How does that driverless dac and amp works ? How do I change settings for it then.

Just get a equilizer...simple as that really, I got a realtek one that came with my drivers that monitors the default sound device and I just tweak it as I want.

lol not for that price. I'll stick with Topping's offerings. Doesn't sound like it does much more than the Topping VX1 for double the price.

I just replaced my Sennheiser HD595's with some Bose Q25. How I lived without noise cancelling at home for this long is beyond me! Well worth the money, although it does make me sad that I wont be using my HD595s as much, if at all!

I'm going to ask for a headphone amp for christmas again this year, although I still think they're a little too expensive to justify as a christmas gift Sad.. Any advice Spykez?

Thanks for the links! I'm not sure the budget but probably about £100? Depends on how much I plan on spending on the missus Razz!

are you going to use this soley for headphones or do you plan on hooking speakers up to it? If so what kind of speakers?

100 euros = about 150USD and that opens up a lot of possibilities.

However, in all honesty, between me and another member here, I got the Topping VX1, then Pax liked the sound of it and bought the VX1 and we're both super happy with it.

http://www.amazon.com/TOPPING-Tripath-Subwoofer-Amplifier-Digital/dp/B00H6XDE4S/

Also has options on the back to run L/R aux in as well as speaker output options for running bookshelf speakers (my VX1 is powering these http://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-2-Way-Passive-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B002FJVTGI/ ).

If for whatever reason you wanted, it'll run both the speakers and the headphones at the same time.

I can give you more options if you'd like though Smile I just say go for the VX1 because there's two of us here that have it and love it.

99% of the time I'll be using headphones but the rest of the time I'm not as fussed about audio quality. I use a good quality set of 2.1 PC speakers (some of the best you can buy although I don't recall the brand of the top of my head!) but given how little they are used I'm not too fussed about catering for them.

Am I correct in thinking a USB DAC will take over as my soundcard?

The left speaker of my Creative Gigaworks T20 set died. Yeah I know it's old and probably crap by the lowest standards today, but I liked them a lot Sad The headphone out still works, but having one speaker sucks. So, I am in the market for a new speaker set for a max price of 60 euros. I assume a good 5.1 set is impossible for that price, so I guess I'm left with 2.1. Any suggestions? The speaker or woofer must have an aux in btw.

fuck 5.1 totally.
Get something which wont be such a clusterfuck. If You want surround get headphones and play around with dolby headphone virtual surround.

As for speakers, get either t40 or standalone full range speakers like SpykeZ got. Why in the world are people going into those clustery 5.1 setups that never work right. I had one and threw away 3 speakers and made it nice 2.1

I have an issue with buying and selling to try other setups just because it's fun.

So...upgrade time coming soon.

Going to use the Schiit Modi for a DAC
http://www.amazon.com/Modi-USB-Digital-Analog-Convertor/dp/B00CICPN0K

And I'm still reading about tube amps but so far the Little Dot MK3 is standing out.
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Dot-Headphone-Amplifier-AMPLIFIER/dp/B00CHIKIDM

Once I get those settled in, around tax time I'm upgrading my headphones from the HD 598 to the HD 700 ( maybe the 650...haven't decided yet)

I've never used Schiit before (god I love their name lol!) but they are well liked among audio enthusiasts. Same as FiiO too though, I've owned their E9 and E7 and they make REALLY solid stuff.

Well I bought the Trust Tytan 2.1 (yeah yeah it's cheap). A brand I never heard of, Edifier M1380, looked very sexy. The bass was a bit weak. Logitech Z525 drew my attention because Logitech, but the sound wasn't as good as the Tytan IMO. When I saw the Tytan was available for 50 euros (Z525 was 70), I said fuck it and bought it. I must say it sounds amazing for this price. I realized I've been living without bass for all this time Sad

Creative T40 had really crappy bass compared to this btw. I'll never buy a 2.0 speakerset again.

If you don't have full range speakers you absolutely need a sub. Small drivers just can't hit those low frequencies. Even on a full range floor standing speaker set, having a sub allows the speakers to focus more on midrange/highs while the sub takes the load off.
