Problem with Video Game shows is that they put developers in the forefront.
People who aren't good in front of big crowds, cameras in these big shows.
The show would be smoother, better if it was just PR people. But then it would just be a giant commercial. You see who the professionals were (GK, Reggie (sierra) just to name the few I watched) the rest weren't as good at following queues. That sony woo fagt (keep up with the teleprompter cause i'm too good for this bs idiot) is pretty much what this industry is. People who don't give a fuck about their audience and are there to sell a product. Plus it was all digital. No VTR on standby, no tape rolls. Shows that are live + digital are always a disaster. But nobody wants to pay to have a Queue machine + operator + someone who prepares all the footage + timecodes.
And with these guys (devs) and with what we know about the industry (slave trade) they really couldn't fly in and rehearse before the show like many award shows do. They did try to stick to their run table. Which is a lot better than last years handwritten run table on a napkin.
Problem is GK doesn't know BIG names in TV industry that are willing to lend a hand. And everyone wants Digital. For fucks sake they played a youtube trailer for one of their trailers. So it's also one of those... SEND ME A 1080p uncompressed trailer for my award show... kk send me the uncompressed youtube trailer and tell him to cut it 10 seconds before the youtube shit shows up.
They have every thing on a timeline, press play. And then fuck up cause nobody bothered the check the whole thing. The just checked if it plays and skip to the next.
Effort was there. It is a big improvement. But it's a digital show that should not be live. pre-recorded. Edited. Uploaded.

I liked it.
I know how fuckin' hectic running a digital award show is. Had to design, produce, execute and thank fuck not direct one in college. It's nerve-wracking. Everything that could go wrong always goes wrong in a digital show. System goes on standby, things aren't queued, things are on a timeline that you can't speed up cause it'll look stupid, can't do anything with anything you gotta wait for things to play out, can't really do a fade to a different source if you don't have an additional source (always have an additional source running background incase you need to change something in the last minute).
I still don't know why control room mic is heard. like.... WEAR FUCKING HEADSETS. You can hear GK talk into the mic in the control room, you don't have to talk to him. Talk to the floor director and count him in. Audio has always been a problem with these shows. Renting headsets is 'expensive' and if you buy wireless  and you don't know what you're doing and setting everything to the same freq because whynot... 
But hey  I loved it. People on gaf are all wtf is this shit. LOOOOOOL.
They don't know the hard work that goes into it. And it puts the hard working people in the forefront. It put gamers in the forefront as well. If they want PR bull shit watch E3. I'd rather have the devs, the minions, the faces of the company who aren't familiar with crowds getting the real love instead of a suit who's only there to smile, sell a game and tell you that it's better than the prequels.

Yea, can't agree on much of the wins.
Farcry 4? it's good, but it's barely more than farcry 3.1.
Wasteland wasn't even nominated?
Is "indie" code for "casual / simple arcade games" now?
But contrasting to last year, which was just painful, looks like they made a proper show of it.

And yet people will rush out and preorder in droves. I'm fucking sick of how many companies get away with doing this.. and yes, I'm also looking at "beloved" fan drool favourite CDPR too. Downgrades are pathetic, but what's worse is deliberately misleading people with bullshit videos and prerelease "vertical slice" scripted lies.
