the truck arrives, call me!", good times. And when you bought a game, you even had the full product available from the start, what an unthinkable sorcery.
Today if you're lucky, you get a good 70%. The remaining 30% being split between D̶L̶C̶s̶ ̶ S̶e̶a̶s̶o̶n̶ ̶P̶a̶s̶s̶e̶s̶ cancer, greediness, and a kick in the nuts 9 times out of 10, either because you end up buying a straight 1:1 port, or an unoptimized garbage, or a beta passed of as final, you name it. I can't afford buying a full priced game these days, but that's another story, I wouldn't do it anyway not even if I could. Always ISO first and sales later, maximizing the pleasure and minimizing the rants.
It's not just games, you can see this all over the software industry. Apple iOS 7 & 8 are some of the most buggy OS releases ever, needing at least .1 or .2 to make worthwhile, Google Android 4.0, 4.1.0, 4.2.0, 4.3.0, 4.4.0 and now 5.0 are progressively more buggy at release, only becoming usable after several patches in. Windows 8.0, 8.1, same thing. Photoshop. Visual Studio. Xcode. I am seeing a similar vicious cycle in our products in Check Point.
Games are very complex systems, getting more and more complex with the years, yet release cycles have become shorter and shorter. And adding more developers and QA testers does not scale linearly with software quality. Throwing more people on a problem, while sometimes also important, just doesn't work.
We used to laugh at European games that always promised the world, but fell short and full of bugs, and excuses were always "it is so ambitious, of course there will be bugs". Well, "western", more traditional, developer houses are hitting the same problems now. They have to create something more complex, much faster than they used to.
Why does there have to be a Call of Duty every year? Because retards buy it, that's why. As long as there are idiot sheep to buy these Assassins Creeds, Call of Dutys, Battlefields, nothing will change, and as I said, it's not just games that are suffering from this consumer retardation.
i cant even begin to understand the point in preordering fucking data that is limitlessly available.
the last time i preordered a game was in late 90s/early 2000s, because we relied on physical copies that could be sold out on day 1 if the product was highly popular.

Preorder "exclusive" bonuses and freebies that will usually cost you €5-10 separately later. That's pretty much the only reason.

To be honest it's the same. I've bought ones for Total War games myself on Steam sales. for 0.49$ but still, that's also part of the problem.

but these bonuses are absolute shit, a piece of armor and a sword that become useless after the first 2 hrs, how is that worth any money at all?
I pre-ordered doom3 from the US (big deal then!) because the alpha was great. It wasn't doom anymore but it was unique and dark. The game itself was a huge disappointment. Maybe it wasn't even that bad, but the alpha was SO PROMISING.. anyway, I stopped pre-ordering.

Oh look they want to make a real point and click adventure? Let's back Tim Schafers game. It's out and I played it for 3 minutes. Hmmm, that wasn't what I had in mind.. should have spend more time reading about their actual plans.
Cool, a real tactical shooter, like rainbox six! Oh they don't have much time left to reach their goal! Let's fund Takedown! ... Ugh, fucking shit sux, worst decision ever :/ should have spend more time reading about their actual plans.
Wow, a good looking space simulator, by the guy who made freelancer (I couldn't play that very much, but everybody loves it!) Oh and yeah, he made wingcommander, I played each and everyone of those and they were all great! The targets are ambitious but realistic, let's fund! ... Oh funding continues. Oh... they are adding pets. And they sell ships... as limited edition. Limited edition digital goods? Wat? ... Oh the requirements... wait, they are adding more shit? Wtf, when are they going to stop?!! Ughhh, this will never work as promised

Pre-ordering sucks.
That applies to both KS and Early Access.
So much so I really don't want to spend any more money on games that are still in production.
