Not just any halla, a sacred golden halla. Although if you ask me it just looks like an ordinary halla with a green tinge around the legs.

I've never upgraded windows. tbh.. It has always been a clean install because usually something always gets fucked up. However, before getting rid of win7 I first cloned it (~25gb slightly compressed) just in case And I cloned win 8.1 after I have installed all the apps and stuff.(a backup, in case something happens or my system gets real messy)

its been proven quite a while ago now, that windows 8/8.1 outperform windows 7 and pretty much everything when it comes to gaming
one of few reasons I upgraded as well

I don't recommend it.
It has been nothing but a headache and a nightmare. I've spent 7 hours trying to unfuck my PC and now I'm simply giving up, wiping everything, starting over with a fresh 8.1 ISO install. |
I might try it eventually, but first I'll back up my Win 7 barebones partition

Games work great in Win 7 but not in Win 8 so your statement of "win 8 is better for gaming" is erroneous and furthermore you mention "it's been proven" when in reality the proof is the opposite.
We're talking about the same directdraw that is 14 years old which works great in Win 7.

Try playing:
Desperados
Monster Truck Madness 2
Age of Empires (not the HD remakes)
Red Alert 2
Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone
In Windows 8 and see how they work. If you like slideshows then obviously you'll have no issues with it.
That's a list of games that I personally know so there will be plenty of others with the same problems.

oh sorry, because we didnt had same issue with windows xp, vista, 2000, 98 and so on, every new version broke some of old games, thats why they added compatibility mode
ps you should blame devs for using deprecated features/functions, as you usually know years in advance that xxxx is going to be deprecated and you should use yyyy instead

Dual boot FTW!
If I had a 2nd 120GB SSD or a 250GB I'd do it, for now I'll stick with win 7

The point is the very same games work fine in Win 7 using the same directx features (heck, win7 with DX11) but not in Win 8.
Usually when a new OS broke the game there was a work-around to it because most of the times the issues were with opengl, 3dfx or other interfaces. There's no proper workaround for this because the games queries directly to DirectX so the only way to fix it is to hack DirectX itself.

In my case it was easy to move on coz my system was kinda ancient.I don't even remember when I installed win7. I found out I had like 6+ Gb of logs
1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB
2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)

As long as you don't leave the buy/sell screen, you can sell the book back to the vendor and get your gold back. When you leave the buy/sell screen, you'll get your power points and influence despite not having the book.
For those wondering, the vendor is unlocked by a War Table operation, I think it's called "Power for a Price." I forget when the operation is unlocked or if you need a specific adviser to unlock the vendor (I followed the walkthrough and it said to use Cullen).

The result is not very optimistic, only 2/3 of the 100 computers can run the game with our new test crack.
All the AMD Cpus is not working. So we still have much work to do before we release a crack for public. |

Then why not release a alpha/beta crack for people who CAN run it? I'm on an AMD, so i'll have to wait.

High preset. Medium Tessellation. Medium Shadows. Ultra PP. HBAO Full. No MSAA.
50-60% CPU across all cores (i5-2500k @ 4Ghz) and 89% GPU. 50fps.
|
In this scene I have 49fps in 1080p and everything ultra plus 2msaa (or 4MFAA )
970GTX@1515mhz (that is beyond 980 gtx though)
GPU @ 98-99%
And 5820k@4,1ghz 6core cpu at 25% load in general. In my opinion everything is fine. Ultra and 4MFAA with great graphics and 50fps good enough for me.
And then when I'm running around I get 53-60 in general. So these 50 here are the lowest ^^ |
Under Windows 7 I was 50 there, under Win 8.1 I'm getting 54fps with the same settings. Yay. Still, performance in Redcliffe improved a lot - going from a stuttering juddering mid40s to more like 55-60 with same, or even higher, settings. Also running through Hinterlands (specifically Outskirts Camp) had framerate at 46fps before and now, on mostly Ultra with High Tess/High Shadows and HBAO instead of HBAO Full, it's 55-58.
So some improvement in some areas, none in others (Crossroads camp is still terrible, but Mire and Crestwood feel much smoother). Worth a whole day's worth of hassle and shit? Probably not, but at least it's done now Oh and Skyhold is a lot better, especially facing the grand hall which used to cripple performance, but I've noticed that there's a lot more stuttering/hitching overall throughout. So higher framerates in areas, more hitching. Egh.
~edit~
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/631230-dragon-age-inquisition/70609111
It seems to work too! Disabling "Origin In-Game" has almost completely alleviated the stuttering and hitching during movement. That, combined with Windows 8, has made problem areas like Skyhold and Redcliffe an almost entirely different game. To be honest, I am glad I did this after all and I'm glad many of you pushed because the jump is definitely substantial in a lot of places - enough so that settings can actually be bumped up without trouble.
