I should have never stopped playing Gamma 1.0 - I was pulling in an easy (one jump) 1400 cr x 24 units of gold in my hauler, which was around 33k a run. I got back into the game yesterday, that same profit yield is now 200 cr per unit - absolutely not worth it. Come to think of it, everywhere I went the profit yield on gold was more or less ~200 cr, within 100ly of where I started anyway.

Humped over to Sol, it's no more special than the rest of the galaxy. Shit missions, shit trade. Outfitted a Viper and camped a Nav beacon for bounties. After about 40 minutes I pulled in 26k when all was said and done. On quite a few occasions I spent more on multi-cannon ammo to kill the guy than his bounty was worth!

It's painful turning a profit now. Crying or Very sad

Bud head over to where I am. If you are playing that is.
I started yesterday as well after learning about the no wipe situation.

Apologise for telling you about the possible wipe now as you would have continued playing.
Im getting sorted in a hauler and doing similar to yourself. Managed to get a nice script running off a chap on reddit which is copying all the trade data in the station automatically, you verify it and then it auto uploads to slopeys tool.

Awesome stuff. Managed to start racking in 10k a run now (initial capital is holding me back)

Hit 100k and upgraded my cargo holds so i'm running 18t in the bus. Got interdicted yesterday when doing a 30k run by some toss piece out in the middle of nowhere.
Fucker didnt even try to hail me or demand cargo. Just opened fire. Had no chance Smile

Need to get some sort of convoy group going. Could make a killing like that. Fighter takes out the big ships and the cargo ships come in and collect all the stuff after.
When the fighter has a huge bounty, the cargo ships take him out and claim the bounty back.

Easy money Smile

Waddya say.

Side note, loving the game again now.

You guys still going on about no offline mode and wanting your refunds?

lol.

Game is in a very barebones state, not to say I'm not loving it though. Only issue I have now is the random stutter in SC which happens, kinda annoying. Not CTD anymore. See players out and about (got killed by one last night) but not that many now that I've headed out into the void.

Games going to be decent at SOME point when they add all those advertised features. Play solo online mode if you hate meeting other players (not really that frequent online anyway)

Everyone throwing their toys out of their prams are just doing it for the sake of nothing.
Number of people here whom have bought absolute shit like far cry 4 etc. Terrible games.
I've followed this since the beginning. I'm not super HAPPY about how things turned out but at the same time you can't really have so much hate for it, if you play it a bit it's still top notch.

Wanna sort out that openfreecam thing where your webcam is used to control your head movements ingame.

The oculus rift will be my next purchase but only when it goes consumer. In meantime I wanna be able to look around when coming into dock etc. Any of you tried any of this yet?

I'm not being ignorant, no need to get nasty mate.
Just going back a few months thats all. Before the game started getting close to release, this thread was pretty quiet, only a couple of people whom had backed at a kickstarter level or bought into alpha / beta who were generally all quite happy with release.

From what I recall most were excited about the ideas of working in private groups playing the game etc. Suddenly this shitstorm kicked up (yep frontiers fault totally) and suddenly it seemed like everyone came out of the wood work to slam it to shit.

I aint DEFENDING as such elite, I actually think it's a great title which is being released WAYYYY too early, they would have been better off delaying and getting some more basic features in, namely being able to play with your mates without issues lol.

If you geniunely arent happy with the game fair enough bud. Seems like a LOT of people are using this "WTF NO OFFLINE MODE fuck you braben approach"
I get some people enjoy offline games. I personally find em soooo dull, i cant even begin to imagine this game totally offline, it'd suck knowing that is zero chance of seeing a real life player fly past every so often.

Granted at present it actually feels single player in the sense that there isnt much player interaction apart from griefing but I'm interested to know how much you actually played the game.

And I am a fanboy in the sense that I loved the elite games and ENJOY playing the current game but Im not stupid to the obvious fuckups and issues around the game, isnt any need to get vicious bud Smile All love here pwomise Smile

Yawn. I'm getting real sick of hearing this drivel from EDF lately.

Elite. 1984
Elite 2: Frontier. 1993
Wing Commander: Privateer. 1993
Frontier: First Encounters. 1995
Privateer 2: The Darkening. 1996
Hardwar: 1998
X - Beyond the Frontier. 1999
Tachyon: The Fringe. 2000
Independence War 2. 2001
Flatspace. 2003
Freelancer. 2003
X2: The Threat. 2004
Evochron Alliance. 2005
X3: Reunion. 2006
Darkstar One. 2006
Oolite. 2006
Evochron Renegades. 2007
X3: Terran Conflict. 2008
Evochron Legends. 2009
Evochron Mercenary. 2010
Infinite Space (NDS but still great). 2010
Starpoint Gemini. 2011
X3: Albion Prelude. 2011
Starpoint Gemini 2. 2014

All fantastic open-ended space/combat/trading sims. I've even missed a few such as pure sims that are less free-form (such as the glorious X-Wing/TIE Fighter or Wing Commander series) --- all of them fantastic, all of them beloved by many, all of them have one single thing in common;

Completely playable offline. None of them "soooooooooo dull", none of them "suck" because there's "zero chance of seeing a real life player fly by" and if you genuinely think so then you've missed out on several decades of glorious space sims just out of spite. You're playing Elite:SCANDALOUS now and there are hundreds of billions of systems, along with instanced play, which means there's still close to zero chance of you seeing other people. What's the difference?

jippyuk wrote:

But....but... but... you just told everyone that offline is "soooooooo dull" and that you "can't imagine playing totally offline" because you'll never see another player fly by. Why would you ever be interested in a huge space game when there's no other players in it? Sounds fishy to me. Regardless, it simply doesn't matter whether you managed to grit your teeth and suffer through the endless tedium and boredom of never seeing real life players, the fact is; there are multiple decades worth of history and space sims where you DON'T interact with other people, so why were they acceptable then and not now? And don't give me the "you can play solo!" bullshit either, since the economy is still influenced by other players.

The simple fact is, many of us wanted offline. We didn't get it. Instead we get the fucking EDF insulting us, attacking us, laughing at us, questioning us and coming up with bullshit rationale and excuses about "boring gameplay alone" Stop it. You prefer playing online, great, I'm happy you got what you wanted .. but there are others that didn't, so extend them the same courtesy by not belittling their gripes and complaints.

No you are misunderstanding me... I loved the elite games when I was a kid growing up. Before the internet was common fish.

Since online gaming has come out I've been spoilt (i'll admit it) the buzz of having another player around watching you or possible dropping you out of warp, or working together with friends is what I've come to love and enjoy.

Thats me though.

ME personally have tried some of the games listed over the last say 3-4 years but I just dont enjoy the fact that I can't even play with mates. For me games aren't that fun single player, hence why I can never really get into games like FC4 (despite bugs) or Skyrim for more than a few hours.

I played the fuck for example out of Ultima 6/7 when I was a kid. LOVED them. Played Ultima online to death as well, could I go back to playing Ultima 7 now which is purely offline based? No. I wouldnt enjoy it having played against real players whom use tactics which a computer can never really do properly.

This is personal opinion though. Each to their own. I think ED is the closest TO me in terms of the open ended do what you want in space games which I've always wanted.

Sure star citizen might be the holy grail of games come 2016 but for now I'm looking at what there is available and I dont think elite is as bad a game as some of you make out.

You want just offline singleplayer, okay nuff said. I'll cork it in regards to this issue.

I'm sorry, I just get really fed up of hearing EDF say "Why do you want to play offline/alone? It's boring!" - dafuq.. 30 years of offline space sims and suddenly, today, right now, it's "boring"? Meh. All we wanted is what was offered and promised to us, it wouldn't have impacted those of you that want online play.

I didn't pre-order/back it as I didn't have the dough at the time. I was fully planning on buying it and an extra copy or two for my brothers so we could run our own server and/or play on our own time. After all, for it to be successful, people have to buy it after release as well.

But not any more. I'm not going to buy it. Will it hurt their sales? Probably not. But it's more a matter of principle than anything. They promised X feature that a lot of people wanted. Then, near "release" they point their proverbial fingers and laugh while yelling, "Psyche!" So they can go suck it as far as I'm concerned.

I'll just stay old-school and play Oolite instead.

So my honest Gamma impression? This game is boring.

Sorry, but the EDF are just trying to justify their £100+ purchases, even the £50 I spent feels pretty wasted.

It's the same game since beta, with a few more mission types, but the game feels utterly sterile and dead. Freelancer, for a comparison , felt very much alive, all that radio chatter, all the traffic flowing... made for a galaxy full of life. Elite? Not so much.

Interdictions are just irritating, and not fun, trading is dull and boring, with zero trading tools to help. The idea of having to buy system info, and then having to wait 24 hours to actually access it? Stupid, and is a forced timesink.

I find the flight system to be too slow and unwieldy, combat defintely doesn't flow like I would expect it to.

Graphics are servicable without being stunning - but then the game is only a few gigs in size so that's fair enough.

Online? I see no point in it whatsoever.

400 Billion star systems makes a good game not.

EDF = Elite Dangerous Fans correct? Just making sure lol....

The 400 billion stars is a pointless marketing gimick for sure.
I played an hour or two over lunch and using the nav map (cumbersome) I managed to find myself a system providing pristine metals to mine from.
Nice thing is that not one player has passed through in the last 24 hours which means its all mine mine mine.

The billions of stars? who cares, in the small area people are currently flying throughout the players are already massively spread out.

"Interdictions are just irritating, and not fun, trading is dull and boring, with zero trading tools to help. The idea of having to buy system info, and then having to wait 24 hours to actually access it? Stupid, and is a forced timesink. "

Not sure I get the having to wait 24 hours bit? I think you mean you have the market data for 24 hours from point of purchase. Once you buy the system info its yours immediately. Might not be 100% accurate as it depends on how much the system was scanned by the selling npc / player.

Interdictions I agree are pretty daft, nothing exciting about it all, not even a fun minigame.

I actually enjoy the trading but thats a personal preference. I've managed to get working some ocr stuff posted in reddit which reads a system automatically into a spreadsheet for me making profit checking easier, agreed something should be ingame though.

and i totally agree with the universe feeling dead. Yep they can say "well space is BIG" but thats a copout, should be chatter and other things going on.

Freespace and privateer were funky games!

I'm looking forward to see how they progress with this. Despite the disappointed players here there are a heck of a lot of players whom will follow this through its initial stages.

I am enjoying playing NOW, i wasnt during the other beta phases. Up until my recent enjoyment it was alpha which really had me laughing and having fun as everyone were doing those defend the capital ship missions where there were lots all helping each other out. Felt like a bit of a team based affair.

Atm its all a big questionmark for me. Could go either way this game. I'm hoping for the better though Smile

On a side note, its this kind of stuff which makes me think "what the fuck are you guys doing?!!"

Seems really amateurish this approach. First they said they'd probably wipe, then they said they wont, now they are saying they are going to go through logs of players who cheat and those that exploit? Errm ok.

Quote:
I have been looking over the transaction histories of a few players recently - in my personal view there's a difference between making a profit from an unbalanced game mechanic like rare goods milkruns, and exploiting a bug like repeatedly selling the equipment from a starting ship. So far it looks like a few players have legitimately made 100 million since Gamma - and one or two others may be getting a letter from the Bank of Zaonce, repossessing their Asp.

@jippyuk

No worries man, it wasn't just you that mentioned the wipe, it was the general consensus on the board as well.

I finally managed to scrape enough together to get a Cobra. I'm not sure what kind of load-outs people are using on them, but gimballed weapons are pretty much a must in my opinion as the hard points are spaced so fucking far apart when compared to smaller ships that if you fire both hardpoints only one will ever hit, and I'm a big fan of paired weapons.

Also kind of pisses me off that outfitting the ship even half decent runs you like 5x the cost of the actual ship. Doesn't make sense.

Anyway, after all was said and done, I've only got about 130k to spare left, which isn't much playing around money for 40 cargo hold. And all I really spent money on on the ship was a shitty jump drive (14 ly unloaded), and 2 gimballed type 2 multi-cannons.

Interdicted my first player yesterday (out of sheer boredom and curiosity more than anything). A little hauler zipping around Sol. Shot up his cargo hatch, nothing came out. Apologized and let him be on his merry little way. Still feeling kind of guilty about it though. Sad

I'll hop on after Gamma 2 launches today and try to make my way towards you Jippy - assuming the little friend tool tells me where you are.

And on the last note - Route Planning and Slave Trading! WOOT! Very Happy

Edit - That trailer is so misleading it should be criminal. The game plays NOTHING like that.

No online for me, lag all over and disconnects. Last online game I tried was Hearthstone.
Elite Frontier was one of the first games I got in a big Box CD-Rom, bough with my first earned cash, still have the manual somewhere. Sad I was expecting the concept to grow from that same sandbox space adventure design, instead it seems to be drifting to an MMO, social something.

Systems/stations with a stored ship will have a blue ship icon on the galaxy map. It should be within one or two jumps of where you started.
