It's funny how the "by stander effect" ONLY works if it's a guy getting beaten, isn't it? Oh, this harsh patriarchal society that oppresses women and considers them garbage ... Men would be tripping over themselves to try and save a girl from getting beaten.
How about yes, they would. There's countless examples of real life occurrences and social experiences where they DID.
As said before, just some weeks ago a girl was punched so hard in the face that she fell on the floor and died from that fall. She was the only person protecting two younger girls who were harassed by a bigger, drunk boy.
I would not be surprised if they were russians.
Usually the russians act that way in Estonia atleast. If someone comes to you asking for cigarette that means he might punch you in the face.
there's no russians in Croatia, not like that at least.
Should have taken their pictures with a cell phone than give that to the police, or maybe the security guys did that. This way they'll just do the same thing to someone else.

Pictures don't count as evidence here...

I am amazed that you have security. Here you are on your own, no one's gonna help, the police won't arrive for such thing unless someone dies, the ambulance will prolly comes after half an hour at best.
Shortly before I finished high school some guy from other class was ambushed like your bro. Right in the center of the city, it was 13:00 or something - bright day. The fuckers had spiked brass knuckles - removed guy's jaw and almost all his teeth, almost all organs busted. I can't believe he made it out alive. No one helped him of course.
A very good friend of mine got ambushed too because the retards mistook him for some other guy they wanted to beat up. They realized the mistake but my friend was already on the ground after multiple kicks to the head and the back. Nothing broken though. But still, my friend told me there were people literally 10 meters away and they didn't do shit.
Its survival of the fittest. You have to adapt. The public places are not very good idea most of the time, since you have so much eyes on you all the time. The side allays are better choice because you can keep an eye on all people who walk there with you so if they make a move you will see that fast you will be able run away (or at least try to do so).

it sucks when it happens, but the only thing you can do e be prepared to anything at any moment: i usually use only one plug of the headphones so i can hear everything around.
at least the guards were there... most of the place i go aren't there anywhere near.
Oh i got one too. Back when i was younger, i had a broken wrist and some gypsy scum tried to take advantage of it. I was in broad day light, very circulated street, and the guy was trying to rob me. Normally, i would've beaten him half to death, but this time i was afraid i'd break my cast. So i did what any reasonable kid would do, i asked someone for help. The guy i asked, who was about 1.80, in his mid 30s looked at us and said "You guys are just playing around" and refused to help.
Long story short, i snapped, beat the gypsy bloody with the cast until the cast broke, then looked at the passerby and said, "Does this still look like a game to you?" To which i obviously got no reply and the guy just moved along like nothing happened.

In here Finland (Helsinki), you always want to carry cigs with you, your life can depend on it Whats even more funny in here is that if you defend yourself (like something bad happens to the attacker because it happens so fast), you basically can go to jail, fuck this country.
I have this illusion that if something bad happens to anyone, not just a hot female, I'll drop everything and rush to help her: IE if someone was robbing her or whatnot.
In truth I'm not so sure what I'd do. I mean, if there's like three guys versus you as the first to help, they'd either stay to fight me or run before even more people show up.
There's the chance of getting stabbed. Those dudes carry knives. I don't have a deep wish of getting stabbed for helping a stranger. Still, there are norms that you should always help someone in need in these types of scenarios. I just think that this idea that we're all on the same team is false, in fact more and more I think we're distancing ourselves from others.
"Treating others as you want to be treated yourself": Is a nice pipe dream. It just isn't the reality.
To someone, a stranger, walking down the street you are absolutely nothing.
Suddenly when something happens, this stranger who couldn't care less before is to drop his stuff and go help you and possible get hurt or die in the worst case scenario?
There are some very interesting social studies on this topic. You can see similar stuff play out through prank videos on YouTube. Like someone acting out a pick-pocket situation or an assault and see how few actually do something.
