If you really want to progress, trading is the only way to do it, less grinding than any of the other options. Besides this is basically most polished feature in a game.

Combat - piracy can be profitable, but the interdiction by sysAuth grows old really quickly.
Bounty hunting - finding profitable targets which you can take in early levels is doable, but hard.
Mining - No tractor beam or even a cargo drone ... Scoop simulator, might as well play viscera cleanup detail.
Exploring - Only profitable on high level scanners.. Find some sand in a sandbox

I'd say the game has more worth with the upcoming planetary landing exp, hopefully, but right now all roads lead back to trading from one station to another.
Game can be enjoyable if you are more of a scenery type player, but I favor progress above all.

bounty hunting in planetary rings is quite profitable, especially if a friend stays there while you go repair/reload and keeps the ring instance running
it's unbalanced and keeps producing npcs and after a while becomes a ridiculous continuous warzone
bonuses for recovered loot

I see combat missions that give 100k for 1 target.
how hard are those?
can I take them on a pimped out eagle?

and I keep getting attacked in nav boys by auth vessels, even though I have no bounty on me Sad
they become hostile when I open fire on someone with a bounty
if they are hostile and I attack them, do I incur bounty on myself?

be sure u hit the target and not the federales, one hit of your beam on them you become their target also. its happened to me a few times.

with the 100k+ targets, i too was tempted. I found my target, it was an anaconda that demolished my cobra in about 8 seconds.

clearly not, but the topic was bountyhunting
it isn't completely worthless like mining and exploring

Not really, no.
They're Anacondas with guns up the balls.
You could maybe coop it out with a friend, taking turns. (just make sure the one with the mission makes the killing blow)
But give it a try. Smile

Are they marked as wanted in the LOCAL system?
Attacking non-local bounties is illegal.
Also, if local law enforcement is part of the same faction as common crooks, your relationship with the faction may fall from claiming bounties on them and then the local cops see you as hostile as well.

yes local system wanted
I attack them, when there's a police ship near and I don't get bounty on my head, but the police turns red and starts attacking me. If I go to another point/planet/station in the same system I'm not wanted

Sometimes if the wanted ship is the same faction as the local police, they will also turn on you. The bounty system needs some serious rework.

EVERYTHING aside from trading needs a serious overhaul.

-Super Cruise needs to be reworked to not feel like shit. This whole "hold at 6 seconds that's not really 6 seconds but more like 60" gimmick is fucking stupid and gets old quick. Ships should have a super-cruise "speed" rating and flight should be handled just like normal flight. None of this push and pull bullshit (it's not even related to gravitational pull - just dependent on what you have "locked", even USS' do it.)

-The kill warrant scanner needs to function automatically when equipped, kind of like your basic systems scanner does, or the fuel scoop. Having to hold down the button for 10 seconds while your enemy gets free shots off is beyond fucking ludicrous. It also needs to pop up the bounty somewhere visible on the cockpit and not force you to dig through sub-menus.

- USS' have no excuse to being "unidentified". We can fold fucking space time, and share data between galaxies, there's no reason I cant identify something that's more or less in front of my fucking face, relatively speaking.

-Some sort of a tractor beam accessory needs to be added and the scoop mechanic done away with. It's far too cumbersome/boring. This "feature" by itself kills both pirating and mining as viable sources of income.

-NPC Bounties need to scale to at or above either the level of the ship you're in or your net-worth (because having to wait 5 minutes every time I enter Super Cruise for a bounty over 20k to pop up is oh so fun).

-Bulletin Board Missions need to scale to at or above either the level of the ship you're in, your net-worth, or your actual standing (this one would make the most sense, but the other two shouldn't be disregarded). I'm ALLIED with both Empire and Federation and 99% of the missions I see (in both wealthy/poor and large/tiny stations ) are for less than 20k payout when all is said and done. It's pathetic. When you max rank and standing like that the missions should reflect that.

-Smuggling (and consequently heat) mechanics need to be implemented. Running straight for the airlock is not smuggling.

-Faction specific missions actually need to matter. The home/core worlds need to be fleshed out to have some benefit to actually being able to go there.

All very basic and common sense stuff that was either totally ignored or not thought through at all. Glad those worthless fucks are enjoying their vacation - they've sure "earned" it. Rolling Eyes

What's going on with this game?

Reading the Elite's official forum, it looks like game is a serious mess. Lots of bugs, people contacting lawyers to speed up getting refunds, some other folks waiting for over a month with an open ticket without a single reply, exploits with selling cargo due to server bugs, etc...

I would like to play it a lot even tho the game is kinda expensive and on top of that, by the looks of it, it is so bugged out that it's almost impossible to determine is something a bug or a game feature.

What you think of it?

Personally, I'm enjoying every minute of it, but there is no way in hell it should've been 'released' by now.

What is there, is great... But what is not there that should be is quite staggering also

On one hand, there are people who like the game quite a lot and on the other hand, there are those unfortunate ones, stucked with game breaking bugs. It's like two extremes.

I'd like to play it too, as soon as possible, since i dont like joining games later on and catching up with people but i also dont want to ruin my game experience and being put off due to unfinished and unpolished game.

I've been bookmarking threads on their forum with some interesting info about game (trading routes, some tips for newcomers like how to avoid overshooting and stuff like that) and as much as i want to start playing it right now i get to read the other threads too where people complain about almost everything. And im back to square one.

What would you recommend? Maybe wait for few more weeks or months or start playing now and (hopefully) enjoy the game as it is now while waiting for fixes?

I'm really enjoying it for what it is at the moment and hoping they implement everything else as promised.

In fairness to the devs I think it's amazingly polished compared to most releases these days, but it is a pretty empty sandbox in its current state. I haven't had a single crash and only had two disconnects so far, which is pretty good going for a new (online only) release.

To be honest, I have not really encountered many 'bugs' at all.

But I have gone into this game, seeing it as a sequel to Elite rather than Frontier/FE and if this is your mindset, I'm sure you will really enjoy it. The trading and combat in my opinion is really good fun whereas the mining is tedious, and some think the supercruise is also.

I am biased sadly, as what I have at the moment, I really enjoy.

You can in the EU, it's a protected consumer right. FDEV are just dragging their feet and trying their best to draw it out as long as possible.

You'd have to submit a ticket to their CS and wait for their reply before going forward. However, if you've put any time into playing the game then they'll likely defend themselves via the fact that you've gotten your money's worth, unless you can prove you've been sold something defective or falsely advertised (the "online only" development would only really affect the KS, which promised offline, not the store page which never did)

Basically, contact CS and cross your fingers.
