F.e.: I dont like what Hitler did as a person, but he was a great writer and painter none the less.

He also gave many people a job

The thing is, you don't pay to see Hitler's paintings and read his stuff. Would you have given Hitler money back then? That's the difference - Ron made some great games 20+ years ago. I can recognise that (even though he was part of a talented team making those games come true). What I can't recognise is someone asking $350.000 for a game that looks like an indie gamer could pull it off in a few months on a shoe string budget.

His support for Sarkeesian combined with his contact with Double fine combined with Double Fine's incredible waste of a big budget combined with Tim Schafer supporting Sarkeesian as well ... adds up to me staying the fuck away from these guys. It's a huge shame having to put creators of my favorite games of old on a black list but they fucked up big time.

Well that was kind of meant as a joke, since Hitler really was a pretty bad painter and a horrible writer.

But all things considered, I do not think that their budget is so far above what is realistic for such a project nowadays. I have not seen enought of the game either. Its not in the gfx alone, which their older games demonstrate pretty well.

His support for Anita is a shame and it makes me not want to support him, but the game could be great none the less.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

How Thimbleweed Park recreates the glory days of graphic adventure games
Quote:
Thimbleweed Park's pitch is simple: Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick are making an oldschool point-and-click adventure that looks, sounds and plays like a Lucasarts title from the late 80s. You look at Thimbleweed Park once, think "yeah, I get what they're going for", and move on. But having played nearly a half hour of it at PAX East, it becomes apparent that by staying true to its quarter century old roots, Gilbert, Winnick, and co. have created something that feels genuinely fresh in today's landscape.

A small budget doesn't necessarily mean Thimbleweed Park will be a small game. Gilbert says it will be "about the size of Monkey Island 2" with close to 100 different locales. Gilbert recently revisted the original Maniac Mansion and first two Monkey Island titles and found their slow and steady pacing to be on point. "The thing that really struck me with both of those games is how they opened up the world. You're kind of a little area of the world to explore, and then as you solve puzzles the world kind of opens up more and more and more. It's like on of the rewards of solving a puzzle is new art. So that was one thing we really wanted to do with Thimbleweed."

Thimbleweed Park shows a lot of promise that's predicated on a lot more than mere nostalgia. It doesn't seem to invent anything new, but it salvages elements of game design that were perhaps buried prematurely. Based on its early demo, Thimbleweed Park is a retro throwback that lovingly preserves something we didn't know we missed.

Maybe because Double Fine's Broken Age burned millions of dollars on high-res graphics?

I'm cautiously optimistic about this game. I'm such a fan of the Monkey Island series that I wouldn't stand the game to be even slightly mediocre Very Happy

I'm still not giving him a penny. It may be a good game but it will end up in a cheap bundle soon enough I'm sure.

I'm also looking forward to it, but I just hope Ron Ron's strong sociolitical visions stay the hell away from the game and don't influence it in any way. It would be a shame.

Definitely a very nice game, I'm about 3 hours in and loving every minute of it. Smile

It's full ( perhaps a bit too much so, but it's excusable and not bothersome.. and they're funny Very Happy ) of insider jokes one will only get if he/she's played previous LucasArts adventure games, but that's about the only flaw I could think of at the moment.

I've been receiving several IMs asking me to review it on my Wordpress blog which is odd - I wonder if they're mobilising a fan base or paying people to push for reviews? I do have to say the art style is a lot better than what their Kickstarter showed - now it's a lot closer to Monkey Island 1. Not quite the same quality as Monkey Island 2 but good enough. Now if it wasn't for Gilbert being a Sarkeesian cultist and I might have bought it ...

Didn't spot any SJW crap yet Smile
Edit: Some not-very-subtle references to present-time issues though.
