I dont understand why anyone would bother with the 1.2 patch, its not like it fixes anything .... as far as I can see its just fucking shit up.

strange...
the release from flt gave me trouble, like fucked up graphics, loading problems and multicolored lines on the screen.
i own a 6800GT like many of the guys who have problems similar as the mentioned.
then i downloaded this version: F.E.A.R.CD.VERSION-DEViANCE, and...
not a problem at all, even with the same config, play now great, and i would say that general rendering is faster than flt's. (i was able to play 1st level for 5 min before it crached)

I come bearing some decent news....... I don't know of any ill effects from this method, but at least it works.
Anyway, in your F.E.A.R directory create a dir called 'backup'. Move fear.exe and FEARE_2.Arch00 into it. (note the E after fear, I moved the wrong file and thought the fix didn't work)
Use your prior crack to play again......except this time you'll be able to use the Asylum MP level.
Word of warning, you don't seem to be able to be online at all as it'll keep giving you a cd-verification failure message, so I replaced that file with the private server hack....still no luck so I blocked it with the firewall (only internet, not local) and now it works and the Asylum level works with all it's eerie sounds and visuals.
I don't know what was in that FEARE file but everything else works fine.
Edit: BTW, on the title screen it'll say your version will be 1.01 but that's fine because you can still use the new map, and 1.02 didn't have any huge ..... actually any at all.....SP fixes.
This info comes courtesy of the GameCopyWorld Fileforums.
It works for me, it'll work for you.

So despite knowing it would run like shit on my pc, I decided I'd give this a try. Actually it was more to test my ISP's new newservice (I downloaded this puppy in 1.5 hours lol). Bragging aside, I must say this is a ver pleasing game.
Originally I had decided to not play it because I'm to paranoid to play scary games, but after watching the Ring awhile back, this whole "evil psychic girl" thing doesn't seem so scary. But the atmosphere this game produces is very awesome. I particularily enjoyed the end of Interval 2 (or around there...) I really felt like I was there, and I couldn't decide at all what was going on and what I should do. And I felt that, had this been real I would have felt the same things (Do I stay here, knowing it can't possibly be happening, or do I run like hell away from it)
And it's not so much scary as it is spooky and creepy, like some ghost tale you tell around a campfire, all culminating to the big final moment that give you a good rattle. I'm not very far in, but the story seems ok so far. They're really pushing that little girl crap though, and I'm very dissapointed she's such a Sadako rip-off. But whatever.
Technically, the game runs ok. I'm sure by most of your standards it's shit, but the detail I get is better than I expected. I am running ultra low res (640), and aside from the jaggies, the details are low/medium. No shadows though Which really sucks because they look really good. The bump mapping is laughable. I mean from a dead on view, the chipped away walls after a gunfight look cool, but as soon as you walk by them...UGH! It's like a bug mound of texture crap. I don't know if that's because my PS is set to Medium and not Max, but ugh!
The water effects are especially awesome. I find myself gawking at the water part during the Performance Test.
AI is amazing, and the gunfights really are every bit as awesome as everyone says. The levels really take advantage of this too. So many game brag how their AI will flank you, but the levels are so linear that the only way to flank you is by running right at you. At least the devs here give the AI other routes so they can sneak in behind. Which really pissed me off, lol! (Where the hell am I getting hit from? WTF how'd they get behind me?!).
So yah, better late than never, but it was worth it. Great game, and considering the year overall, I hope this one gets GotY from everyone heh!
(Bad story aside, as I hear it craps out at the end, and I've yet to try multiplayer but this game does deserve GotY if only for awesome level design and AI)
i can has computar?!

I have to say I am a bit desapointed by this game. OK, technically it is good, gunfights rock and enemies are not that dumb (nothing to jerk off really) but except that??? Level design does not change much and is very linear, there are very few weapons and enemies' types (I admit I enjoy nailing assailants on the walls). Overall I would say say it is a repetitive and pretty boring.
Still, it is worth playing only to experience the greatness of the fights when there are broken glass, smoke, grenades and bit of walls flying around. Just my opinion...
